Chapter 4 Love-Brained Gods 4: Slaying Gods
The Earth God's gaze fell upon Qi Wang.
He was exceptionally handsome, with a long skirt-like hem that meandered behind him, dotted with tiny green specks that formed magnificent and magical patterns. The earth god radiated a seven-colored divine light, which made him appear incredibly holy, like a celestial being descended from the heavens.
The Earth God's original name was Xue Qi. He was once a human. Because he was wholeheartedly devoted to the people, he did many good deeds. After his death, the people remembered his kindness, built temples for him, sculpted golden statues, and spread his achievements everywhere.
Because of these merits, Xue Qi became the local deity, transforming from a human into a god.
The people believed in him and worshipped him, and he was responsible for protecting the people of this area.
Xue Qi has been doing this for the past few centuries.
But when did everything start to change?
Qi Wang stared at Xue Qi.
The indifferent-looking Earth God frowned slightly and said coldly, "What kind of demon dares to be so insolent before me?"
He raised his hand toward Qi Wang, and dark flames gathered in his palm. Xue Qi didn't waste any words with Qi Wang and flicked the flames in his hand toward Qi Wang.
The black flames swelled with the wind, burning everything in their path to scorched earth.
He gave Qi Wang no way out.
Regardless of Qi Wang's identity, defying the gods is a grave sin, and only by scattering his soul can he cleanse himself of his sins.
As for whether executing Qi Wang would implicate ordinary people, that was not something Xue Qi was considering.
Human life is as insignificant as an ant's. Let alone a villager, even a town or a city, if someone dies, they die. What's the big deal?
He didn't care about Qi Wang's life or death, nor did he care about the lives of his followers. Since their faith was not pure, they were better off dead.
The black flames quickly engulfed Qi Wang. Xue Qi had seen far too many traitors like him who intended to rebel against the gods in the past two years.
They thought they had some power and could oppose the gods, but they didn't realize that the light of a firefly could not compete with the brilliance of the moon.
Humans are selfish, hypocritical, greedy, cowardly, arrogant, and conceited. They think they have the ability to contend with gods when they gain a little power, but they don't realize that killing them is no different from killing an ant.
The ant in front of me was indeed stronger than the previous ones, but that was all; it wouldn't take much effort to deal with.
Seeing Qi Wang being engulfed by the black flames, Xue Qi turned and left.
He didn't care about the consequences of a flame that couldn't be extinguished by ordinary people.
Xue Qi's figure disappeared from the spot, but in an instant, he appeared in a quiet and elegant courtyard.
In the courtyard, there was a pond covered with pink lotus flowers. A beautiful woman in a pink dress was scattering fish food into the pond.
One after another, plump goldfish leaped out of the water, vying for the fish food on the surface.
Upon seeing this, the beautiful woman let out a silvery laugh.
The moment Xue Qi saw the woman, his tense body relaxed. He flashed behind her and pulled her into his arms.
"Yan'er, why did you get up? You haven't fully recovered yet. What if you catch a cold?"
Yan'er turned to look at Xue Qi, her eyes flashing with a strange light, and a bright smile appeared on her face.
"Archie, you're back."
She snuggled into Xue Qi's arms and said cheerfully, "I'm feeling much better now, Aqi. I'm not fragile, you don't need to be so nervous."
Yan'er chattered away, her eyes and brows full of a happy smile.
Xue Qi looked down at her, the frost on his face dissipated, and his eyes were full of tenderness.
"You still need to be careful. Your soul has just gathered together and needs time to fully integrate with your body. You can't..."
Before he could finish speaking, a dazzling stream of light appeared in Xue Qi's eyes, and Yan'er's smile froze as a bloody hole the size of a thumb appeared between her eyebrows.
Before Xue Qi could even react, the overwhelming force shattered Yan'er's soul, and the body he had painstakingly created for Yan'er also disintegrated and vanished into dust after losing its soul.
"No!!!!"
Xue Qi let out a desperate cry. He reached out in vain, trying to grab Yan'er, but the last trace of her existence in the world slipped through his fingers and disappeared completely.
Watching his lover, who had just been nestled in his arms, disappear without a trace, Xue Qi could not accept this outcome.
He had already lost Yan'er once. It took him so long to see his own feelings clearly and to get Yan'er back by his side. How could she disappear again?
After losing Yan'er, Xue Qi was enveloped in countless black mists. He recklessly drained the life force of his believers, devouring their bodies and souls.
Without smoke, what is the point of existence for anything in this world?
