Chapter 43 Pei Yu is injured, Your Majesty...
Pei Yu was injured, and His Majesty and the Empress showered him with gifts, piling them up in Huiyin's west courtyard.
Although Pei Yu repeatedly emphasized that his injury was not serious, His Majesty still granted him half a month's leave to recuperate. Pei Yu knew perfectly well that Emperor Xuan was making it clear that he did not want him to get involved in the assassination case, so he could not openly oppose him and obediently stayed in Yingfeng Pavilion to recuperate.
Taking advantage of his injury, Pei Yu monopolized Huiyin's time, accompanying her to meals, sleep, and even when she was bored.
Huiyin could only watch helplessly as Madam Pei, He Jiaying, and Pei Yan went out to play in high spirits, leaving her alone to accompany Pei Yu.
That day, Huiyin was diligently practicing calligraphy in her room when Pei Yu sat beside her, constantly bothering her. Annoyed, Huiyin glared at Pei Yu and asked, "What exactly do you want?"
Pei Yu remained silent, staring at Huiyin with his predatory gaze, raising an eyebrow to let her figure it out herself.
Huiyin could tell from his gaze that he was being improper. She'd received numerous subtle and overt hints from Pei Yu over the past two days, so she naturally understood the meaning behind his look. In his words, even if you can't have meat, some soup will do.
Huiyin beckoned him, and Pei Yu obediently leaned closer, his Adam's apple bobbing.
Huiyin raised her hand to shield his aggressive gaze, slowly leaned in, and kissed his slightly cool lips.
The moment she touched him, the tips of her ears turned slightly red, and she pushed Pei Yu's head away, saying, "Don't bother me anymore."
Pei Yu licked his lips with a hint of ecstasy, then sat down next to Huiyin with an air of authority. His strong, slender legs wrapped around her, pressing against her lower back, and he said in a hoarse voice, "Not enough."
Huiyin was a little angry and turned around to argue. But before she could open her mouth, Pei Yu pulled her into his arms with such force that it felt like he wanted to crush her into his body. Before her lips could close, Pei Yu took the opportunity to slip in and hold her in his arms, wantonly rubbing against her.
Huiyin pounded on Pei Yu's shoulder, grabbing his arm to free herself. Just as she caught her breath, he pressed close to her again, pecking at the corner of her mouth and saying, "Now that's what you call a kiss."
Finally, somehow, she was pinned to the table, and the bamboo slips she had just written on, mixed with ink, fell to the ground, turning into a black stain.
Pei Yu placed one hand behind Huiyin's head, pressed her down in a deep kiss, and stole all the air from her mouth. He wanted her to be completely imbued with his scent from head to toe.
He pulled away slightly, patting Huiyin's chest to help her catch her breath. Huiyin's face was flushed from his kisses, her lips were more vibrant than usual, and they were still moist. She opened her eyes in a daze, her mouth slightly open, and she trembled gently in his arms.
As Pei Yu gazed at her infatuated state, his hands resting on her soft, undulating body, a sudden surge of heat rose in his lower abdomen, making him almost lose control.
Huiyin regained her senses, pushed Pei Yu away and sat up. The manuscript she had been writing for most of the day was ruined, and the ink stains had stained the carpet.
Pei Yu knew he was wrong, so he touched her back and admitted his mistake, "I will definitely restrain myself next time."
Huiyin wiped her mouth hard and shoved him with both hands, "Get out of here!"
Pei Yu grasped her hand in return and coaxed, "I know I was wrong. How about I take you horseback riding?"
"It's hot, I don't want to go." Huiyin withdrew her hand, her expression indifferent.
"The weather is nice today, I'll take you to ride a Akhal-Teke horse, you'll definitely love the feeling of galloping on horseback."
Huiyin recalled the past and shook her head with some fear, "I don't like riding horses."
Pei Yu keenly sensed that something was wrong with her and kept asking why.
