Chapter 5
Old Mrs. Wang frowned, put down her bowl, put on her shoes, and went out to greet him. She saw her second son sitting at her doorstep, slapping his thigh and wailing like a beggar.
"Wang Ying, what are you doing!"
"Mother, the Chen family is bullying me so much! They don't treat me like a human being at all! I can't live like this anymore!" His cries were so loud that they attracted the attention of the neighbors.
Someone asked curiously, "Wang Ying, what's wrong with you?"
"I only ate a few extra bites of food this morning, and my mother-in-law grabbed my hair and slapped me four or five times. Look, my face is still swollen." Wang Ying stuck his tongue out at his cheek for people to see. His face was covered in mud, so it was hard to see clearly, and the bystanders were just watching the spectacle and making a fuss.
"Hey, how can you bully people like this?"
Old Mrs. Wang said with a stern face, "Go inside quickly. What kind of behavior is it to cry and whine at the door?" Judging from the Chen family's behavior at the wedding yesterday, she originally thought they could become in-laws, but now she has given up on that idea.
Wang Ying remained unmoved and continued to sit on the ground, sobbing, "That eldest son of the Chen family doesn't look like he'll live much longer. He got married yesterday but didn't even get to consummate the marriage. If he dies, my mother-in-law will make me a widow. What am I going to do?"
"What can I do? A married man is like water spilled from a bowl; he has no choice but to listen to his wife."
"Mother, please return the money to them. I don't want to get married anymore~~~" Wang Ying cried his heart out. He knew the original owner's parents' character and that they would never return the money to the Chen family. The reason he did this today was to stop these people from trying to take advantage of him.
Old Mrs. Wang gritted her teeth, stepped forward, and pulled him up. She whispered in his ear, "Get inside right now, or I'll skin you alive!"
Wang Ying trembled with fear. This was not an act, but a stress response from his body. His mother had beaten him too badly before, and even with a new soul, he still felt terrified upon hearing these words.
In the past, Wang Ying would have obediently followed her into the house, but now a different person lives inside her body, no longer the timid and cowardly little Wang Ying.
Wang Ying raised her voice, "We were born of the same mother, so why do you favor your older and younger brothers, but hate me so much? Did you find me adopted?"
This was the question he wanted to ask on behalf of Xiao Wangying. They were clearly siblings from the same mother, so why was there such favoritism just because they were different genders? It was truly unacceptable.
Speaking of this, Old Lady Wang suddenly got angry, "Pah! You were born to bring me bad luck. I was kind enough to raise you. If I had known you were so useless, I should have drowned you in the chamber pot back then!"
This story begins when Old Lady Wang was pregnant with Wang Ying. One day, an old Taoist priest came to the village and asked to borrow a ladle of water when he passed by Wang's house. However, Wang was a woman with a sharp tongue and a black heart. Not only did she refuse to lend him water, she also cursed the old Taoist priest as a fraud.
The old Taoist priest was furious. He pointed at her nose and cursed, "You shrew, you're carrying a male-female bastard in your belly. It will surely bring you death!"
Wang was so angry that she chased him away with a broom, but the old Taoist's words left a knot in her heart.
Unfortunately, she had a difficult labor that day, and it took her a whole day and night to give birth to little Wang Ying. The midwife took one look and said, "It's a boy."
Wang was so angry she almost died. If it weren't for the old lady of the Wang family being alive at the time, Wang Ying might have drowned right after he was born.
Unfortunately, after the old lady passed away, no one could take care of Xiao Wangying anymore. Her father didn't love her and her mother didn't care for her, and she suffered a lot in this family over the years.
Having learned the cause and effect, his trembling body gradually calmed down, and at this moment, Xiao Wangying probably truly died.
A sense of emptiness washed over her, and Wang Ying suddenly remembered her parents from her previous life. Although they were not as ruthless as Wang's parents, how were they any different?
They gave birth to him but didn't raise him, leaving him with his elderly grandparents, failing to fulfill any of their responsibilities as parents.
I remember one summer vacation, my grandmother sent him to my father's place in an attempt to ease the tension between them.
When she arrived, she discovered that he already had a new family and new children. Seeing the happy family together, Wang Ying felt like an outsider.
He wanted to call out "Dad" but couldn't open his mouth, and was even complained that he was becoming more and more immature as he grew older.
He was sent back home after only three days at his father's house because his younger brother tore up his homework, and he yelled at his brother.
Since then, he has never been to his parents' side again. All the past events flashed before his eyes. He thought he had let go of the past, but now that he was being treated like this again, the long-dormant resentment instantly erupted.
He said angrily, "One sentence from the old Taoist priest made you treat your own son as an enemy. Since you don't treat me as your son, why should I treat you as my mother!"
"Since all the uncles and aunts are here today, let's all be the judge and see if I'm heartless or if they've gone too far!"
“I’ve been cooking for this family since I was six years old. Back then, I wasn’t even as tall as the stove. I had to stand on a stool to barely reach the pot.”
Once, I accidentally burned my hand. Instead of showing any concern, she scolded me for being useless and didn't give me anything to eat for three days. I was so hungry I had to eat grass leaves.
“I started working in the fields when I was eight years old. My parents treated me like livestock. They wouldn’t even give me a sip of water in the scorching sun. I fainted on the edge of the field, and it was my uncle who saw me and carried me back.”
