Chapter 67
The command center was completely silent.
The aloof officers seated at both ends cast sharp, scrutinizing gazes at the newly adult Zerg, suspicion lingering in the minds of the female officers.
After a soft whisper, one of the higher-ranking female soldiers stood up, glanced at the commander, and when the commander did not respond, he gestured for the guards officer to take the young man away.
The guard officer realized the abruptness and presumption of his action, awkwardly touched his nose, and prepared to take the young Zerg man to relieve himself, but was interrupted by the commander.
"Bring him here."
The female soldiers, who had been turning their gazes toward the Emperor Star, all turned back to stare at the young man standing in the middle, as if they were looking at some newly discovered strange creature, scrutinizing him from head to toe.
Black hair.
Dark gray eyes.
Low-level Zerg.
Compared to those straightforward judgments that mark a piece of meat, Fei's gaze was devoid of value; he was observing the child's emotions.
Oh, perhaps we can no longer call them children.
He had grown taller and bigger; his deep gray eyes were clear and bright, like a glass ball, without any dullness.
He looked at Fei, wanting to approach but not getting close. Perhaps he didn't know how to start a conversation, how to face the adult insectoid form. Perhaps the doctor hadn't had a chance to tell him yet, so he just stood there.
Fei remembered the grand celebrations that came from all directions when his younger brother came of age.
Lanna himself didn't have to face anything. He lived like in a fairy tale, simply lying in soft blankets, following professional guidance, and gradually becoming familiar with his newborn body.
There were no congratulations when Fei came of age; after signing the volunteer form, he immediately went to the battlefield.
During that battle, he happened to catch a glimpse of a starship exploding in a rain of blood, which looked like a huge, silvery-white firework, welcoming him away from his youth and into the cold, adult world of the Zerg.
Alone, carrying his weapon, he looked back at the magnificent and prosperous imperial star.
He never forgot that glance.
"Come here."
Fei repeated it again, in a normal tone.
The young male insect slowly walked towards him, his indoor slippers making a soft, slight squeaking sound as they stepped on the blue carpet.
Fei waved his hand, and the officer who wanted to stand up sat back down. The atmosphere relaxed again. The female soldiers looked at Xingyun, whom they hadn't seen for a long time, and were all a little excited. They hadn't been home for almost three years.
Fei smiled slightly, her expression relaxed: "Are you getting used to it?"
Seeing the young male insect looking over with a puzzled expression, he glanced at him up and down. The male insect knew what Fei was asking. He raised his hand, clenched his fist, and his voice changed from a clear, youthful tone to a low, listless one.
"Yes."
He looked down at his palm, his words hesitant and soft due to his deep voice, which reminded Fei of his younger self, a thin, round face overlapping with a handsome young man.
"Is it far from here to my tent?"
"It's very far, requiring military space jumps, and it would take civilian starships two years to reach."
Toto fell silent. Fei waited a moment and then asked, "Do you want to live with me?"
"have no idea."
Fei remained silent for a while, then kindly reminded him: "No insectoid told you that the Imperial Star is different from the place you used to live. Here, I can do many things to ensure you have enough to eat and wear. I promised your father that."
"Is it because of my female father that he takes care of me?"
The young male insect turned his gaze away. Fei wasn't quite sure what the look in his eyes meant. He lacked experience in communicating with males of this age, so he nodded, leaned back in his chair, and tapped his fingers lightly on the edge of the table.
"The name Toto is too colloquial. If you want to live on the Imperial Star, it would be more appropriate to change your name."
I will take you to school.
As if to emphasize the certainty in his words, Fei stood up and stood side by side with Toto: "Let's go to the best school on the Imperial Star."
Meanwhile, the Madison family...
Mr. Madison, who had just returned from the club, saw his angry male mate and his fierce-looking youngest son cleaning his guns.
What happened?
Mr. Madison opened his arms and hugged his husband. He looked at his youngest son, the female insect, his stern face deeply wrinkled, and subconsciously scolded, "Christie Madison, tell me, what makes your father so sad? Damn it, you only know how to hurt your own family."
Christie was furious and gloomy. He stood up abruptly, but the male insect stopped him from arguing with the female father. He said with disgust, "It has nothing to do with Christie. It's that little bastard. Ha, at the party today, some insects actually congratulated me on becoming a grandfather."
"I originally thought it was that bastard Chris who caused the trouble, but I didn't expect it was that little bastard who was brought to the Imperial Star by the insects. Who is his grandfather? This is outrageous! I was so angry that I almost tore that guy's mouth apart!"
"he?"
Congressman Madison frowned, a thoughtful look on his face. He had arranged everything in secret, and now that things had gone wrong, he was understandably surprised: "Who brought him back?"
The male insect flew into a rage: "You actually care more about this? You should know that the Madison family's reputation will be ridiculed because of the existence of this bastard!"
Christie added fuel to the fire: "Don't worry, Father, I'll make him disappear from the Imperial Star without a sound."
Mr. Madison remained calm throughout. He elegantly lit his pipe, pondered for a moment, and gave Christie a cold look: "You better keep your mouth shut and don't let your brother Norang know."
Christie scoffed and fell silent.
