Chapter 17
He Songyou was drunk and lay unconscious on the table.
One o'clock in the morning.
The music in the dance hall gradually became soothing and ambiguous, the lights dimmed, and shadows intertwined.
You look at the dance floor, feeling a bit sleepy because you've had too much to drink and been fooling around with He Songyou for so long.
Camel and you watched the swaying figures on the dance floor together: "Ah Fei, live for today, worry about tomorrow later, don't think about it."
Camel is the quieter one among you, somewhat sullen. He recently experienced a failed relationship. You exchange a glance, understanding each other perfectly, and silently raise your glasses, gently clinking them together in the dim light.
In such a lively setting, two disillusioned individuals lazily smoked cigarettes, their hearts tormented by their shared plight, yet constrained by their adult status, they could only swallow their bitterness alone.
"Songyou was joking. We both hope that you don't go astray and that you'll find someone to settle down with."
"I know."
Camel, with a cigarette between his fingers, exhaled a puff of smoke and paused: "Although, sometimes I feel scared, wondering if I'll be all alone in the future, with no one to accompany me when I'm old, never to meet a suitable person again, with no one to care for me when I'm sick, and with no money, still paying off my mortgage, and being just average-looking."
You lean back in your chair and chuckle: "I'm gay, and I've never thought about it that way."
The camel chuckled: "You're comparing this to me."
You didn't see anything wrong with it: "What's wrong with that? We're all the same, whether it's our bodies or our hearts."
The camel was speechless, staring into the air, and sighed, "I'm hungry. Drinking isn't enough to fill me up. Would you like some skewers?"
You haven't had barbecue skewers for two or three years. Since your job got on track, you've been working non-stop for two and a half years, spending most of your time on airplanes and in training courses.
What should we do about Songyou?
The camel stood up: "Let's carry it together. By the time we get there, the effects of the alcohol will have worn off."
You and the camel were helping the river pine tree up when, just then, the musicians took a break, and there was a brief pause in the music. Before leaving the bar, you felt a gaze out of the corner of your eye and looked in that direction.
A young man sat at the bar directly opposite the entrance. His long neck was visible through his white shirt. He held a glass and wore a sturdy, dark green brass bracelet on his right wrist, which made his wrist look beautiful. His fingers were long and slender.
The light was dim, and you couldn't see his face clearly; you only saw him raise his hand and wave at you.
Sitting next to him was a group of energetic young men, who seemed to come from well-off families. They followed the man's gaze and began whispering among themselves.
At that time, you didn't think much of it. You just felt your phone vibrate, but your mind wasn't on it, so you didn't pay much attention and quickly left with He Songyou.
...
After that day, you said goodbye to He Songyou and the camel, and went to the neighboring city alone.
You opened a new training institution there and bought a new house for easier commuting.
Because of your senior's situation, you haven't been checking WeChat much, nor have you checked whether he has deleted you. Only after things finally settled down, your tasks were completed, and your work got back on track did you have time to log into your personal WeChat account.
I registered this account when I was in college. Not many people know about it, and there are very few people on my contact list. So it's quite abrupt that a friend suddenly added me.
You had already swiped past it casually, but when you saw the verification message, you suddenly paused.

His head is a dark green bronze bracelet with a kui dragon pattern, worn on his wrist, with his five fingers outstretched upwards, against a backdrop of snow and ice, and large areas of rime ice.