Wang Erhai, who was standing by watching the commotion, nodded repeatedly upon hearing this, "That's true, poor Yingzi."
“In winter, my older brother and younger brother both had cotton-padded coats to wear, but I didn’t even have a thick coat. I could only squat by the stove to keep warm, and my hands and feet were so cold that they oozed pus and were in excruciating pain.” Wang Ying recounted the events that happened in her memory one by one, leaving the neighbors shaking their heads in astonishment.
"What kind of parents are these?"
"Exactly! Even tigers don't eat their cubs. This is worse than an animal!"
No matter what, this is still my own child, why treat him like this?
As they were talking, Wang Laoshuan and his eldest son returned from the fields. Hearing the neighbors' chatter, the two men blushed and couldn't lift their heads.
Seeing that everyone had arrived, Wang Ying continued, "I know you can't come up with the money, and this family can't tolerate me, so let's just cut ties cleanly today."
Wang asked angrily, "What exactly do you want to do?"
"Everyone, please help me be a witness. Let's go to the village head and draw up a contract. From today onwards, I, Wang Ying, have absolutely no relation to your family. We will never have any contact again, whether it's for life, old age, sickness, or death!"
Old Mrs. Wang spat, "If you want to stand up, then stand up. Without your maternal family to rely on, let's see how long you can hop around in your husband's family!"
Wang Ying sneered, "Even if it's not good, it's still better than dying in the cold river."
Having said that, the bond of blood ties is now completely severed.
The Wang family discussed it and decided that it was good to have a written agreement. From now on, Wang Ying would have nothing to do with their family. If Chen's eldest son died, they would have no chance to get their money back.
The group walked towards the village head's house. After explaining their purpose, the village head offered a few words of advice. Seeing that there was no room for reconciliation, he helped them write a letter of severance.
Wang Ying carefully examined it and, after confirming that it was correct, pressed his fingerprint on it. From now on, he would have no further connection with the Wang family, and even if he took the matter to the authorities, it would be useless.
As I came out of the village head's house, I happened to run into Uncle Chen driving his mule cart.
Uncle Chen waited outside the village for a long time but Wang Ying didn't return, so he got worried and drove up to meet her.
Seeing that his hair was disheveled and his clothes were dirty, she quickly stepped forward and asked, "Young master, what happened?"
"It's alright, let's go." With that, he boarded the mule cart and drove off amidst the astonished gazes of the crowd.

Sitting on the mule cart, Wang Ying took out the contract and read it carefully twice, becoming happier with each reading.
I didn't expect to sever ties with the Wang family so easily. I thought I would have to deal with them for a while longer. It seems my acting skills are superb!
Uncle Chen, driving the cart, glanced at him discreetly and couldn't help but ask, "Young master, what happened? Why are you in such a sorry state?"
"Hey, it's a long story." Wang Ying lifted her clothes and sat in front of him, rambling on about the original owner's background.
Despite his extensive experience, Uncle Chen was still quite shocked by Wang Ying's plight, and his gaze towards her was filled with pity.
Uncle Chen also has two sons who are married off. In his eyes, whether they are sons or daughters, they are all his children. How can he treat them differently?
When you get back, you must tell the young master to treat him well in the future.
By the time Wang Ying rushed back to town from the village, it was already late. Having missed lunch, she was starving.
As soon as he entered the courtyard, the old woman next to Li came over and called him to the main room for dinner.
"I'll go back and change my clothes first, then I'll be there in a bit."
The old woman looked Wang Ying up and down, then nodded with a puzzled expression.
Back in the bedroom, Chen Qingyan was still lying on the bed, half-dead. She glanced at him and continued reading the book in her hands.
Wang Ying rummaged through the bundle she had brought. She was still wearing the clothes she had worn on her wedding day yesterday. She had brought a set of old clothes with her when she came, and she planned to change out and wash them.
After searching for a long time, I still couldn't find my little bag. "Hey, have you seen my things?"
"What is that?"
"It's the small package I picked up yesterday; it contains my clothes."
“I let Uncle Chen lose it.”
"Lost?! Those were my only two pieces of clothing!"
Chen Qingyan awkwardly touched his nose, thinking it was a rag. "There are some new clothes in the closet that I haven't worn yet. Pick one and wear it."
Upon hearing this, Wang Ying immediately calmed down, smiled, and cupped her hands in thanks, saying, "Thank you, husband."
Chen Qingyan blushed deeply at being called "husband," snorted, and quickly buried her head in her book, but her eyes couldn't help but drift towards Wang Ying.
His clothes were dirty, his hair was messy, and his eyes were red and swollen as if he had been crying. Did he suffer some injustice at home?
We'll have to ask Uncle Chen what happened later.
Just as I was thinking this, I saw Wang Ying take off her outer clothes, inner shirt, and even her underpants...
"Stop! What are you doing?"
Wang Ying pulled at a navy blue robe and held it up against herself. "Didn't you say I could pick whatever I wanted? How about this one? Does it look good?"
"This is outrageous! You, you'd better put your clothes on right now!"
Wang Ying lowered her head and pinched her pectoral muscles, saying, "Ours are the same, what's there to be shy about?"
"Get out of here!"