He just wants cigarettes...
Just as Xue Qi was going berserk, a hand landed on his shoulder.
At the same time, Xue Qi, who was frantically absorbing the life force of his followers, froze, and his control over them vanished completely at that moment.
His connection with his followers was severed.
"Xue Qi, you are the local deity of this land, and people worship you. How could you treat them like this?"
Not only did they fail to protect them, but they also became the executioners who harmed them.
How can he be worthy of being the local earth god?
Upon hearing the voice, Xue Qi suddenly looked up.
A familiar yet unfamiliar face came into his view.
The person in front of me seemed familiar, as if I had seen him somewhere before.
Xue Qi's eyes darted around, and he quickly remembered where he had seen Qi Wang before.
"It's you..."
He was the mortal who ruined his plans, the ant that Xue Qi regarded as an ant, thinking he could easily crush.
"You killed my Yan'er."
Qi Wang shook his head: "It wasn't me, she was already dead."
Just now, Qi Wang followed Xue Qi back to his residence.
As a god, even if the human world has become a hell, it still has no effect on him.
His courtyard was nestled against the mountain and beside the water, with lotus flowers filling the pond, and the koi carp raised in the huge pond were all plump and strong.
Just a wall separates the outside from the hell on earth, while inside lies paradise.
This is his and his lover's nest.
Qi Wang was unaware that his words had provoked Xue Qi. He suddenly launched an attack, saying fiercely, "What do you know? How can a mere mortal judge the matter between me and Yan'er?"
He said that since he became a god, he has lived a lonely and desolate life, and his long life has become a torment, with the local temple becoming his prison.
He was burdened with heavy shackles; he lost himself and became someone who lived for his believers.
"It was Yan'er who made me feel like I was alive again."
That elfin girl used her own life to pull him out of his cage, allowing him to become himself again, instead of being a god held high above others.
"She died for me, how can I let her die like this?"
His life, which was like a dry well, was revitalized because of Yan'er's existence. Yan'er sacrificed herself for him, so how could he just watch her die?
He once loathed his divine identity, believing that the duty of a god was to imprison him, deprive him of his freedom, and turn him into a puppet to fulfill the wishes of believers.
But when he resurrected Yan'er, he was incredibly grateful that he was a god.
It was precisely because of his divine status that he had the ability to revive Yan'er, allowing her to open her eyes again and smile at him once more.
But now, everything has been ruined by Qi Wang.
"We have no grudge against each other, why are you doing this to me?"
Xue Qi stared intently at Qi Wang, his eyes filled with piercing hatred. If he still had the strength, he would have already fought Qi Wang to the death.
"They were all your followers, and for one person, you actually took their lives..."
Xue Qi didn't think he had done anything wrong at all.
"How can their lives compare to Yan'er's? As long as Yan'er can come back to life, what do the rest have to do with me?"
He only wanted Yan'er to live, and he was willing to pay any price to bring her back to life.
After a few short exchanges with Xue Qi, Qi Wang understood what kind of person he was, and there was no point in arguing with him.
Perhaps he was once a human being who genuinely served the people, but when he became a god and gained the ability to control his followers, his mindset gradually became unbalanced.
Why would a god high above care about the life and death of mortals? To him, these mortals are nothing but consumables.
Qi Wang lowered his eyes and looked at Xue Qi.
“Your Yan’er is dead, her soul scattered, she died without a burial place, she can never come back to life.”
Xue Qi's Yan'er had long since died. The Yan'er that came back to life was nothing more than a monster formed from his obsession.
The deity's obsession transformed into a soul, and the life force of countless believers coalesced into her body. Her ability to 'live' depended entirely on Xue Qi absorbing the life force of the believers.
Qi Wang destroyed the soul formed from obsession, returning that vitality to Xue Qi's followers.
"Since you are unwilling to be a god, then go back to being an ordinary person."
Qi Wang stripped Xue Qi of his power, turning him from an omnipotent god into an ordinary person.
If you don't want to be a god, you can give up your power and become an ordinary person again.
Wanting the status and power of a god without wanting to fulfill the duties of a god? Where in the world can you find such a good deal?
Xue Qi thought Qi Wang would kill him.
However, Qi Wang only stripped him of his power, turning him back into an ordinary person.
Having been a god for so long, Xue Qi had forgotten what it was like to be a human.
The country is currently suffering from a severe drought, and people are struggling on the brink of death.
The high and mighty god has fallen back to the mortal world. What kind of purgatory awaits him?
