Chapter 52 (Memories)

Chapter 52 (Memories)

"Who are you? Stop meddling in other people's business!" The man overheard the conversation between Yao Yingmo and the doctor and began to struggle again.

The person holding him aside increased his strength, "Little girl, are you okay with getting involved in this mess? You look young, so you should still be in school. Medical expenses are no small burden."

Yao Yingmo is not short of money.

"My parents just passed away," Yao Yingmo said. "I tried to save them."

The air was silent for a moment, and everyone's eyes turned to look over, causing a stinging sensation.

Yao Yingmo exhaled, his fingertips digging into the flesh of his palms. His expression was firm, "I can't let their deaths be meaningless."

If a life that is saved at the cost of one's life dies because of a ridiculous person, then isn't the hero's act equally ridiculous?

"Sir, I have lived here for twenty years, and Grandma Zhou moved here with a baby more than ten years ago. During this period, I have never seen you." Yao Yingmo said.

"If possible, I hope you can maintain an indifferent attitude towards them and not comment on their life or death. Please."

The people around were all moved, and the big brothers who were escorting the man were even in tears, and they increased their strength.

The man let out a cry of pain.

He madly pushed away the people next to him, stood up and walked in front of Yao Yingmo.

"You're fine, I don't care."

He roared in frustration, waving his arms.

Someone pulled Yao Yingmo back two steps.

"I'll give them all to you to raise! If they ask me for money in the future, I won't give them a penny."

After saying that, he walked away. His footsteps were loud, but his back looked like he was fleeing in panic.

"What a sin."

Grandma Yang had just finished her examination and was pushed over by her daughter in a wheelchair to watch the fun. She only heard the second half, but it was enough to understand what happened.

"If he had given her money, why would Zhou have to go out and do odd jobs to raise the child? She worked three jobs by herself to raise the child, and this guy actually has the nerve to say it's his credit."

Most of the family members who were watching the scene had rushed back from other places. They did not understand the situation, so after hearing the man's last words, those who were easily influenced showed disapproval towards Yao Yingmo.

They didn't actually want to deny Yao Yingmo, they just felt that Yao Yingmo was not thoughtful enough and was eager to find a burden for himself.

Granny Yang couldn't stand this attitude, so she pretended to curse and explain.

Sure enough, the disapproval on those people's faces disappeared.

After all, if you think about it a little, you will know what a man who talks about money all the time is really thinking about.

Everyone despised him.

"Okay, okay, let's all go. Are the elders in your family okay?" Grandma Yang waved her hand to drive away the group of onlookers.

All the troublemakers have left, what are you still standing here for?

Everyone woke up as if from a dream and hurried back to their families.

Granny Yang was a step slower than the others. Before leaving, she left a message: "I live downstairs from you. Remember to come find me if you have any problems."

Yao Yingmo stayed with Zhou Yu by the bedside until the doctor announced that the treatment was complete and they just had to wait for Grandma Zhou to wake up. Then she patted Zhou Yu's shoulder and motioned him to look up.

Zhou Yu didn't look up.

Yao Yingmo felt the man's shoulders trembling. She had no choice but to squat down. She saw Zhou Yu's face was covered with tears, his mouth kept moving, and his voice was as soft as a mosquito's.

Yao Yingmo put his ear closer to hear clearly that he was apologizing, apologizing continuously.

She paused and took out a few sheets of paper from her bag and handed them to him.

She didn't open her mouth to comfort him, nor did she say anything, for she was afraid that she would choke up if she opened her mouth.

Maybe she really needed to hear "I'm sorry", but it didn't seem right for the child to say it.

"Do you have a cell phone?"

Zhou Yu nodded.

Yao Yingmo opened his phone and added the two as friends.

"I'm going to take care of my family's affairs first. If grandma wakes up, please contact me. Don't worry, what I just said is true."

Death always leaves behind many issues, not just cremation and burial.

Fortunately, Li Yicheng and her parents rushed over after hearing the news, so Yao Yingmo was able to barely cope with the sudden bombardment of information.

After the funeral arrangements were preliminarily planned, Grandma Zhou finally woke up the next night and was moved to a general ward.

Yao Yingmo kept her word. When she rushed back to the hospital after receiving the news from Zhou Yu, the first thing she did was to pay all the medical expenses and hospitalization fees so far.

When she arrived at the ward, the first thing Grandma Zhou said to her was an apology.

Yao Yingmo did not stop her, just as she did not stop Zhou Yu. They needed to talk it out, and she needed to hear it so that this matter would not become a knot in their hearts.

She listened carefully before sitting down on the accompanying chair. "Grandma Zhou, I just talked to the doctor. Your condition is no longer serious. It's just that because of your age, you need to be observed for two more days before you can be discharged."

"I'm fine, but I'd like you to pay for the hospitalization for the next two days," Grandma Zhou said. "Give me some time and I'll pay you back."

Grandma Zhou, who had just woken up, actually knew about the medical expenses.

Yao Yingmo looked at Zhou Yu, who was packing mushrooms next to him, in surprise.

When a junior high school student woke up after his family member suffered an accident, the first thing he did was not to cry bitterly, but to clearly describe everything that happened during this period.

His performance makes people look up to him, but it is hard to bear to think about the reasons behind his development.