"I fell down when I was a child."
Huiyin didn't want to say much. When she was young, she rode a horse, and the usually docile horse suddenly went crazy and threw her off, breaking her leg and leaving her bedridden for three months. Since then, she has had a phobia of horses, which is why she has never been able to ride a horse for so many years.
Pei Yu pulled Huiyin back and squatted down beside her. "Do you believe me?"
Huiyin asked, puzzled, "What?"
"I won't let you fall."
Huiyin remained silent for a moment. She didn't understand why Pei Yu insisted on making her ride a horse, and she didn't want to go.
She withdrew her hand and turned to face Pei Yu, a gesture of rejection.
Pei Yu grasped Huiyin's shoulders and turned her to him. He looked directly at her, not allowing her gaze to escape. "I know falling off your horse is a terrifying thing for you, but there are some things you should face and overcome. I won't force you. Think about it carefully."
Huiyin didn't understand, "Why do you insist that I ride a horse?"
In that instant, she saw many things in Pei Yu's eyes, emotions so complex that she couldn't discern them. He said, "Knowing how to ride a horse isn't a bad thing; it can save your life in important moments."
——
After his wounds healed, Pei Yu couldn't stay idle and went out. When he first arrived at Ganquan Palace, he had an important post and was busy with defense. He had no time to rest, so he went up the mountain every day with his old cronies. Sometimes, when he was in high spirits, he would even stay on the mountain. Every day, he would order someone to bring back a few fresh wild game to cook for the Pei family.
The wild game soup was delicious, and Huiyin sipped it slowly while listening to He Jiaying's chatter. These days, she had gotten along well with Guo Lian. Madam Guo was straightforward and easy to get along with, and He Jiaying had gone from initially refusing to accepting him.
After finishing her soup, He Jiaying whispered in Huiyin's ear when Madam Pei wasn't looking, "I heard today that Guangling was indeed caught in bed with another man in the Yuanlin Garden that day, and the Empress sent her back to the capital overnight. Consort Zheng went to His Majesty to plead for her, but was angrily reprimanded by His Majesty for failing to properly educate her daughter."
Huiyin paused, put down the paint, and looked at him with a questioning gaze, "And then?"
He Jiaying continued, "I also heard that His Majesty has instructed the Imperial Household Department to prepare for the princess's surrender."
"What about the male concubines?" Huiyin asked.
He Jiaying shook her head. "Perhaps he was secretly executed."
Huiyin wanted to ask more, but Madam Pei suddenly sighed and stared sadly at the mountain with her beautiful eyes, "Yu'er's injuries have just healed, why can't he be more at peace? He sent word again today that he won't be returning."
He Jiaying was also curious: "I've never seen my cousin hanging out with that group of people before, what's going on now?"
Huiyin didn't reply; she probably knew what was going on. She and Pei Yu shared a bed every night, and Pei Yu was always restless, kissing her for a while every night before stopping. Several times, things escalated to the point where he had to restrain himself.
His temper flared up and grew stronger, and he was always irritable. One day, he scolded a maid in Huiyin's courtyard over a trivial matter, making the maid cry. Huiyin couldn't stand it and said a few words to him.
He didn't say anything at the time, but the next day he gathered a group of followers and went up the mountain. It's unclear who he was angry with.
After finishing her meal, Huiyin strolled around the courtyard to digest. She sighed, gazing towards the mountains. "He's really short-tempered," she thought. "I said four things to him, and he really didn't come back for four days."
If he doesn't return by tomorrow, she'll have no choice but to personally go up the mountain and politely invite this gentleman down.
Huiyin looked around but didn't see any familiar figures in the courtyard. She beckoned a maid and asked, "Where is Yanniang?"
The maid replied, "Yan Niang heard that there is a kind of bright red wild fruit in Qiuyuan that is sweet and crisp, so she went there with a few servants to pick it."
"How long have you been gone?"
"It has been about two hours."
