In a deep alley with a long history in City A, there lived a girl in a wheelchair and an old man in his sixties.
Outside, the weather was sunny and blue with white clouds; inside, the environment was a little dim and gloomy because of the small windows.
Ji Manxing was reluctant to waste electricity, so he could only endure this depressing environment and silently type on the keyboard.
A year ago she was in a car accident, which not only took away her parents, but also took away her legs.
Although her parents were not at fault, the compensation money plus the remaining savings in the family left little after dealing with her parents' funeral and treating her legs. She had no choice but to move out of the community and live in a small alley with her grandfather.
Fortunately, she is not the kind of person who gives up easily. Although her living environment is not as good as before, she is still very optimistic and will not complain in front of her grandfather.
After her legs became less mobile, she stayed at home and took on some translation and design work using the computer.
"Ding-ling-ling~"
The sudden ringing of the landline interrupted her thoughts on work.
Ji Manxing squinted at the sky outside the window and answered the phone.
"Hello, Grandpa."
"What? My grandpa is injured?...Okay, okay, Aunt Li, I'll be there soon."
She hung up the phone worriedly, looked around the house, picked up her wallet and cell phone, and hurried away in her wheelchair.
After spending a considerable amount of money on a taxi, she arrived at the hospital safely.
She looked at her grandfather who was already wearing a respirator and sat in front of the bed with some self-blame.
It's all her fault for being so useless that grandpa has to go out to work at such an old age.
If I hadn't gone out to work today I wouldn't have fallen accidentally.
She thought about the little money left on her bank card and became anxious. What if there was not enough money for her grandfather's hospitalization?
Just when I was thinking of a solution, Aunt Li, the cook who also worked in the villa, came in with a receipt.
"Little girl, come out."
Ji Manxing didn't want to disturb her grandfather's rest, so she quickly pushed the wheelchair out.
"Thank you so much, Aunt Li. I don't know what I would have done without your help."
She was very grateful for Aunt Li's help. If Aunt Li hadn't helped her pay the money and register, she really didn't know how long it would take for her to get treatment since she was alone in a wheelchair.
"Haha, you're welcome, little girl. Your grandfather often helped out when he was at the villa."
After saying this, Aunt Li carefully handed the receipt to Ji Manxing.
"By the way, little girl, keep this receipt. Old Ji suffered a work-related injury, and the villa owner said he will pay for all the hospitalization expenses. You just need to take care of Old Ji."
"Take it, little girl. Mr. Yan is a good man. It's okay."
Aunt Li has worked in the villa for so long that she knows a little about the situation in the Ji family.
Ji Manxing looked at the receipt that Aunt Li stuffed in and felt very grateful to Mr. Yan.
Although she didn't think Mr. Yan needed to pay all the expenses, she didn't want to lose her grandfather, so she could only silently make up her mind to pay him back in the future.
"Aunt Li, will Mr. Yan be home tomorrow? I want to go and thank him."
"Haha, sir, you won't be back until the evening. You can come later."
"There's nothing to do here. I have to go back and cook. Little girl, I'm leaving first."
Aunt Li looked at the clock in the corridor and left in a hurry.
"Okay, goodbye Aunt Li, be careful on the road."
Ji Manxing watched Aunt Li leave before returning to the ward.
With Mr. Yan's help, her pressure was relieved a lot, but it was not enough. Grandpa definitely needed someone to take care of him.
But her legs remain intact, so she still needs a caregiver.
Ji Manxing calculated the expenses in her mind, and seeing that her grandfather would not wake up for the time being, she decided to go home to get the notebook first.
She has to hurry up and make money.