What Yao Yingmo wanted to talk to Grandma Zhou about was also related to this.

"Grandma Zhou, after you are discharged from the hospital, would you like to go back to Shoucheng with Xiaoyu?"

Zhou Yu immediately looked up.

Yao Yingmo thought inappropriately that this seemed to be the first time she saw this mushroom raise its head.

"That's not good." Grandma Zhou shook her head and refused.

Yao Yingmo: "Xiaoyu's father said something the other day. I'm really worried about your safety."

She suspected the fire was not an accident, but without evidence, it was just a suspicion.

"Besides, after the fire, the house cannot be lived in while it is being cleaned up. You can just treat it as a trip to the capital. It's not too late to come back once you are sure it is safe."

"If you were already working, grandma would agree to your request." Grandma Zhou took Yao Yingmo's hand, "but you're still in college. If grandma and Xiaoyu go with you, it will be a burden on you. We've already received a lot of help from your family."

Yao Yingmo: "I dare to say this because I can do it."

"I have my own place in the capital, and I've saved some money from my part-time job, so it's no problem for you to come and visit for two months. Summer vacation is coming soon, so you and Xiaoyu can come together."

Grandma Zhou was still hesitating. Yao Yingmo thought about it and turned to play the emotional card.

"Just think of it as you coming to keep me company. I'm alone now."

As he spoke, his vision blurred uncontrollably. Yao Yingmo blinked quickly, forcing a smile.

Needing companionship wasn't just an excuse for wanting to take them away. It was her true feelings.

When she set out on the journey to the capital alone again, no one was waiting for her at home.

She wasn't sure if she could bear this feeling of loss.

Of course Zhou Yu and Grandma Zhou could not replace her parents, but at least there would be someone in her family.

Switching all of a sudden from rational analysis to inner confession, the elder, who already felt guilty and soft-hearted, could no longer say no.

So when Yao Yingmo returned to the capital again, he had a grandmother and a younger brother by his side.

That summer, she took a break from writing new articles at the editor's request. So, apart from revising the manuscript for publication, she spent her time accompanying the two of them on their tours of the capital.

Two months later, Grandma Zhou went back, saying that she had a lot of things to deal with in her hometown.

She didn't say it explicitly, and Yao Yingmo didn't ask. But the determination in her eyes was so easy to understand. Yao Yingmo knew he couldn't stop her, so he changed the emergency contact on her phone to himself and let her go.

Zhou Yu took the initiative to choose to stay.

Although he had obvious deficiencies in social aspects, he seemed to be well aware of his academic strengths. After Yao Yingmo deliberately mentioned the educational resources of the capital, he took the initiative to ask to stay.

Yao Yingmo was stunned for only three seconds before nodding in agreement.

Although she was saying this to Grandma Zhou, the effect would be the same if Zhou Yu took the initiative to ask for it.

After staying at Yao Yingmo's house for two months, Grandma Zhou has already understood Yao Yingmo's work and financial resources, and no longer worries that Yao Yingmo will affect his own life in order to take care of them.

After confirming Zhou Yu's wishes, she also agreed to let Yao Yingmo help him transfer to a private school in the capital.

Yao Yingmo had two options for Zhou Yu's schooling: both private, one requiring transfer fees and the other requiring entrance through a test. The former, typically attended by prominent politicians and businessmen preparing to send their children abroad, was unsuitable for Zhou Yu's personality, and the tuition was a bit daunting for her. The latter, on the other hand, prioritized merit over skill.

She spoke frankly with Zhou Yu, "I hope you can take the transfer exam; that school might be a better fit for you. But if there's really no other option, I can still afford the other school. I just have to speed up my writing."

"I will pass the exam." Zhou Yu answered confidently.

After studying hard in the room for a week, Zhou Yu was admitted.

It was not until he sent Grandma Zhou, who was finally relieved, back to her hometown that Yao Yingmo heard from Zhou Yu why he had fought so hard.

He said something like, "I'll pay you back as soon as I grow up."

Yao Yingmo: "It's good that you have this intention, but you can pay it back slowly. There's no need to rush."

Zhou Yu: "Yes."

"...You should study hard first."

"Of course I will."

Making resolutions in youth only requires courage, not knowledge.

Yao Yingmo accepted his offer and didn't pour cold water on it, but she didn't really think he could pull it off. After all, according to Zhou Yu's calculations, it was no small sum. Yao Yingmo had fame and numerous sold IPs to back him up, but Zhou Yu didn't. It would be difficult for him to repay the money while still a fledgling.

It was not until Zhou Yu was admitted to high school and paid his own tuition with a scholarship that Yao Yingmo slowly felt that he might be able to do it.

But Yao Yingmo didn't care about this issue.

What really made her happy was that after two years of getting along and going back to see Grandma Zhou together every winter and summer vacation, Zhou Yu finally stopped being reserved with her and was even willing to share some trivialities of school life with her.

Although the teachers often wanted to arrange for him to participate in competitions or suggested that he learn things in advance, and he rarely had topics to talk about with his classmates, that was just his personality and Yao Yingmo could understand it.

Being able to take the initiative to talk to her more is a big improvement.

Just when she and Zhou Yu thought their lives were back on track, Yao Yingmo, as Grandma Zhou's emergency contact, received a call.