Two hours passed. Huiyin frowned. Did it really take this long to pick wild fruit? Qiuyuan wasn't far from here.
"Come with me and let's go look for it."
Huiyin, accompanied by her maid, headed towards Qiuyuan. For some reason, she felt uneasy, as if something was amiss. Qiuyuan had an orchard, but at this time of year, most of the fruit trees were still bare, with only a few branches bearing small, bright red fruits.
There were several palace maids guarding the garden. Huiyin stepped forward and asked, "Have you seen a woman who is about forty years old and of slightly short stature come here?"
The palace maids shook their heads. "We only saw a few young maids walking hand in hand today."
Huiyin's heart sank to the bottom; something had happened to Yanniang.
She forced herself to calm down, and instructed the maid who was with her to go back and ask Madam Pei for help, while she went back along the way she came and asked each person one by one.
It wasn't until nightfall that she learned of Yan Niang's whereabouts from a maid. She said that at noon, Yan Niang and a servant woman went together towards the dense forest in the garden.
After His Majesty was assassinated in the Imperial Garden, the garden was sealed off and searched. It was only reopened yesterday. Why did that person lure Yan Niang into the dense forest? That forest has been turned into a hunting area, and the wild animals inside have not been cleared away. It is connected to the mountain, and no one knows what might be inside.
Huiyin stared intently at the dark, dense forest, a chill running through her body.
In the quiet night, Su Jinghao slowly walked out, followed by four maids with their heads bowed, one of whom had bloodstains on her sleeve.
She walked to Huiyin's side, gently stroked Huiyin's shoulder, and whispered in Huiyin's ear like a lover, smiling with a unique interest: "I heard she fell into the valley, her head is bleeding, and she won't last much longer. You can still go in and save her now, but do you dare to go in?"
Huiyin gazed at the dark forest, her fingernails digging into her palms. She couldn't leave Yanniang alone inside.
Where is she?
Su Jinghao pointed in a direction and said, "Over there."
Huiyin picked up a stick, lit it, and walked into the dense forest without looking back. As soon as she entered the woods, she heard rustling grass behind her and the roars of wild beasts in the distance. She bent down, gathered her skirt, gritted her teeth, and ran in the direction Su Jinghao had indicated.
Faster, even faster.
As Su Jinghao watched Huiyin's figure disappear into the dense forest, the smile on her face returned to calm. Her maid stepped forward and asked, "Miss, shall we send someone in to silence her?"
Su Jinghao was silent for a moment and then waved her hand, "No need to create any unnecessary complications, just let her die in the forest."
The dense forest sloped up and down, and Huiyin stumbled and fell several times, but she held onto her torch tightly and it never went out. After about fifteen minutes, she felt a metallic taste in her chest and could no longer hold on, so she stopped and leaned against a tree to catch her breath.
She dared not think about what would happen to her if Yan Niang died.
Huiyin hadn't cried in a long time, but she couldn't control her fear. She wiped her face, her palms wet with tears. Holding onto a tree, Huiyin searched slowly, and at the bottom of a low, steep slope, she saw a familiar dress.
Yan Niang lay unconscious on the ground, covered in blood. Her forehead had hit a rock, leaving a hole the size of an egg, and there were several bloody marks on her limbs.
"Mother Fu!"
Huiyin crawled down using both hands and feet, picked up Yan Niang's head to examine it, and noticed her faint breathing.
"Mother Fu, wake up...look at me..."
Huiyin took out a handkerchief from her bosom and covered Yanniang's forehead wound, sobbing softly. She dared not make a sound, as she had already entered the depths of the dense forest and was worried about attracting wild beasts.
Yan Niang's injuries needed to be treated quickly. She had lost consciousness, and Hui Yin could only try her best to drag her forward little by little. But no matter what she did or how she tried to lift her, she couldn't get Yan Niang up.
She could only hold Yan Niang and cry, "Mother Fu, please hold on a little longer, just a little longer, they'll be here soon."
