Chapter 19 Family Crisis...

"Little Bao and Big Bao are back! Did you have fun today?"

As soon as Xia Wenxi and Xia Wensheng entered the door, Ke Shurong came up to them and asked what they had eaten and what they had done that day. Xia Wensheng was almost thirty years old, and he felt a little awkward being asked about his health by his mother like this.

But he still had questions to ask today, so he had to stay and patiently endure the "interrogation." Compared to Xia Wensheng, Xia Wenxi accepted her mother's concern much better, obediently answering what she had done and eaten that day.

"Mom, the food there is so delicious! Let's go again next time, okay?"

"Of course! Xiao Bao can go whenever he wants."

Xia Wensheng stood there for a while and couldn't help but interrupt the mother and daughter's sweet talk, "Mom, where did Dad go?" Actually, what he wanted to ask was - you two didn't fight again because of Grandpa and Grandma, did you?

"Dad's here—Dad's here!" Xia Hengyuan carefully walked over carrying a bowl of something. "I'm making a midnight snack for your mother! Do you two want some? If you do, Dad will make two more bowls."

Xia Wenxi shook her head. "I ate a lot tonight, so I'm not hungry yet. I won't disturb you and Mom any longer. I'll go upstairs to take a shower!"

Xia Wenxi felt she shouldn't disturb her parents' late-night snack time, so she said goodbye and went upstairs. But Xia Wensheng knew that his dad's antics today must have made his mom angry again.

Sure enough, Ke Shurong's face immediately darkened after she saw her daughter go upstairs. She ignored Xia Hengyuan's attempts to please her and went straight to sit down on the sofa in the living room.

Xia Wensheng glanced at his father, then followed and sat down on the sofa.

"Mom, what's wrong today? Did Grandpa and Grandma do something again?"

When the two elders of the Xia family were at their worst, Xia Wensheng was already old enough to understand things. He always stood on his mother's side and was never affectionate towards his grandparents. The only reason he would call them "grandpa" and "grandma" was because of his father.

Xia Hengyuan brought over a bowl of noodles and said gently, "Shurong, have some. You didn't eat properly tonight."

It would have been better if she hadn't brought it up, because it only made Ke Shurong angrier. But afraid of being overheard by her daughter, she kept her voice down even when she was angry, each word sounding like it was being squeezed out from between her teeth.

"Why am I angry? You come and tell your son what your parents said when they came over today. Do you even have the nerve to say that?"

Xia Wensheng frowned and looked at his father. His parents had always had a good relationship, but over the years, his mother would get angry whenever she talked about his grandparents. "Dad, what's going on?"

Actually, Xia Hengyuan was also angry about this. He put down the bowl in his hand, looked up to make sure his daughter wouldn't come down, and then started talking to his son about what happened today.

"Your grandparents said they want to introduce Xiaobao to a potential partner."

Xia Hengyuan's version of events was a veneer, because he couldn't bring himself to say the original words. His parents' stubbornness had never changed over the years, and Xia Hengyuan was heartbroken, heartbroken that his parents treated their child this way.

Upon hearing this, Xia Wensheng disregarded the distinction between elders and respect, frowning and scolding, "What? Are they out of their minds? How dare they come to my house and say such things? I absolutely cannot let them see Xia Wenxi again."

“I’m telling you, Xia Hengyuan—” Ke Shurong’s eyes were slightly red, like an angry lioness, “If your parents come home again, I will divorce you, and I will take the children with me. From now on, you and your parents can live in this house.”

"Shurong, I promise you, we won't let them come again."

Ke Shurong ignored his assurances and went upstairs on her own.

Xia Wensheng also wanted to go upstairs to his room, but seeing his father like this, he couldn't bear it and continued to sit with him.

"Dad, I'm not saying this to be mean, but Grandpa and Grandma are really going too far. Who wouldn't be angry in this situation? Wenxi has been part of our family since she was little, but Grandpa and Grandma are always so mean to her. Think about it carefully. If you divorce Mom, I'll go after Mom."

Xia Hengyuan was furious, and when he heard his son say such nonsense, he took it all out on his son. "No one will think you're mute if you don't speak. Who said your mother and I are getting a divorce? And who... you're almost thirty, who can you possibly be with?"

"Fine, I've tried to reason with you, but you don't appreciate it. I don't care anymore. Anyway, I unconditionally support my mom on this matter."

After Xia finished speaking, she was about to go upstairs when Xia Hengyuan stopped her after she had only taken a few steps. "Your mother didn't eat properly tonight. She won't eat what I made. Go and make her another bowl."

Xia Wensheng twitched her lips, turned around and walked towards the kitchen, "I don't even dare to eat what I made, let alone my mom. I'll ask Aunt Li to make some."

"Wait, don't tell Xiaobao about what happened today."

"Mom and I won't tell her, but you have to keep an eye on Grandpa and Grandma, make sure they don't cause trouble in front of Xia Wenxi."

"That won't happen again." Xia Hengyuan's voice was low, as if he had aged a lot overnight.

Xia Wenxi only realized that her parents had argued on the second night, because she had been in the study all day writing her thesis under the guidance of Assistant Feng, and had not left her room except to eat.

During dinner that evening, it was just her and Ke Shurong at the table. She casually asked, "It's Sunday today, is Dad working overtime too?"

Ke Shurong paused for a moment while serving her soup before letting out a soft "hmm." It was this pause that made Xia Wenxi keenly aware that something was wrong.

"Mom, did you and Dad have a fight?"

Ke Shurong didn't want her daughter to know about this, so she forced a smile and said, half-jokingly, "You and your dad had a fight, but it's okay. Every couple has arguments, don't worry."

Xia Wenxi nodded in understanding and did not press them to ask why they were arguing.

It's normal for couples to have occasional friction, and Xia Wenxi has no memory of her past at all. In her memory, her parents' relationship was always very good, so she didn't take it to heart.

"Mom, don't be angry. When Dad comes back, he'll apologize to you properly!" Xia Wenxi said as she served her mother some food, trying to cheer her up.

"That's enough, Xiaobao. Eat up, eat more. You're working too hard studying right now."

"Uh-huh!"

Xia Wenxi nodded vaguely while chewing on a rib, secretly sending a message to Xia Hengyuan, asking him to bring a bouquet of flowers home to appease his mother after get off work.

That evening, when Xia Hengyuan returned from the company, he obediently brought back flowers, two bouquets, one large and one small. One bouquet of sunflowers was for his daughter, and the other large bouquet of roses was naturally for his wife.

Xia Wenxi happily carried the flowers back to her room to arrange them, leaving the living room to her parents.

Several more days passed before the dark clouds hanging over the Xia family finally dissipated completely. In addition, Xia Wenxi's thesis was progressing smoothly, so she decided to go out for a hot pot meal to celebrate!
