"Okay, go ahead and charge yourself. What would you like to eat tonight? Shall I cook for you?"
Upon hearing the word "dinner," Xia Wenxi raised her head.
I want to eat your spicy crayfish.
"Is it fully charged?"
"It's full! Let's go home!"
Xia Wenxi took Lin Shen's hand and started walking home. As luck would have it, before they even entered the residential area, they ran into Lin Ji and his wife at the entrance. The couple had just returned from buying groceries at a nearby supermarket.
Lin Ji's husband was carrying a slightly worn canvas bag, and the two held hands naturally, showing that they had a very good relationship.
"Xiaoxi, Xiaoshen, what a coincidence, you two haven't eaten yet, have you? Come over to my house for dinner tonight, and let your brother-in-law show off his cooking skills."
Lin Shen answered without much hesitation.
"Let's do it another day, sis. We're going home to cook today too."
Xia Wenxi was a little surprised when she heard this. She didn't realize that refusing someone could be so direct, without having to find another reason, such as that they had already ordered takeout or bought groceries.
Lin Ji heard this and didn't insist. She simply pointed out which building and floor she lived on when they entered the residential area together, saying, "Come over again when you have time. We'll be going now."
"Um."
Lin Shen nodded slightly, while Xia Wenxi waved her hand. After seeing the two leave, the two of them walked in another direction.
On the way, Xia Wenxi shared her thoughts.
She told Lin Shen, "If I don't want to go, I'll probably make up a reason why I can't go."
"I know you feel that even if you don't want to go, you should still be tactful when declining someone's invitation, right?"
"right."
Lin Shen smiled and said, "I sometimes refuse others like that, but I don't have to do that with my sister."
"Why? Because you are family?"
Xia Wenxi thought that if her mother asked her to come home for dinner and she didn't want to go, she would just say so directly instead of going through all the trouble of finding an excuse.
"No, it's not that, it's that it's unnecessary. When my sister was in college, my parents had a really bad fight, and they almost got divorced. My older brother called my sister, who was on vacation, and asked her to come home. She immediately said she wouldn't come back because she didn't care at all whether my parents were getting a divorce."
Lin Shen recalled that when he was a child, when he longed for his older sister to play with him, Lin Ji always refused him decisively, because she didn't like him as her younger brother.
"So, all she had to do was express that she didn't want to go; she didn't even need a reason."
Lin Shen looked down at Xia Wenxi and said softly, "Xiaoxi, if you encounter classmates you don't like at school, don't talk to them. You can just say you don't want to answer your question."
Xia Wenxi looked up at Lin Shen in surprise, "How come you..."
She then remembered that she had casually mentioned to Lin Shen that she had a classmate who was very "curious".
But she hasn't said anything yet today.
Lin Shen must really be able to read her mind.
Lin Shen saw through her thoughts and explained, "Since you started classes, you've never told me that you find your studies annoying, so it's not because of that."
Xia Wenxi sighed and said, "I was just thinking that it's only the beginning of the semester, and it's not good for me to not answer when people ask me questions. But I've learned my lesson today. In the future, if I don't want to answer a question or feel that might offend me, I'll just say it directly."
"No matter what, don't make yourself unhappy."
Xia Wenxi had stayed in this house once before, but her mother had it cleaned in advance, so it was ready to move in and all the necessary living supplies were provided.
Once inside the house, Lin Shen told Xia Wenxi to take a shower first.
"Go take a shower, I'll go buy groceries and cook."
Xia Wenxi was still smiling when she walked into the bathroom. Why did she feel like she and Lin Shen had entered the old married couple mode ahead of time?
It must be because her husband, Lin Shentai, is so virtuous that she has this feeling.
However, it doesn't feel bad.
When Xia Wenxi came out after taking a shower, Lin Shen had just received the groceries he bought from the supermarket and was preparing them.
Xia Wenxi came out and saw the washed fruit on the coffee table. She picked up two grapes and went to the kitchen door. She saw Lin Shen, who was still wearing a shirt and trousers, wearing an apron and chopping vegetables. Suddenly, she felt an impulse.
She walked over, popped a grape into Lin Shen's mouth, and said, "Lin Shen, let's go get our marriage certificate now."
Her tone was so natural that Lin Shen didn't even realize what she was saying.
His hand paused slightly as he chopped the vegetables, and before he could even swallow the grapes in his mouth, a look of utter bewilderment crossed his face for the first time. "What certificate?"
"A marriage certificate? Or is it a driver's license?"
Lin Shen put down the cleaver with trembling hands, pushed the cutting board further in, and then turned around.
"Marriage certificate?"
Xia Wenxi knew that her words seemed too sudden, but she just had an impulse, so she spoke up.
"Hmm, I suddenly have the urge to marry Lin Shen, the guy who makes crayfish for me."
Xia Wenxi put the last grape into her mouth, but frowned after just one chew; it was a bit sour.
He chewed a couple of bites and swallowed, then looked up at Lin Shen and said, "We can get our marriage certificate first. If we don't have time for the wedding right now, we can wait until my summer vacation or Chinese New Year, or we can wait until I graduate. But let's not have children yet. We have to wait until after graduation."
Xia Wenxi wanted to say that she had heard that marriage certificates could earn academic credits, but she didn't know if it was true or not. However, before she could finish speaking, Lin Shen hugged her.
"Little Creek...I..."
Lin Shen was always a strategist and rarely had a moment like this. He choked up for a long time before he could finally speak.