Yan Niang moved her lips, her voice very soft.
Huiyin, her face streaked with tears, leaned closer and heard her say, "Go...you go."
"No, I don't want to."
Huiyin held her, resenting herself for not thinking of Su Jinghao's revenge sooner, for not noticing Yan Niang's disappearance sooner, and for arguing with Pei Yu...
"Mother Fu... I beg you... please don't leave me... don't leave me alone."
"roar--"
A whistling sound came, and Huiyin covered her mouth to suppress her sobs. She saw clearly the pair of emerald green eyes, and there was more than one pair. She released Yanniang and used a torch to set fire to the surrounding branches and weeds. The rising flames instantly illuminated the area.
Huiyin dragged Yanniang to a safe place. The weather was dry, and the wildfire could not only deter wild animals but also attract the attention of Ganquan Palace.
She held Yan Niang's slowly cooling body, her eyes reflecting the raging flames. Tears streamed down her face as Huiyin thought desperately, "It would be better to burn to death like this."
Once she dies, all her worries will be gone, she won't suffer, she won't be troubled. She was just too tired.
"Song Huiyin!"
Huiyin groggily opened her eyes, the smoke from the burning fire filling her nostrils, making it difficult for her to keep them open. She heard the angry shout; it was Pei Yu calling her.
Amidst the flames, Pei Yu rode his black horse high over the fire line and arrived beside her in the blink of an eye. Huiyin looked up at him in disbelief and said in a trembling voice, "Pei Yu, save Yan Niang, save her."
Pei Yu pulled out a damp handkerchief from his waist, dismounted, and covered Huiyin's nose. He took the unconscious Yan Niang from her arms and placed her on the horse's back. He helped Huiyin up and looked her over. He breathed a sigh of relief when he found that she was not injured. He suppressed his anger, lifted her onto the horse, and said fiercely, "I'll deal with you when we get back!"
Huiyin sat stiffly on the horse, her legs trembling uncontrollably. She recalled the scene of being thrown off the horse, and her right calf ached terribly.
She cried, "I can't, Pei Yu, put me down."
The fire grew larger and larger. Pei Yu cupped Huiyin's face and kissed her fiercely, wiping away her tears. "Huiyin, Yanniang is dying. Wuzhui can only take you and her out. Do you want to save her?"
With tears streaming down her face, Huiyin nodded, "I will save her."
"Good girl," Pei Yu put her dangling feet into the stirrups, held her hand and pulled the reins, making her hug Yan Niang tightly and lie on the horse's back. "Don't think about anything, close your eyes, Wu Zhui will take you to find Pei Yan."
"And what about you?"
"Don't worry about me, you start the fire, I'll put it out."
Pei Yu patted Wuzhui's head, and Wuzhui affectionately nuzzled his hand before running away from the fire, taking Huiyin and Yanniang with him.
Huiyin lay on the horse's back. She did not listen to Pei Yu's instruction to close her eyes. Instead, she turned back and stared at the figure in the fire. Her tears and voice were scattered in the wind.
"Pei Yu".
——
Inside Yingfeng Pavilion, Huiyin lay unconscious on the bed. She had several abrasions on her body, and a small red mark on her forehead from where she had bumped herself.
Pei Yu sat by the bedside, holding her hand and carefully applying the medicine. He had originally planned to wait for Huiyin to apologize to him, but after he had only scolded the maid a couple of times, Huiyin accused him of deliberately causing trouble. He was angry and deliberately went up the mountain and didn't return.
Having not seen Huiyin for several days, he felt a strong urge to see her again. His longing for her overcame his anger, so he went down the mountain that very night.
He had just come down the mountain when he met Pei Yan in a hurry. He learned from Pei Yan that Huiyin had an accident. When he saw the flames soaring into the sky in the garden, he felt as if he were in the fire and being burned by the flames.
