It was quite late when everything was over. Xia Wenxi went home with her parents, and had the driver take her friends back to school.
While in the car, Ke Shurong was still holding her daughter's arm, carefully checking if she was injured.
"Mom, it's okay. It was just a little red at first, but it's all better now."
“When we heard from the driver today that you went to the police station, your dad and I were terrified. If something like this happens again, you should stay far away from it.”
Ke Shurong held her daughter's hand and gave her some instructions, then seemed to realize it wasn't quite right and added:
"Mom isn't saying you can't help your classmates, but the premise is that you can't get hurt, you know? There are security guards at school, you can call someone for help, or if that doesn't work, you can go far away and call the police, you can't just rush in like that."
"I know, Mom. I just didn't realize it today."
"And another thing! If anything happens, you should contact me and your dad immediately! If the driver hadn't been here today, and you were all alone, were you planning to handle it all by yourself?"
Xia Wenxi smiled sheepishly; she hadn't thought of it for a moment.
“I knew the driver would tell you, of course I need your help. I was just thinking at the police station that if it didn’t work, I would just give my dad’s name.”
Ke Shurong laughed and said, "Giving your dad's name at the police station won't do any good. He's not even in the top ranks in Fancheng. You should go directly to a lawyer. Save Lawyer Song's number in your phone and contact him if you need anything."
"What you're saying is pointless. Giving your name at the police station won't make a difference. We're all law-abiding citizens, and we should respect the law enforcement agencies."
"Fine, fine, did I say I was disrespectful? You just talk too much."
Xia Wenxi smiled and said, "I guess I won't be going to the police station again... right?"
As soon as the family arrived at their doorstep, Xia Wenxi saw a car suddenly appear from behind, braking so abruptly that the wheels made a "squeak" sound on the ground.
"Dad! I heard Xia Wenxi went to the police station. What happened?"
"I'm here! I'm here! I'm out!"
Upon hearing Xia Wensheng's words, Xia Wenxi quickly raised her hand and got out of the car.
Xia looked at her upon hearing the sound, glanced at her up and down to make sure her arms and legs were intact, and frowned as she asked, "What happened?"
Xia Hengyuan waved his hand, "It's nothing. How did you know about this?"
"The contact information for her parents that she left at school is mine. I received a call from their counselor."
"What? They're calling your parents when you're almost graduating?"
"Is this the important point? What exactly happened? Why hasn't anyone said anything yet? I called you all, but no one answered. I just went to the police station. I heard you were back, so I rushed home."
Ke Shurong then checked her pockets and realized she hadn't taken her phone.
"I forgot my phone, you know how I am, I don't like looking at my phone anyway. Xia Hengyuan, where's your phone?"
"My phone?" Xia Hengyuan took it out and looked at it. "It's out of battery and turned off."
Xia Wensheng was almost laughing in exasperation. He had been terrified when he discovered he couldn't get through to any of his family members' phones, thinking Xia Wenxi had done something terribly wrong. He looked at Xia Wenxi and said irritably:
"Your phone is off too?"
Xia Wenxi pursed her lips and said shyly, "I kept the phone on silent during the defense and forgot to turn it back on afterward."
She hadn't checked her phone while she was in the car and hadn't seen Xia Wensheng call her.
Xia Wenxi briefly explained the situation, "That's it, it's nothing serious, and it's not even my business."
Xia Wensheng breathed a sigh of relief after hearing this. "I thought you had done something wrong and got sent to jail. Your parents went to bail you out, but they got arrested too."
"What kind of serious incident could send our whole family to jail? What did the counselor say? How did the counselor find out about this?"
"Your counselor said you went to the police station because of a minor altercation, and the school needed to notify your parents. As for how they found out, I don't know."
Xia glanced at her phone midway through her speech, then gritted her teeth and said:
"Fine, I got caught speeding. I think you all should pay me some money. Some of you didn't bring your phones, some had their phones dead, and some had them on silent and didn't even look at them. You guys didn't even use your phones properly as a modern communication tool!"
"I'm sorry, Da Bao, Mom will definitely remember to bring my phone next time."
Xia Wenxi held up three fingers. "I will definitely remember to turn on the sound."
Xia Wensheng looked at Xia Hengyuan, who straightened his back and said, "I will definitely remember to charge it."
"Remember what you said, I'm leaving."
"Are you going back now? You might as well stay home tonight."
"What a miserable life, I haven't finished my work yet, and I have to go."
Watching her son leave, Ke Shurong suddenly felt a pang of heartache. "Dabao seems to be having a tough time. Honey, why don't you postpone your retirement?"
Xia Hengyuan: "..."
"Dad, Mom, I'm going upstairs now. I'm a little tired today."
Xia Wenxi said goodbye and quickly slipped away. She paid the highest respect to Xia Wensheng for his hard work. As long as she wasn't allowed to go to work, everything was fine.
"Okay, you should go and get some rest. Don't rush to study tomorrow either. Why don't you take a day off?"
Xia Wenxi nodded, "We'll talk about it tomorrow after I get up. If I'm too tired, I won't go. It's the same if I stay home and read books occasionally."
After Xia Wenxi went upstairs, she didn't go straight back to her room, but went to Xiaoyuer's room, thinking that if it wasn't asleep, she would play with it for a while.
As soon as Xia Wenxi entered the house, she glanced at her phone and saw a message from Jin Wenyao. When she got home, she saw in the group chat that they had arrived at school.
Jin Wenyao: [Why did we have to inform my parents about this...? My parents are already on their way and said they'd take me home with them... I originally planned to go back after the graduation ceremony.]
Jin Wenyao: [Ahhh, I'm suddenly leaving, it hurts so much, I'm crying...]
Jin Wenyao told Xia Wenxi in a private message, probably because she was afraid that saying it in the group would put pressure on Li Mengting.
Since your parents are here, why don't you go back first? Your home isn't far, is it? You can come back for the graduation ceremony.
Jin Wenyao: [This is the only way. Jiayi just received a call from home. I wonder if they said something, because she seems a little unhappy...]
Jin Wenyao: [I'm packing my things [crying emoji], I'll miss you all]
I'll miss you too. We'll see each other again in just two weeks, it'll be so soon! Is Jia Yi alright? Did her family say something to her? And how is Meng Ting doing?
Jin Wenyao: [Jiayi has gone to wash up now. She never talks about family matters, so I don't know what's going on. Mengting apologized to us after she came back, and hasn't said anything since. I don't know what she's thinking.]
Jin Wenyao: [Don't worry, the biggest problem has been solved. I'm going to pack my things now. [Bye]]
