Chapter 12
The cell phone alarm was buzzing.
Yao Yingmo sat up wrapped in a quilt, raised his hand to comb his hair that had become static-charged from sleeping, and massaged his scalp to refresh his mind.
She tried to open her eyes and recall.
She remembered why the alarm clock rang so early today, so early that her head was dizzy.
Last time in the supermarket, Aunt Liu told her that a new breakfast shop had opened nearby. The decoration was exquisite and bright, the menu was innovative and unique, and it was always crowded with a group of young people who kept taking pictures with their mobile phones.
She later searched the Internet and became very interested. She decided to wait for Zhou Yu to come and take him to try it.
Unexpectedly, Zhou Yu returned to school early and couldn’t go.
She had intended to postpone the plan, but it seemed she had forgotten to cancel the alarm.
The weather outside was nice, with mild morning sunshine, perfect for an outing. There seemed to be more people walking around below than usual.
Now that I'm awake, I might as well go and check out this breakfast shop by myself.
The neighborhood is busier than usual in the morning. Some people are rushing to work or school, but more often there are retired elders walking in groups of three or five to enjoy the fresh air.
As a result, Yao Yingmo's way out of the community became full of obstacles. Neighbors she met along the way would stop her to say hello and chat with her.
Aunt Liu praised her highly and expressed her high approval of her normal daily routine.
After patiently dealing with every elder, it was already twenty minutes later that I finally walked out of my community.
The newly opened breakfast shop lived up to its reputation. The line waiting for a seat in front of the shop curved back and forth three times at the corner of the street, and people who came one after another also chose to join the line.
There are far more people queuing up to eat in than to take away.
Yao Yingmo walked closer and saw the large areas of cream-colored walls, golden window frames, and lovely hand-painted murals. It was not difficult to understand why everyone wanted to dine in the restaurant.
It’s to take beautiful photos to tell the world that I have visited such a comfortable breakfast shop.
Yao Yingmo didn't have such a need, nor did he want to waste time queuing.
There was no one queuing at the takeout window, so she decisively chose takeout.
It was the right decision, and in less than ten minutes, she was on her way back with her meal.
Walking into the community, Yao Yingmo saw a familiar figure, Mr. Shi.
He was wearing a royal blue hoodie today. The loose cut made him look petite despite his tall stature.
Yao Yingmo looked up subconsciously.
The sky was cloudless and the sun was glaring; it was definitely morning.
It's really strange.
Judging from the direction he was walking, he should have just gone to the community garbage dump to throw away the garbage and was about to go home.
Yao Yingmo stopped and waited for him to come over.
He lowered his head, his face still hidden under the hat and mask, blocking his own sight.
He didn't see her.
As they passed each other, Yao Yingmo cleared his throat and called out to him, "Mr. Shi."
He shuddered, paused for a few seconds, raised his head and looked around, his eyes wide open, until he saw the person who spoke, his eyelids slowly relaxed, and he returned to his half-closed, drowsy look.
There was a greenish dark circle under his eyes, and his usually bright and watery eyes were gray and bloodshot. He looked more like a wandering soul than a living person.
Yao Yingmo softened his tone and said, "Good morning."
"Ms. Yao."
His voice also sounded extremely tired, and it was hard to tell whether his eyes were smiling or hazy.
Yao Yingmo frowned, "Have you had breakfast?"
He seemed not to understand, and stared at her blankly with his head tilted for several seconds. He only came back to his senses before Yao Yingmo repeated the question.
He shook his head very slowly.
Yao Yingmo sighed softly.
She just knew it.
Motioning for him to stretch out his hand, Yao Yingmo took a piece of the plastic bag and hung it on his hand, "This is for you. People need to eat breakfast to wake up."
She bought the extra breakfast on purpose and originally planned to eat it as lunch, but now she used it in advance.
"Thanks."
Listening to his sticky voice, Yao Yingmo moved his mouth, wanting to remind him not to ruin his body. After all, he had fainted a few days ago, and now he was obviously listless due to staying up late and having a disorderly sleep schedule.
Just watching him yawn and rub his eyes, she closed her mouth silently and walked beside him in silence, only speaking out a warning when he was about to hit the corner of the wall.
After finally returning home, Yao Yingmo did not forget to turn around and remind her before entering her own house: "Finish breakfast first and then get some sleep!"
Shi Xuze nodded obediently, watched her enter the room, stood there for two minutes, and then went home with the breakfast he received.
Luo Jiayou was lying on the sofa in the living room, covered with the blanket that Shi Xuze had thrown to him when he left.
The two were so engrossed in discussing the script the day before that they came to their senses at dawn the next day.
The feeling of tiredness was far greater than hunger, so they both decided to skip breakfast and go straight to sleep.
Luo Jiayou fell asleep immediately.
Shi Xuze had no choice but to clean up the messy living room, and went out to take the kitchen waste to the landfill.
He didn't want any traces of small creatures in his home.
Shi Xuze smelled of breakfast.
Luo Jiayou twitched his nose in his sleep, his eyes immediately opened, and he jumped up. "You went out to buy breakfast? That's really unlike you."