He couldn't even quite remember how he rushed into the forest, only that Huiyin stared at him with lifeless eyes, tears welling up in her beautiful eyes, begging him to save Yanniang.
At that moment, he almost lost his grip on the reins. From that moment on, Pei Yu clearly realized that he had fallen, and he could never let her go in this lifetime.
Huiyin slowly opened her eyes, clutching Pei Yu's hand, "Yan Niang."
Pei Yu helped her sit up and comforted her, "She's not in mortal danger and is recovering. It's all thanks to your timely intervention to stop the bleeding."
Huiyin's face turned pale. "What about the fire?"
"It's already extinguished; not much was burned."
Huiyin nodded. "Are you... alright?"
Pei Yu glanced at her, inadvertently revealing the reddened skin on the side of his right hand. "I'm fine."
Huiyin grasped his hand as he tried to pull it back, frowning and remaining silent.
Pei Yu said nonchalantly, "It's just a minor injury; it'll be fine in a couple of days."
Do you have any medicine?
Pei Yu was taken aback, then leaned forward and said softly, "You really don't need to apply any medicine. Just blow on it for me."
He had only said it casually, not taking it seriously, but he never expected that Huiyin would actually hold his hand and gently blow on it. That breath seemed to blow into his heart, sweeter than the first jujube he ate as a child, and more exhilarating than the first time he beheaded a Xiongnu, making him unable to let go.
Even heroes can't resist the allure of beautiful women, and he was no exception.
Pei Yu asked softly, "Are you hungry?"
Huiyin shook her head. "I want to go see Yanniang."
Pei Yu stopped her, personally brought out the food and placed it on the wooden table, then picked up the porridge and fed Huiyin, "Eat first, then we'll go."
He scooped up a spoonful, blew on it to cool it, and handed it to Huiyin, coaxing her in a tone that sounded like he was talking to a child: "Open your mouth."
Huiyin hesitated for a moment, then leaned forward and swallowed the mouthful of porridge. She then took the bowl from Pei Yu's hand and said, "I can do it myself."
Pei Yu crossed his arms and looked at her, asking, "Do you have any clue who attacked Yan Niang yesterday?"
Huiyin shook her head. Pei Yu remained silent. The person from yesterday was the same one who bribed the maid in Suiyang at the palace banquet; Huiyin must know who it was.
Pei Yu felt inexplicably annoyed. Why did she keep it from him? Why didn't she trust him?
“That person has attacked you repeatedly. I have already ordered Chi Yan to investigate. Once I find out, I will deal with him directly. You are not allowed to be angry.”
"What if that person holds a high position and great power?" Huiyin put down her bowl and stared directly into Pei Yu's eyes for the first time, unwilling to miss any expression in his eyes.
Pei Yu bent down to wipe the water stains from Huiyin's lips and said, word by word, "No matter who it is, I will not let them go."
Huiyin lowered her eyes, ending the conversation. She put on an outer garment and went to the next room to visit Yan Niang. Yan Niang's forehead was bandaged, her face was pale, and her breathing was weak.
Huiyin sat down next to her and took her hand. She didn't have the ability to confront Su Jinghao for the time being, so she could only avoid her sharp edge. As for what Pei Yu said, she didn't believe it.
——
Outside the west courtyard, Chi Yan stood with his sword at the door, followed by a thin old man with his hands tucked into his sleeves, slightly turned to the side, looking around with his head down.
Pei Yu stepped out the door, nodded slightly to the old man, and gestured for them to follow.
The three walked in silence to a quiet spot. The old man stepped forward, took out a piece of silk from his sleeve, handed it to Pei Yu, and bowed, saying, "Young General, all the people you asked me to investigate are here. There are only three people around the Grand Marshal who match your description. Two of them died seven years ago, and the remaining one went to Dai County with the Grand Marshal five years ago and has not been heard from since."
