Chapter 99
It happened very suddenly.
After Toto returned home from his date, he found a cargo hovercar with military markings parked in front of his house.
The female insect soldiers in military uniforms sealed the boxes, which were filled to the brim: rum, clothes, documents, boxes containing expensive jewelry, some wooden sculptures, and a large, exaggerated, one-piece meteorite bookshelf. The soldiers struggled to lift the boxes onto the hovercar. Toto noticed a box being packed, with the new uniform pressed against it, and a hem of a nightgown underneath.
"Your Excellency, Imperial Guard."
The sound suddenly rang out.
The female soldier, who was smoking by the car door, was startled. She composed herself, but for some reason couldn't manage a smile. She flicked her cigarette butt awkwardly and asked, "Toto, uh... you're back already? You're back so quickly?"
"quick?"
Torregia frowned, seemingly dissatisfied with the answer. After a moment of silence, he said, "I just went to have a meal. Mr. Lin Mi brought me back after I finished eating."
He wanted to know what had happened and why the soldiers were moving things from his house, but as an adult, he had worked with professors in the lab and was quite familiar with federal security measures.
The female soldiers in blue and white uniforms came from a special, secret service unit and often brought things to the professor, so Toto didn't ask.
But he still took those things out one by one, and he noticed that his own things were not in the box.
He lowered his head, glanced at the female soldiers carrying things, and felt his good mood vanish. He took off his coat, puzzled: "What are they doing?"
"Oh, it's nothing, just a small matter, it'll be quick."
The guard awkwardly evaded the topic of Toto, his vague tone suggesting that something truly unspeakable had happened.
Could it be related to the previous case of framing the commander and sending him to prison?
Is Commander at home?
"Uh...maybe he's not here..."
These words had no effect. While he was speaking vaguely, the young male insect strode into the room. He walked too fast and did not see the guard exhaling smoke, his expression saying that this was all he could do to help.
The guard officer was keen to see his superior make a fool of himself, but he was reluctant to bear the wrath of the lord.
Excuse me.
"Be careful not to get bumped!"
Torregia dodged the large boxes coming towards him. Many things were missing from the house, but in addition to the items that had been moved out, some furniture, handicrafts, and decorations had also been brought in.
The soldier with the dust collector was working meticulously, but Toto was not in a good mood. He walked to the gentleman's study and rudely pushed the door open.
The female soldier was indeed inside. She was wearing a coat, but she had just received a video call from the terminal when she was about to put it on, so she was only wearing one sleeve. She was talking on the phone while writing something on the table.
Toto didn't speak, but the female insect seemed to sense it. He raised his head, looked at Toregia for a moment, gently looked away, whispered a few words in his ear, and then hung up the video call.
Toto's tone was calm, revealing neither joy nor anger. He asked, "Are you moving out, sir?"
Fei glanced at him but didn't answer immediately. He put on his coat and walked up to Torregia. Torregia noticed that he was also wearing gloves, as if he was about to go on a long trip.
Fei didn't explain, but instead asked him in a low voice, "Did you enjoy meeting Lin Mi today?"
Are you happy?
"Be happy," Lin Mi said, but Toregia felt very relaxed. Anyway, his requests were rarely answered by his family. He had originally planned to share his happiness with you. He wanted to tell you that he was able to build a family and that his broken, repressed, and untrustworthy understanding of family had been corrected.
He can live a normal life instead of completely losing a certain ability.
It wasn't that he wasn't panicked; why was it that while other Zerg were discussing the opposite sex, he had no interest in the Zerg around him?
I find it too noisy, too boring, and too hypocritical.
I don't want to love them, and I'm unwilling to understand them.
But he couldn't keep making the Zerg he cared about worry like this, so he convinced himself to give it a try. Meeting Lin Mi was truly a joyful thing, and Toto liked him very much.
He wanted to tell you that the other party was excellent and a very reliable female insect, but since you were leaving, Torregia felt a fist stuck in his throat and couldn't say a word.
He realized this wasn't good, so he nodded and said, "Yes, I'm very happy and had a pleasant day."
Upon hearing Toto's reply, Fei lowered his eyelids, his long eyelashes resembling a butterfly with curled wings. The starlight cast a cool, detached edge on his refined face, making him look like a pensive, emotionless philosopher. He seemed to take a soft breath, or perhaps sigh.
It wasn't that he couldn't feel anger or jealousy; he felt his heart fall into an empty abyss, his nerves trembling and shouting rude words.
He wanted to hug him, kiss him, wrap him in his uniform, and tell him it was best not to go anywhere.
But Torregia was becoming happy, and Fei couldn't bear to disturb him.
The two Zerglings were silent for a moment. The female warrior smiled and said, "Tregear, I'm only leaving for work. If anything happens that can't be resolved, you still need to contact me, remember?"
He said this, patted Toregia on the shoulder, and left him step by step as if it were the first time he had come.
Toto turned around abruptly. He couldn't see the expression on his own face, but he could feel himself clenching his fists.
But it doesn't really matter.
It doesn't matter.
Actually, nothing happened.
Why is my heart beating so fast? Why does it feel like something is trying to burst out of my throat? What is that? Is it a pointless, weak, immature attempt to hold on?
Then let him go, then don't move, let that feeling fade away on its own. Didn't you know from the beginning that Commander wouldn't stay here forever?
