Chapter 30: A Superfluous Move
Sikong Tan followed Lin Guantang's gaze and seemed a little surprised when he saw the figure with long silver-white hair.
"Huo Shizhen? Why is he here at this time?"
Then, he chuckled with some understanding:
"It seems I can't resist my curiosity and want to watch closely how you complete your mission, Xiao Haitang."
Lin Guantang was still in a daze. He was startled when he heard the words. He quickly looked back at him. Then he remembered that he still had to hide his identity. So he lowered his voice and asked with some reluctance to believe:
"Is it really Senior Huo? Could it be that he, he also listened in on my mission just now?"
Sikong Tan blinked and said slowly:
"After all, I did provide some help with your equipment today, so it shouldn't be too much to ask for an audience on your mission process."
It’s not excessive, but it’s very shameful!
Lin Guantang no longer wanted to recall what had happened in the past ten minutes, and even wanted Senior Sikong to forget this memory. But then Senior Huo showed up... Wait, there couldn't be other people who had overheard his embarrassing scene.
Lin Guantang just thought about that scene briefly, and an endless feeling of social doom surged in his heart, and a look of despair appeared on his face.
Sikong Tan looked at him with a deathly pale face and tried to comfort him, but his comfort went in the wrong direction:
"Okay, now that he's appeared and attracted attention, you can rest assured that he won't be caught again. Let's just go back to the car."
Lin Guantang turned his eyes towards him and replied weakly:
"Could Senior Huo find a perfect reason to explain my origins to this person?"
Sikong Tan laughed twice, and said with a gloating look:
"It's simply because his hatred is too high. As long as he appears, no matter what misfortunes happen to the enemy, they will remember him—
Just like today, when you two appeared one after the other, they would probably think you were his minions. The surveillance here will be taken care of, and your pheromones will also be covered up. If someone really wants to cause trouble because of what happened today and can't find any clues about you, they will probably go straight to Huo Shizhen, so you don't have to worry about retaliation."
Lin Guantang: ...
Is this okay?
Lin Guantang twitched his lips, and couldn't help but complain about how high the hatred value must be to be automatically marked as soon as he appeared, but -
Lin Guantang said with some concern:
"But won't this implicate Senior?"
This is something less to worry about.
"You should be worried about someone who might cause trouble for him, rather than this—"
Sikong Tan paused for a moment, then looked at Lin Guantang again, smiling meaningfully:
"Would you like to guess whether he was just passing by unintentionally, or was he staying there on purpose to draw hatred for you?"
Even if he really had such thoughts, being teased like this left Lin Guantang speechless.
However, no matter whether the other party did it intentionally or unintentionally, he/she showed up to help me avoid trouble, so shouldn’t I thank him/her?
However, when Lin Guantang looked over there again, it was empty.
Not only was Huo Shizhen missing, but even Jiang Zihao, who had chased him out, had vanished as well. The place was completely empty, not a single person in sight. Lin Guantang rubbed his eyes, suspecting he was hallucinating.
"Where are they? Why are they all gone?"
"He's not a big shot. Huo Shizhen can take care of him with just a glance."
Sikong Tan thought about Huo Shizhen's schedule for today and replied:
"He must have been rushing to attend the dinner party, so he just left. He has absolutely no emotional intelligence. He didn't even think to come over and say hello to Xiao Haitang or comfort her. As for Jiang Zihao, I guess he saw Huo Shizhen and thought he was out to cause trouble, so he rushed back to destroy the evidence."
If that’s the case, then Senior Huo really did pass by.
Lin Guantang withdrew his gaze, let out a breath with mixed feelings, and then followed Sikong Tan out of the mansion.
On the other side, the alpha in the flowered shirt following Huo Shizhen was named Luo Fan, one of the important members of the executive department. He didn't take the little episode to heart, and was filled with only admiration for Huo Shizhen's approach.
Today is the boss's treat, and he has the executive department and the discipline department having a joint dinner. Because there are so many people, he asked everyone to gather directly at a barbecue market, which is just across the street, but the boss insisted on turning and passing by this mansion. He was puzzled at first, but when he saw the suspicious person, his confusion turned into admiration, although he still didn't quite understand why the boss had to show up specially for a small follower.
"Boss, didn't they say that this guy is still useful to the Intelligence Department, so we should wait a couple of days before arresting him?"
Huo Shizhen responded casually:
"No need for that. Has the tracker been installed?"
Luo Fan wiped his nose and said proudly:
"That's a must~"
Huo Shizhen stopped asking questions.
Why go through so much trouble? Isn't the reason very simple?
Just to rescue an omega who was running away.
Huo Shizhen was very aware of his hatred level. Even if he didn't say a word, it was enough to scare the cockroaches and rats in the dark so that they wouldn't dare to act rashly. In fact, it was because he didn't say anything that people imagined all kinds of terrible results and even lost their composure.
As for revenge, Huo Shizhen actually hoped that the other party would come to him on their own initiative, so as to save him the trouble of collecting evidence and clues everywhere, which would be truly boring.