Pei Yu took the silk scroll. The man was named Chen Jie, a native of Shu. He joined the army at the age of nineteen, was transferred to Pei Qing's side at the age of twenty-five, and went to Dai County with Pei Qing at the age of thirty-six. His parents had died, and he had never married or had children, living a lonely life.
Such a person, with no ties to the world, should not be easily bought off.
"Do you have any information about him before he joined the army?"
The thin old man bent down even lower. "No, we need to go to Shu to investigate."
Are any of the people who enlisted with him still alive?
The thin old man said, "There are a few more people, but they are all far away in Dai County."
Pei Yu smiled and said, "Uncle Zhang, thank you for running around. Go and rest now."
The thin old man answered in a low voice and slowly withdrew.
After Chi Yan and the others left, he reported on the situation regarding Yan Niang's injury, which Pei Yu had asked him to investigate: "I asked the guards on duty in the garden yesterday. Yan Niang entered the dense forest with a maid. Half an hour later, the maid left the dense forest alone. I investigated along the way and found that the maid was the Crown Prince's person."
Pei Yu slowly turned his head, his gaze deep and unfathomable. "Are you sure?"
Chi Yan lowered his head and replied, "I found three people to testify, and it's confirmed that there's no mistake."
After a long silence, Chi Yan wiped the sweat from his palms on the hem of his robe and said again, "That maid is undoubtedly the Crown Prince's person. We still need to interrogate her to find out who she was acting on her orders. Young General, what do you think?"
"No need to investigate. Pick two female guards to protect her secretly, and don't let her find out."
“Yes,” Chi Yan replied.
When Pei Yu returned to the room, Huiyin had already come back from Yan Niang's place and was sitting at her desk practicing calligraphy. Thinking about it, most of the time when he saw Huiyin, she was either practicing calligraphy or reading; he rarely saw her doing anything else.
Unlike He Jiaying and Suiyang, who prefer girlish things and travel around.
Pei Yu walked over quietly and stood behind Huiyin, who was copying the characters. Pei Yu had seen Huiyin's own handwriting a few times; it was delicate and gentle. The characters she was copying were thin and sharp, unlike those written by a woman, nor were they the work of a master.
Whose handwriting is this?
Huiyin was concentrating on copying the characters when Pei Yu suddenly spoke up behind her, causing her to falter and leave ink marks on the bamboo slip.
She put down her pen and replied, "I don't know his name. I really like his form, and I practice it when I have free time."
Pei Yu sat down beside her, picked up the writing on the desk and examined it, but couldn't make anything out of it. But the handwriting looked familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere before.
Huiyin retrieved the bamboo slips and put them away. Her sleeve brushed against Pei Yu's knee as she softly asked, "Has His Majesty investigated the fire in the imperial garden?"
Pei Yu's gaze unconsciously fell on Huiyin's waist. She leaned slightly forward, her back straight, and the well-tailored dress revealed her slender waist, which could be encircled by one hand.
He lowered his eyes, silently bracing himself behind Huiyin and embracing her completely, his tone teasing: "His Majesty is busy investigating the assassin and has no time for such trivial matters. However, the Empress, upon hearing that the fire in the imperial garden was related to me, summoned me and gave me a severe scolding."
"Why didn't you tell the Empress that I was the one who released her?"
Huiyin turned and bumped into his arms, her nose filled with his scent. Embarrassed, she tried to back away, but Pei Yu grabbed her around the waist. He leaned close to her, staring at her lips, and said, "I'm your man. I can't push a woman out to take the blame."
Huiyin paused in her refusal, recalling how Pei Yu had helped her mount her horse last night, gently telling her not to be afraid, and how he had stood in the fire watching her, the wind blowing through his hair, his eyes filled with her.
She slowly closed her eyes, her eyelashes fluttering like butterfly wings, waiting for him to approach.
Pei Yu lowered his head, touching her briefly before pulling away. He reached out and stroked Huiyin's head, his voice suddenly turning sour, "You... are you still thinking about the Crown Prince?"