If you're used to unanswered requests and to handling all your reactions alone, then don't say that you've been getting better at doing things this way since you were a child.
After the last item was packed into the box.
The Imperial Guard officer, unable to conceal his pale complexion, repeatedly made excuses, attempting to stall for time: "Your Excellency, have you forgotten something?"
Fei replied calmly and politely, "No."
"Hey, it's almost time! It'll be more auspicious to set off on time!"
Fei glanced at the guard officer.
The guard officer slammed the car door shut and activated autopilot: "Of course, those are backward customs from distant planets, hehe, hehe."
The commander moved his residence back to the unit.
His Excellency the Imperial Guard began a life of relentless overtime work.
Torregia lives alone.
Two weeks later, he returned to Professor Arnold's laboratory.
The world has not changed.
I think so.
Torregia starts dating Lin Mi.
Lin Mi was a man of few words, and he often smelled of gunpowder. When Toto asked him a question, Lin Mi did not answer, but instead took Toto directly to his workplace.
The car took a roundabout route, eventually turning into the Neon Building, where we took a flying car to the designated floor.
Lin Mi showed him an exceptionally exquisite exoskeleton armor locked inside a protective shield, along with various tools for maintaining the armor, all tucked away in a pile of bottles and jars, and the faint smell of gunpowder.
On the way back, Lin Mi sat by the window, shielding him from the glaring sunlight. The light was blinding, and Lin Mi squinted slightly, as if he were basking in the sun.
His palms were rough and covered in scars. Toto touched them, and Lin Mi looked back with a puzzled expression. Toto immediately closed his eyes and pretended to sleep. After a while, he felt a heavy and warm hand grip Toto's wrist, as if reminding him of something.
Toto opened his eyes.
A small rainbow hung in the sky, but disappeared in just over ten seconds.
Toto felt that Lin Mi was like an old cat that had been petted, neither angry nor irritable, but instead showing her soft belly and lying flat to be petted.
This kind of life should be very happy.
Lin Mi maintained a friendly relationship with him and introduced Toto to his friends.
However, due to the difference in genetic aptitude, Toto and Lin Mi did not establish a formal relationship. After the professor learned about this, he told him not to rush, as if he had some plans.
Toto wasn't in a hurry; in fact, he just felt very relaxed being with Lin Mi.
As they met more often, Lin Mi's friends gradually came into contact with Toto.
Lin Mi's military branch requires high genetic qualifications, so most of his good friends are also gold medalists. To be able to operate exoskeleton armor, they must have a certain family background and ability. Therefore, in their eyes, a low-ranking Tregear is just an ordinary person.
However, because of Lin Mi, he was very polite to Toto and would not behave rudely.
Lin Mi still didn't say much, and he remained silent most of the time.
Toto later discovered that Lin Mi was not like his other teammates, who trained in the exoskeleton armor every day. He just maintained it regularly and would occasionally stare at it blankly, looking like he was in a bad mood. At these times, he would send Toto home and not stay with him.
Toto didn't ask why, maintaining a polite distance.
Because they meet so frequently, there have been many rumors speculating that they are about to get married.
Toto herself doesn't care about these things, but for a female insect that hasn't found a mate, it can create a negative impression and easily spread as rumors of promiscuity and transgression.
However, they couldn't reduce the frequency of their meetings, so Lin Mi was very insistent on them meeting.
If you think about it that way, it would be better to just confirm that you're in a relationship, which would be better for both of you.
Lin Mi probably likes me.
After confirming this, I asked Lin Mi's friends. Because Lin Mi doesn't talk much, she doesn't reveal many of her preferences. I wanted to solidify our relationship, so I prepared carefully.
Toto invited the other person to a restaurant. His hot-tempered friend came over with a look of impatience. After listening to Toto's explanation, he looked at Toto with a "Are you kidding me?" expression, a mixture of helplessness and mockery, and turned green with embarrassment.
Although he didn't get any answers, Toto wasn't angry. After thanking them, he prepared to pay the bill and leave.
This polite attitude softened the other person's expression slightly. They stirred their cold drink haphazardly and said, "Hey, you'd better not do this kind of thing."
Toto turned around: "What?"
Military Female: "Tsk, you don't really think that guy can't talk, do you? He's not talking because... he's been stimulated. You have some self-awareness. You only have one Green Medal. If you really get married, you'll have to go through a lot of trouble to find a new partner after you die. It's better to be casual than to go through all that trouble. Anyway, Lin Mi probably doesn't care about his reputation."
The words were vague and ambiguous, but Toto wasn't the type to run away from things or bury his head in the sand like an ostrich until things came to a head.
He called the guard officer directly, hoping he could help investigate and find out the truth of the matter. He also saw the photo of Lin Mi's sacrificed partner, who did indeed resemble him. He found Lin Mi to confirm whether it was true, and then they readily agreed not to meet again.
When I got home, I hadn't eaten because I was busy with this, so I asked Merck to prepare dinner for me.
For some reason, he suddenly said, "Please give me some wine."
Toto didn't feel that bad, but sitting silently in the corner of the sofa, staring blankly out the window, didn't look very healthy.
As I was looking out the window, I suddenly spotted a hovercar illegally driving on the hoverway.
It stopped at the entrance.
The car door opened. Oh, it's Commander.
