Chapter 507: Nightmare

Chapter 507: Nightmare

Fang Li felt that she was conscious, but when she wanted to wake up, she found herself deeply trapped and couldn't get out.

Han Xi's figure flickered in the shadows deep in the woods, and the sound of footsteps was heard in his ears, as if countless pairs of eyes were staring at him in the dark.

She wanted to shout, but her throat seemed to be blocked. She could only watch the shadow getting closer and closer until it completely swallowed her up.

“Hmm…”

A suppressed groan came out of her throat, and Fang Li suddenly opened her eyes!

The strands of hair on his forehead were soaked with cold sweat, sticking to his skin and making him feel bone-chilled.

Her chest was heaving violently, and her fingertips were still trembling slightly. It took her a while to realize that she was lying on the soft bed in the bedroom.

The curtains were drawn tightly, and the room was dark. The electronic clock on the bedside showed 10:58. It turned out that it was almost noon the next day.

She propped herself up and sat up. It felt like all the strength in her body had been drained away, and even her head ached slightly.

Just as I lifted the quilt and was about to get out of bed, I heard a slight noise downstairs, followed by footsteps getting closer and closer, and then there was a knock on the door.

"Fruit Po? Are you awake?"

Fang Yun's voice came through the door, with a hint of subtle worry, "I heard the noise. I made some millet porridge for you. It's warm. Would you like to have some first?"

The door was pushed open and Fang Yun walked in carrying a small tray.

The millet porridge in the white porcelain bowl above was steaming, and next to the tray lay a tender poached egg and a small dish of pickles.

She put the bowl on the bedside table and saw the sweat on Fang Li's forehead, and the worry in her eyes became even more intense.

"Why did you sleep so long today?"

Fang Yun reached out and touched Fang Li's forehead. The temperature of his fingertips was warm. "You don't have a fever, why do you look so bad? Did you have a nightmare?"

Fang Li avoided her mother's hand, reached out and took two pieces of paper from the bedside to wipe the sweat from her forehead, her voice still a little hoarse: "It's okay, I just slept a little deeply."

"...drowsiness and dreaminess are common in early pregnancy."

Fang Yun looked at her worriedly. Seeing her sit up, he quickly stuffed a pillow behind her back and said, "Be careful in the first few months. Tell mom if you feel uncomfortable. Drink some hot porridge first to fill your stomach."

"Well, thank you, Mom."

Fang Li picked up the spoon and drank the porridge in small sips.

The millet was cooked until soft and sticky, with a faint rice aroma, but my stomach felt like it was filled with a stone. After just a few sips, the familiar feeling of nausea suddenly came up again.

She turned her head, covered her mouth and started coughing violently. The next moment, she threw off the quilt, jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. As soon as she entered, she heard the sound of vomiting. She vomited out all the porridge she had just swallowed.

"You were feeling much better the past two days, why are you vomiting again?"

Fang Yun quickly chased after her, took out a tissue to wipe her mouth, and patted her back to help her breathe. His brows were twisted into knots, "Vomiting like this all the time is not a solution. Why don't you ask Grandpa He? Their Chinese medicine should have a way to regulate it and make you feel less uncomfortable."

"......Need not."

Fang Li shook her head, her nausea subsiding. She said in a hoarse voice, "It's probably because I just woke up and I'm a little uncomfortable. And the weather today is so gloomy and uncomfortable."

Fang Yun followed her gaze and looked out the window. The lead-gray clouds were so low that they seemed within reach. The wind blew the dead leaves around downstairs, making a whirring sound.

The Chinese New Year is coming soon, and no one expected the situation to change suddenly at this time.

"The weather forecast says there will be snow today, and it will probably start to fall in the evening."

Fang Yun helped Fang Li back to bed and gathered the quilt for her. "The dinner party is still several hours away. You lie down for a while. I'll warm the porridge downstairs. Call me when you're ready."

Fang Li nodded in response, watched her mother's figure disappear at the door, and gently closed the door.

The room was quiet again, but she was no longer sleepy.

The aftermath of the nightmare had not yet dissipated, and the sky outside the window seemed to confirm some ominous premonition, making her heart heavy.

She picked up her phone, opened the news app and flipped through it. Apart from the gossip about Song Yuchen, the rest were mostly irrelevant entertainment news.

Fang Li was flipping through the pages out of boredom. Suddenly, her finger paused on the screen. She couldn't help herself and clicked on the dialog box with Han Xi.

The last message he sent was a few days ago, in which he said, "Take care of yourself and wait for me to come back." There has been no further news since then.

I don’t know how he is doing now.

Fang Li stared at the line of words for a long time, but in the end she didn't type a single word and walked out.

When the call was made to Wen Yang, the other end picked up almost instantly.

"Hey, at this hour you're either asleep or out and about, what made you think of calling me?"

Wen Yang's voice was filled with his usual playful tone, and the sound of keyboard tapping could be heard in the background. "I was just about to send you a message when you called. We really are in tune with each other."

Fang Li smiled. Wen Yang's joking voice finally made her depressed mood better.

"What are you busy with? How is the company going?"

"What do you think? Of course I'm busy with the trivial matters assigned by Boss Xu. As for the company, everything is almost done. You said yesterday that you would let the employees go home early for the New Year. I counted and most of them can leave this afternoon. The few remaining people who are finishing up will leave early tomorrow morning."

"Well, thank you for your hard work."

Fang Li leaned against the headboard, listening to Wen Yang's clear voice. The gloom in her heart became lighter and lighter. "Have all the year-end bonuses been distributed? And the New Year's gifts for the family? Ask the administration department to count them all and make sure no one is left out."

"Don't worry, everything has been arranged."

Wen Yang laughed. "With all the fanfare you've put up, someone who didn't know would think the company was going public. The employees are all praising you in the group chat, saying it's much better to have a soft-hearted boss than one who just makes empty promises."

"Don't give me that."

Fang Li couldn't help but laugh. "Keeping you guys here at the company and making you work overtime during the New Year, when your families and the media come to me to settle the score, that's not worth it."

"Tsk tsk, it turns out it's all for myself."

Wen Yang deliberately dragged out his words, "But honestly, bosses like you are rare these days. I just heard the girl at the front desk talking to her mom on the phone, saying she could go home two days early this year. She was so happy."

“It’s not easy for everyone all year round.”

Fang Li looked out the window and said in a lighter tone, "Go back early and have a lively New Year celebration. It's better than anything else. Even if the company is busy, these two days won't make a difference."

"Okay, then I'll leave early this afternoon too?" Wen Yang asked tentatively.

"Go away and sign the last batch of documents before you leave."

Fang Li scolded with a smile, "By the way, what are your plans for the New Year this year?"

It is no exaggeration to say that the relationship between Wen Yang and his family is at a freezing point. Ever since Wen Tao was thrown to Mamba by Lin Mo, the Wen family thought that Wen Tao was really sold by a loan shark.

In their understanding, the money owed by Wen Tao has not been repaid yet. They are anxious for Wen Tao's comfort but dare not call the police.

These days, I completely hate Wen Yang.

The old couple didn't even tell Wen Yang about selling their house and moving.

It turned out that Yu Tian's people had been secretly keeping an eye on the Wen family, and when they noticed it, they told Wen Yang about it.

Wen Yang has also completely given up on his parents.

As long as they're okay, whatever.

"Of course I'm spending the New Year with Yu Tian. He's not going back to Haicheng this year and is planning to have hot pot with a few of his friends at the company. I'm going to join in the fun as a family member."