The enchanting atmosphere in the inner room vanished instantly upon hearing those words. Huiyin opened her eyes, her gaze filled with confusion, seemingly not understanding his meaning.
"What did you say?"
Pei Yu pulled her into his arms, the faint fragrance of Huiyin filling his nostrils, her soft, fragrant body beneath his hands. He pressed Huiyin tightly against his body, buried his face in her neck, and took a deep breath, saying fiercely, "There is no possibility between you and the Crown Prince anymore. You are not allowed to think about him again!"
Huiyin leaned on his shoulder, blinking in confusion. What was he saying?
Huiyin remained silent, which made Pei Yu feel even more aggrieved, as if he had drunk a mouthful of aged vinegar, the sourness spreading from his throat to his heart, leaving him speechless.
He pinched Huiyin's waist. "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Huiyin turned her head and stared at his slightly reddened eyes, and said softly, "Who told you that?"
Pei Yu sneered, "The person who has repeatedly harmed you is Su Jing, okay? You two used to be good sisters. If it weren't for the Crown Prince turning against each other, why would she have targeted you? And why won't you tell me? Isn't it because you have something to hide?"
Huiyin struggled out of his embrace, the heavy shadow that had been hanging over her heart dissipating, and she even felt like laughing. She clenched her fists and lowered her head, admitting the matter as Pei Yu had said, pretending to be embarrassed, "It was indeed because of this that I developed a grudge against her."
Upon hearing her admit it herself, Pei Yu was furious. He raised his hand and poked Huiyin's head, scolding, "Song Huiyin, you don't care about the people you should care about. You're blind and heartless."
Huiyin staggered as she dodged his attacks, hurriedly calling out to him, "I'm not in the mood for that right now, really!"
Pei Yu withdrew his hand suspiciously, crossed his arms, and remained silent.
Huiyin leaned closer, her eyes crinkling with a smile, "Does your promise to teach me how to ride a horse still stand?"
Pei Yu's brow twitched, and he arrogantly turned his face away. Huiyin straightened up, grabbed Pei Yu's face with both hands, turned him around, and lowered her head to kiss him.
Unlike before, which was a fleeting touch, she used some force, gently taking Pei Yu's lips into her mouth, licking back and forth along his lip line, easily prying open his lips, their lips and teeth intertwining.
Huiyin watched as Pei Yu slowly closed his eyes. His sharp eyes were covered by long eyelashes, and his sharp features softened as his expression relaxed.
He breathed softly beneath her, a tingling, itchy sensation that went straight to her heart. Her hand slid down Pei Yu's face to his most vulnerable neck, encircling his back and deepening the kiss.
Huiyin, unable to support herself while kneeling, swayed unsteadily. She tried to get up and change her position, but Pei Yu wouldn't let her leave. He pulled her into his arms around the waist, his hands tracing a path up Huiyin's thighs, crumpling her dress.
He touched something, and Huiyin trembled all over, feeling dizzy and her heart and lungs burning, just like when she first got drunk. She softly collapsed into his arms.
Pei Yu raised his head. The person beneath him had teary eyes, a flushed face, and heaving chests, looking as if he had been severely bullied, which made him lose control.
He took a deep breath, reached out and covered Huiyin's eyes, then gently rubbed against her, his voice hoarse: "I'll take you to the horse farm to pick out a horse later."
Huiyin remained silent, burying herself in Pei Yu's arms, only her slightly red ear tips showing. She clutched her pounding heart, revealing a long-lost girlish side; she loved kissing Pei Yu.
After the two huddled together to calm down for a moment, Pei Yu helped Huiyin change into some simple riding clothes. Worried that Huiyin was delicate and afraid of the sun, he took out a plain white gauze curtain and carefully covered Huiyin's head with it.
Pei Yu looked at Huiyin, whose face was covered, with satisfaction, and led her to choose a horse.