But although Huo Shizhen helped to rescue the man, he did not intend to ask Lin Guantang for any reward for his help, because it was difficult for him to control himself from saying anything sarcastic.
How should I put it about Lin Guantang's task completion? It was far from a perfect conclusion, but it had quite a comedic effect.
Huo Shizhen couldn't say against his will that Lin Guantang had completed his mission very well, but it wasn't like he didn't have any merits at all.
At least he didn't give up halfway, so there is still hope of saving the situation - since it was he who came up with the idea of training Lin Guantang, he must stick to it to the end, and at the same time, he must also take on the responsibility of providing a safety net.
But then again, if Lin Guantang was devastated by this sudden mission and was so scared that he never dared to take on such tasks again, then everything would be out of the question. He would just have to stay in Quan O College and be a vase that was coveted and manipulated by others.
This is also the issue that Sikong Tan wants to discuss with Lin Guantang.
After they got back into the car and left, Sikong Tan asked Lin Guantang about his opinion on the mission.
Lin Guantang said dejectedly:
"I know I didn't do well today. If I have to do it again, I will never do it again."
"There's no second chance in life, but there are countless ways to unfold a mission."
Sikong Tan checked the message on the terminal. His voice was no longer as relaxed and playful as usual. He asked in a very serious tone:
"But after what you've gone through, do you still have the courage to continue on to the next mission? If the next mission unfolds in the same way, would you really be willing to continue?"
Lin Guantang raised his head and looked at him. After a moment of silence, he said in the most serious tone:
"I can. I won't make the same mistake again—at least not this stupid."
Lin Guantang was even in no mood to think about what kind of benefits or honors this kind of mission could bring him. He simply wanted to regain his lost face - at least let him take on the mission again, even if it was only once, as long as he could end it perfectly, he would be satisfied.
Upon hearing this, Sikong Tan glanced at him, his ice-blue eyes flashing with determination, conveying that the owner was unwilling to give in or retreat.
"Since you have made this decision, then—"
Sikong Tan's tone became more serious. He turned around and faced Lin Guantang. His always smiling face was actually quite oppressive once he became serious.
"Then, next, I will tell you a piece of news that may overturn your understanding. You must be mentally prepared."
His tone and expression seemed to indicate that something absolutely unimaginable had happened, causing Lin Guantang to hold his breath and become solemn.
He couldn't help but wonder what the news would be - they wouldn't suddenly tell him that this was a magical world, would they?
That was enough to subvert his cognition...
Lin Guantang nodded and replied while his imagination ran wild:
"I'm ready."
Sikong Tan hummed, thought for a while, and said:
"Before that, there's one thing I need to confirm with you. Earlier, when we were at O College, you said that joining our group chat was a special privilege for freshmen. If I remember correctly, joining a group chat like this involves being introduced by a senior or randomly added. So, you were probably pulled in by someone else?"
Lin Guantang nodded. Although he was still not sure how this related to what the senior said about the possibility of subverting his cognition, he still answered honestly:
"It was Senior Shao who pulled me in."
That's no problem.
Sikong Tan has already retrieved Lin Guantang's personal resume. At least from his point of view, Lin Guantang has a clean background. Except for the unknown identity of his biological parents, all other information is clean and there is no doubt. He is indeed an ordinary freshman in O College.
Combined with what Lin Guantang said today, Sikong Tan could probably deduce what happened in the middle - it must be that Shao Qingbai gave the group chat method to his sister Shao Qingzhu for some reason, and Shao Qingzhu gave the group chat to Lin Guantang... It was completely expected that the person who leaked the information was Shao Qingbai.
Although it is not clear yet why Shao Qingzhu allowed such a junior to enter the Central Military Academy’s group chat—
As the eldest daughter of the police station, Shao Qingzhu is certainly not a bad person who wants to plant an undercover agent, so the most likely possibility is that Miss Shao wants to be a matchmaker and introduce an S-level alpha to her junior brother who comes from a poor family. However, she doesn't like her own brother, so she simply drags him into a group chat full of S-level alphas.
This idea is good, but unfortunately it was the senior students who first noticed the abnormality of Lin Guantang's identity, not the four freshmen.
Needless to say, Huo Shizhen's bizarre ABO view, Yin Zhiyou looks like he wants to compete with Huo Shizhen for who is the most frigid alpha, and as for Sikong Tan——
Everything was normal with Sikong Tan, but he really loved to have fun.
This feeling even surpassed the alpha's instinctive need for the omega. If he had met Lin Guantang under any other circumstances, it would not be impossible for him to say sweet words to Lin Guantang - but how much sincerity there was in it was unknown.
But when Huo Shizhen proposed to train the omegas in the O Academy to become omegas capable of completing most of the tasks of the Central Military Academy, it was difficult for Sikong Tan to refuse such a plan.
It just so happened that Lin Guantang's purpose in applying to the All-O Academy was not to find a wealthy alpha to cling to, but to break free from the hopeless constraints of District 35... and he broke into the group chat of the Central Military Academy students on his own. How could this not be a kind of destiny, a two-way journey?
