Although Yang Xile's mother, Zhang Lu, was a mistress, she truly loved Yang's father, not just because he was worth hundreds of millions.
Yang Kai's ability to build such a successful career is undoubtedly due to his personal charisma.
Therefore, Zhang Lu admired him quite a bit, and Yang Kai made all the decisions, big and small, at home.
Zhang Lu herself is not highly educated. When she first joined Xiangyu Group, she worked as a warehouse manager in a branch company. She dealt with the goods in the warehouse all day long and rarely saw any outsiders except for her direct colleagues.
It was a stroke of luck that, because there were more men than women in the branch office, one year they couldn't find a decent female host for the annual meeting, and someone recommended her.
The person who recommended Zhang Lu once met her when picking up goods at a warehouse in the suburbs and was deeply impressed by her.
He told the manager that the warehouse manager was "very clever" and that even if she couldn't host, it didn't matter; just standing there, she could dazzle the young men in the audience.
So Zhang Lu, who was working as a warehouse manager in the suburbs, was unexpectedly and temporarily transferred to be a host.
After several busy days of rehearsals, her hosting skills were indeed very average; she could only read the connecting lines fluently from the script. But she was really beautiful, and everyone praised her after she arrived at the branch office.
The branch manager was a little confused, but before he could have any ulterior motives, Zhang Lu, a lowly warehouse clerk, met her benefactor—Yang Kai, the chairman of the group.
At the end of that year, Yang Kai led a group to visit various branch offices, similar to bringing warmth to the grassroots level, listening to the reports from the leaders of each branch office, and giving everyone some money to boost morale.
The branch company's annual meeting was originally scheduled for the weekend, outside of the inspection period. However, in an attempt to curry favor, the general manager asked the chairman if he wanted to attend their annual meeting.
Yang Kai thought to himself, "Since I'm already here, and they asked, I might as well participate. The employees are probably hoping for a red envelope from the chairman too," so he agreed.
The general manager then had the planning department rehearse a poem recitation entitled "Thank You, Company" overnight, which was added to the gala.
Although the poetry recitation was meant to express gratitude to the company, and specifically to the chairman, it didn't really move Yang Kai. What moved him was Zhang Lu, the host at the gala who simply read from the script.
However, Yang Kai was a seasoned veteran and not a lecher. He praised the branch office for its outstanding people and beautiful young women, but made no further moves.
After returning home, Yang Kai got busy with work and forgot about the incident. It wasn't until more than half a year later, when the company needed to hire an external host for an event, that he remembered the girl.
Of course, her hosting skills and professional level were not enough to handle the large-scale events, so Yang Kai asked the external publicity department to contact the best host of the local TV station, and at the same time asked someone to inquire about Zhang Lu's situation in the branch office.
He thought to himself that more than half a year had passed, and given how frequently young people change jobs these days, that girl might not even be working at the company anymore.
Unexpectedly, after the assistant made a phone call, the branch manager said that Zhang Lu's work performance was excellent, and she was even given training and promoted from warehouse keeper to quality inspector. The girl was also working very diligently.
Yang Kai thought this sounded good; at least she seemed like a sensible and reliable girl.
The branch office leadership quickly sent her over, citing the reason that she was to be sent to the head office for further training.
Although Zhang Lu doesn't have a high level of education, she's not stupid. With her qualifications and abilities, how could she possibly get such a cushy job as training at the head office in a branch company full of talented people?
After thinking it over, she guessed about 70-80% of what was going on, so she came to the head office without saying anything.
The rest is pretty predictable: the two, who were about twenty years apart in age, quickly fell in love at first sight and became inseparable. It wasn't until Zhang Lu became pregnant with Yang Xile that Yang Kai began to take the matter seriously.
Of course, money can solve this thorny problem. With his wealth, it would be easy for him to have the child born or have it aborted.
She could choose to give birth either domestically or abroad, and Zhang Lu certainly wanted to "become a full-fledged" mother more than anyone else. However, she knew that she had no say in this matter and that everything depended on Yang Kai's decision.
He already had three children at that time, which was a serious violation of the one-child policy in effect at the time.
However, because the three children were not from the same mother, and because he had a strong network of connections, he managed to create a seemingly legitimate reason to have more children than allowed.
Zhang Lu was completely unsure whether her fourth child meant anything to Yang Kai, or whether he had any feelings for the child.
Yang Xile may have been born with good fortune. Just when the two adults were hesitating, he seemed to sense that he was not welcome and suddenly started to throw a tantrum in his mother's belly.
Zhang Lu, a new mother, panicked and called Yang Kai, who was preparing to go on a business trip to Busan, South Korea, for help.
Yang Kai was already on his way to the airport when he received Zhang Lu's tearful call for help. He suddenly felt a pang of anxiety and also felt sorry for the girl who had been following him anonymously and the child in her womb.
So, while on the phone, he asked Zhang Lu to call an ambulance to go to the hospital first, and at the same time, he told the driver to turn around and his assistant to inform the Korean side that they would be a day late.
When Yang Kai called again, it wasn't Zhang Lu who answered, but the intern doctor in the ambulance.
The doctor said the patient was bleeding and had fallen into a coma. He told the doctor that he would take the patient to the nearest hospital and provided the hospital's name and address, asking the doctor, as a family member, to go there as soon as possible.
When Yang Kai arrived at the hospital, Zhang Lu was still in the operating room.
He paced anxiously outside, and at that moment, he made up his mind: if this child could be saved, he would definitely let him grow up healthy.
