Life and death together

Life and death together

The heavy rain for several days seemed to have soaked the entire mass grave. It was impossible to tell whether it was a new grave or an old grave just by looking at the soil. Su Musong could only judge based on whether there was grass growing on the grave.

However, in such a huge city like Luzhou, all the unclaimed bodies were thrown into this mass grave. Even if one only dug a new grave without grass, it would not be a job for one person in one night. But Su Musong didn't care about that.

After digging tirelessly for two days and two nights, Su Musong finally fell into the mud pit due to exhaustion.

He didn't find Xiao Luochen, but he felt inexplicably happy in his heart.

He couldn't find Xiao Luochen's body, so Xiao Luochen was not dead. But after a while, seeing the numerous graves that had yet to be excavated, he slapped himself again, blaming himself in his heart for not stopping and not continuing to dig.

The slap was not light. Su Musong felt his head buzzing and mosquitoes seemed to be flying in front of his eyes.

He didn't realize that this hallucination was not only due to the slap, but also because he hadn't eaten or drunk anything for two days and two nights.

This pause made Su Musong finally realize how hungry he was. He took out the dry food and water he had brought with him and gobbled them up.

After a full meal, his mind seemed to become a little clearer. Su Musong felt that if he continued to dig graves one by one as before, it would take him an indefinite amount of time to finish the work by himself. He should think of a way.

Immediately, Su Musong threw away the shovel in his hand, rode back to the city, and after paying and asking for directions many times, he finally found the two officers who were responsible for disposing of the body that day.

Su Musong paid some money and the officers took him to the mass grave. Soon they found Xiao Luochen's burial place.

The officer pointed to the newly emerged mound in front of him.

"Look, this is it. My brother and I buried it ourselves. The head and body are here."

The officer raised his shovel and prepared to dig, but was stopped by Su Musong.

"No, don't!"

Although he had a clear target, Su Musong did not dare to dig anymore. The officer had clearly told him that the slightly raised mound in front of him was where Xiao Luochen was buried. He could no longer deceive himself and say that Xiao Luochen was not dead.

"So should we dig or not?"

After waiting for a cup of tea, the officer looked at Su Musong, who was stunned, and thought that this man might have gone crazy. Anyway, the silver had been obtained and the place had been pointed out to him, so the rest of the matter had nothing to do with him.

Therefore, the two of them no longer paid any attention to Su Musong and left the mass grave on their own.

After standing in front of the grave for half an hour, Su Musong finally decided to dig it up to confirm, but the servants had already left with the tools, so he had to do the job alone.

Su Musong picked up a half-long forked branch on the ground and used it to dig the pile of earth. Since it was a new burial, the soil was soft. Moreover, people usually buried people in mass graves in a hasty manner, so the pits were not necessarily dug very deep.

Su Musong had dug out half the body without much effort. The weather in Luzhou this month was hot and humid, and the body had decomposed particularly quickly. The flesh on the hands had already fallen off, leaving only bones.

Su Musong numbly waved the branch in his hand to brush away the dirt on the corpse, and tears fell unconsciously.

Soon the body was dug out completely, but after digging three feet into the ground, Su Musong still couldn't find the head of the body.

But the shape of the corpse, the clothes it was wearing, and the jade pendant around its waist that represented the Xiao family, everything confirmed to Su Musong that the headless corpse in front of him was indeed Xiao Luochen.

Su Musong picked up the diamond statue he had carved with his own hands that fell from the corpse's arms, and finally broke down completely, bursting into tears.

This is the warm sunshine that gives him hope in the cold winter, the bright moonlight that comforts him when he is frightened and worried, the unchanging stars that accompany him to see the scenery of the four seasons, and he is also his confidant and lover who has made an appointment to go through life together!

He had thought that he and Xiao Luochen might be criticized and reviled by the world in the future, might be kicked out of the house by their parents, or might be forced to live in seclusion in the mountains because they were not tolerated by the world, but this was not the case at the moment.

All sorts of thoughts flashed through Su Musong's mind.

He wanted to kill those who slandered the Xiao family for treason.

Kill the people who arrested Xiao Luochen,

Kill the executioner,

He wanted to commit suicide and chase Xiao Luochen to the Yellow Springs Road to stop him from drinking Meng Po soup...

In the end, it was like the last lamps that had burned out their oil, going out one by one, leaving only chaos.

After Xiao Luochen left, Su Musong felt that his world had suddenly lost the sun, moon, and stars, leaving only endless darkness.

Half a day later, Su Musong finally stopped crying, but like a puppet that had lost its soul, he cremated the remains without a trace of emotion and found a porcelain jar to collect the ashes.

Su Musong didn't know how he accomplished all these things, nor did he know how he returned to the city. He staggered on the street, holding the urn tightly. He was covered in mud and had disheveled hair. He looked like a fool and madman, and passers-by avoided him.

Su Musong tripped over something and fell on the street. He glanced at the porcelain jar in his arms, holding it tightly so as not to fall, but then he fainted.

When he woke up again, Su Musong found himself lying next to a stall selling roasted sweet potatoes. The porcelain jar he was holding in his arms was placed aside. He hurriedly took it and held it in his arms, but found that the ashes in the porcelain jar were gone, replaced by roasted sweet potatoes.

Su Musong stared blankly at the old man selling roasted sweet potatoes, and the tears that he had just managed to stop started to flow again.

"You're finally awake. You haven't eaten in a long time, have you?"

"How pitiful! You're so stupid and foolish, holding a jar of wood ash as if it were a treasure. I'll clean it for you. You can use it to beg for food in the future. Don't let anyone dump any messy things in it again."

"These sweet potatoes are from me for you. Eat them and go somewhere else. I can't afford any more than this small business."

The old man selling sweet potatoes thought that Su Musong was crying because he was grateful, but he didn't know that he actually wanted to kill someone.

He simply wanted to take Xiao Luochen back to Yongcheng for burial, but he hadn't expected that Heaven wouldn't even grant his humble wish. What could he do? Kill him to vent his anger? He wasn't one to indiscriminately kill innocent people, let alone a kind person who was unaware of the situation.

It seems that the world has always been like this. Good people are always restrained because they don't want to implicate innocent people, while bad people can do whatever they want because they have no scruples. Good people often suffer and swallow their blood, but are still ridiculed as cowards, while bad people do all kinds of evil things and gain fame and fortune, but are regarded as role models.

Su Musong pulled the corners of his mouth with a smile, not knowing whether he was laughing at himself or at the world. The old man couldn't help feeling uneasy when he saw his weird expression, but seeing that he just looked crazy and didn't look like a bad guy, he just urged him to leave, turned around and washed the sweet potatoes, and ignored him.

Behind the roasted sweet potato stall is the canal that brings water to the city. It is about two meters wide and one meter deep.

Su Musong looked at the old man washing sweet potatoes in the canal and thought to himself, Luo Chen's ashes were probably scattered into this canal. He wondered where he would go. Wouldn't it be too lonely to go on the road alone?

Thinking of this, he jumped into the ditch.

Su Musong disobeyed Xiao Luochen's advice on the night of the Lantern Festival, asking him to live a good life even if they were separated by life and death, and completely forgot Changsun Chenqian's advice before leaving.

When Su Musong was about to fall into the water, someone jumped into the canal and pulled him out.
