Just before the two were about to book their tickets back to China, Yang Xile contacted Lin Xiao.
He got straight to the point on the phone, asking her if she had a new handsome boyfriend.
Lin Xiao was taken aback by his direct question. She and Wei Changfeng had kept a low profile during their trip to Paris, so Yang Xile probably hadn't seen them. Perhaps the French restaurant manager had been too talkative last time.
There was no point in hiding it, so Lin Xiao told him directly that she was indeed with her boyfriend, but not someone she had recently started dating; they had always been in a long-distance relationship.
Yang Xile was silent for a moment on the other end of the phone, then said cheerfully, "Sis, you're so stingy! He's all in Paris, and you won't even let me meet my handsome brother-in-law! I'll treat you to dinner!"
Although Lin Xiao was simple-minded, she was not oblivious. From observing Yang Xile's behavior in their daily interactions, she realized that the child might have developed feelings for her that went beyond those between siblings.
At first, when Yang Xile jokingly said that their two families were forming a powerful alliance through marriage, Lin Xiao thought he was just joking. But last time at her house, when he suddenly held her hand, Lin Xiao began to feel that something was not right.
Although her reaction that time was a bit excessive, Yang Xile was also sensible enough to find a way to back down. However, Lin Xiao kept this little incident in mind and didn't want the child to misunderstand anything again.
The reason she had never talked to anyone about her relationship with Wei Changfeng was because she had many concerns.
Firstly, the two were thousands of miles apart at the time, and only communicated by phone and WeChat. This vague and ethereal relationship made her feel that it could disappear at any moment.
Secondly, because of Wei Changfeng's identity, if others knew she was in a relationship, their first concern would be who she was with. She couldn't keep it a secret from those around her forever, so it was better to say nothing at all.
However, it seems that the time has come to say something that must be said, but it must be done in a way that does not hurt Yang Xile or embarrass him.
Lin Xiao told him that he and this friend had known each other for a long time. Because they lived in different places, and his work was very busy and his studies were also quite demanding, they had only kept in touch by phone or online before, but their relationship had always been very good.
"Whose son is he? Do I know him?" Yang Xile asked.
Hearing his words, Lin Xiao knew that Yang Xile naturally assumed that Lin Xiao's boyfriend was from their circle of rich second-generation heirs, a scion of some wealthy family, but at least in terms of family background, he should be someone whose family was on par with the Lin family.
Considering Wei Changfeng's status as an artist, Lin Xiao did not want to reveal his name to Yang Xile, only saying, "His family is ordinary; his parents seem to be teachers, not in our industry."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, and then Yang Xile said, "Oh, they come from a scholarly family. They are indeed different from us."
After saying that, he hung up the phone without saying anything more.
Lin Xiao felt a little lost, wondering if she had hurt him, and whether she should have told Yang Xile that she had someone she loved from the moment she reconnected with Wei Changfeng.
After hanging up Lin Xiao's call, Yang Xile stood blankly in front of the floor-to-ceiling window for a long while.
He was surrounded by beautiful women, and there was never a shortage of girls throwing themselves at him, so he didn't take these romantic relationships too seriously.
He was sent to the United States by his father when he was a teenager, and he was very precocious and open-minded about relationships.
For some reason, he always felt a sense of security when he was with Lin Xiao, especially when she took care of everyone so considerately, called him "little brother" affectionately, and treated Yu Qingning like a younger sister. All of this made him want to stay by her side forever.
Among the girls he knew, Lin Xiao was not bad in appearance and figure, but she was not the most beautiful. However, she was the most sensible and gentle among these rich kids.
Perhaps it was this feeling that made him gradually develop a dependence on Lin Xiao. At first, he thought he was treating her as an older sister, but later he realized that he was just deceiving himself.
You wouldn't imagine having intimate physical contact with a sister who isn't related to you by blood, even just touching her hair would make your heart race. But Lin Xiao was always both gentle and aloof, never responding to an inappropriate remark, letting himself know when to stop.
Having wandered from place to place since his teens, from the United States to the United Kingdom to France, Yang Xile had long been accustomed to this kind of life, but Lin Xiao's appearance made him want to settle down in one place for the first time.
He knew that almost no one in this circle could match his wealth, and he also knew that Lin Xiao had always treated him like a younger brother, but he thought it was not too late.
He was extremely perceptive, and his previous initiative to contact Lin's father was also laying the groundwork for the future. He could tell that Lin Haitao greatly admired him, and even more so, he made no secret of his high regard for Lin's father.
This was a businessman's natural admiration and goodwill stemming from profit, and he thus knew his importance in Lin's father's heart.
He planned to proceed gradually and methodically. Lin Xiao was a slow-paced person, but she was also a person with her own opinions. She might only take her father's words as a reference, but he couldn't influence her decisions. Therefore, he had to truly win her favor.
He's only 21 years old this year, and he's still two months away from his 22nd birthday. Lin Xiao is only two years older than him; their future is very long.
Until he heard through the grapevine that Lin Xiao had a boyfriend, a guy who had appeared out of nowhere.
He could no longer contain himself and called her directly to verify.