Luo Jiayou stood up as he spoke, intending to take the breakfast and help unpack or set the table.
Unexpectedly, Shi Xuze raised his hand high and prevented him from taking it.
"There's no breakfast for you." Shi Xuze said.
Luo Jiayou glared angrily and asked loudly: "Why?"
"Miss Yao only gave me one portion, and she didn't know you were here." Shi Xuze said, "This place seems to be very famous. I heard Sister Chang and Xiao Su mention it before. It should be delicious."
When Luo Jiayou heard that the breakfast came from Miss Yao, he gave up the idea of snatching the food. However, Shi Xuze's tone, which seemed to be describing but was actually showing off, still made him hate him.
"You keep saying there's no share for me, be careful or I'll snatch it away."
"Don't give me that. I asked you before I left, and you said you didn't want to eat."
Shi Xuze was not afraid of Luo Jiayou's threats and sat down to eat.
"I just don't want to eat your canned corn. I didn't say I don't want a normal breakfast, let alone a breakfast this delicious!"
Shi Xuze raised his eyebrows, "Corn kernels are delicious."
The food that most people have at home is usually biscuits and instant noodles, but in order to protect his throat, Shi Xuze tries not to eat these high-fat and high-salt foods.
Instead, there are boxes and boxes of canned corn kernels that can be eaten right out of the box. They are starchy enough to be a staple food, and sweet enough to be a snack.
Shi Xuze likes it very much, but few people can understand him.
Luo Jiayou was one of those who couldn't understand. "Then why don't you eat the corn kernels and give me breakfast?"
Although he liked to eat corn kernels, he would never share the breakfast from Miss Yao with Luo Jiayou.
Shi Xuze ignored his protests and said, "You can continue to sleep. I'm going to sleep after I finish eating."
Luo Jiayou rolled his eyes, but eventually lay back on the sofa and pulled the blanket over his head, thinking out of sight, out of mind. He just muttered, "Stingy guy."
Shi Xuze glanced at him, then looked away and concentrated on eating.
Luo Jiayou snorted, turned over to face the wall, and really closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Next door, Yao Yingmo took a photo of breakfast and sent it to Li Yicheng.
The other party called immediately and told her an unexpected news.
"Ask me to join the creative team?"
"yes."
It is not unheard of to ask the original author to join the creative team of a radio drama, but this is the first time that Yao Yingmo has received such an invitation.
After all, she rarely posts on Weibo for business purposes, rarely leaves a note at the end of her posts, and only communicates with various teams through Li Yicheng.
This made most people outside think that she was a cold and aloof author, but she was happy and relaxed about it and never gave any special explanation.
So almost everyone didn't think she would be willing to get involved in all kinds of trouble.
Joining a radio drama team is definitely one of them.
The invitation from the "Starry Sky" team really surprised her.
"Why did you think of looking for me? Isn't it said that their screenwriter is very good? I should be confident that it won't be changed in any way." Yao Yingmo asked.
"We strive for excellence," Li Yicheng said. "They've said they hope you can help oversee the overall direction after you join, hoping to ensure there are absolutely no deviations."
"That's not necessary..."
After all, "Starry Sky" is her early work. She was still a high school student at the time and was not very worldly-wise. Her view of the world was still somewhat naive.
That is her purest book.
Looking back now, although she is moved by the pure kindness described at the time, she is also very clear that the logic and coherence of some of the plots cannot stand up to scrutiny.
By not making any changes during the adaptation, an opportunity for perfection is wasted.
"Well, I heard it was Hu Guang's idea. He wanted to maintain the atmosphere of the original book."
"But I'm in the serialization period." I can't travel far and I don't have the time.
We can't abandon the new work we're working on just because the old one is being adapted into a radio drama.
It is not advisable to put the cart before the horse.
Li Yicheng was convinced. "That's indeed a problem. I'll help you refuse it."
"good."
Yao Yingmo's meaning was conveyed layer by layer. When Shi Xuze and Luo Jiayou woke up, they saw the missed call from Xiao Su.
I called back and got bad news.
"Teacher Zhaohe refused."
"Just as expected." Luo Jiayou was not surprised. "Teacher Zhaohe never participates in adaptations. We should rely on ourselves."
"Did you tell me the reason?" Shi Xuze asked.
Xiao Su: "Yes, they say Mr. Zhaohe is currently in the serialization phase and hopes to focus on writing."
"Xiao Su, can you please ask me again if it's possible for me to communicate with Teacher Zhao He in person?"
"Why are you so persistent?" Luo Jiayou asked, "Are you not afraid of offending Teacher Zhaohe?"
"It would be better if I could ask politely. I don't think Mr. Zhaohe would even give me a chance to communicate. I still hope to make this drama the best it can be," Shi Xuze said. "Besides, I'm a die-hard fan of Mr. Zhaohe's books."
Thinking of the entire bookcase full of physical books in Shi Xuze's home, Luo Jiayou suddenly understood.
Shi Xuze will not give up unless he personally encounters a setback.
"Okay, then Xiao Su, you can ask him for him." Luo Jiayou said.
