Chapter 51 Sharing a table?
The name of the shop is Xingfu Xiaochao, and it is located in a small courtyard at the end of the alley.
The courtyard is square, with two main rooms used as private rooms, a side room as a kitchen, and a temporary simple house on the left side of the entrance as a bathroom.
In addition to the two private rooms, there are more than a dozen tables in the yard. It is not dinner time yet, but the tables are already full. The old housekeeper and two older ladies are busy greeting customers.
A half-grown child ran out carrying two pots of tea. Wen Yang quickly grabbed him and said, "Excuse me, is there any room?"
The child glanced at her and said quickly, "No seats left. They just filled up. You'll have to wait a while."
"How long do we have to wait?" Wen Yang was still asking when the child had already run off busily.
The two looked around, and no one noticed that an old man in the corner had been looking at them for a long time.
After a moment, he waved behind him, and a young man came over and whispered something to him.
The man nodded and walked towards this side.
"What should I do? Should I wait?"
Fang Li glanced around and said, "Wait, we're already here."
The two walked towards the waiting area at the door and just as they sat down, a young man who looked to be in his twenties suddenly came over.
"Hello, there's only one elder of my family at that table. If you two don't mind, you can go over and share the table."
Fang Li was puzzled and looked in the direction the man was pointing.
In the corner near the wall, a white-haired old man was sitting at a square table. His eyes were fixed on this side, and when he saw her, he raised his hand and waved.
Fang Li tugged at Wen Yang beside her, "Do you want to go?"
"They've invited me, why not go?" Wen Yang stood up and said, "Let's go. I'll starve to death if I wait any longer."
The man walked in front, and the two of them walked towards the table at the wall.
When they got closer, Fang Li was the first to bow and nod to the old man, expressing her gratitude: "Sorry to bother you."
The old man was wearing a gray polo shirt with the buttons buttoned up to the collar. His hair was neatly combed and his face had few wrinkles, making it difficult to tell his exact age.
He sat behind a square table, his knees slightly apart, his back straight, his stern face expressionless, his sharp eyes scrutinizing him with a hint of suspicion.
He stared at Fang Li for a long time, his eyes scanning her from top to bottom without any expression. After a while, his expression relaxed and he nodded with a smile.
"Yeah, not bad."
Fang Li didn't understand what was going on, and Wen Yang beside her was also confused. The two of them could only stand there and maintain a polite yet awkward smile.
"Sit down, what are you standing for?"
The two of them smiled and sat down somewhat awkwardly.
"You two girls seem to get along pretty well. I'm having dinner here alone and I'm feeling a bit lonely, so I asked someone to call you over. Do you mind having dinner with an old man like me?"
Faced with the old man's frank response, the two men hurriedly shook their heads.
"If it weren't for you, we don't know how long we would have to wait. Why would I mind if I can't thank you in time?"
A subtle smile appeared in Fang Li's beautiful eyes. She picked up the teapot on the table and added tea to his bowl. The old man looked at her with a satisfied chuckle in his eyes.
"You are a sensible girl."
Soon the proprietress came over to take our order.
After ordering the dishes, a few of them chatted casually.
Wen Yang said, "I didn't expect you to like fried golden crisps. Fang Li likes them too. I brought our local specialties to Hangzhou before, and she started to miss them after trying them once. She always asks me to bring them back home."
The old man laughed and said, "Not many people like to eat this. People here are tired of it and few of them want to eat it. This girl is really good and suits Grandpa's appetite."
"Yeah, Grandpa, let me tell you, there were so many boys in our school who liked her back then, but she was so stubborn that she found a crooked tree and almost hanged herself."
Fang Li secretly poked Wen Yang with a finger and whispered without moving her lips, "Don't talk nonsense."
The old man listened carefully and asked, "What crooked tree? Does Li Ya have someone she likes?"
"No, you just listened to her nonsense."
Her thigh was twisted tightly, and Wen Yang's smile was uglier than crying: "Yes, yes, I was talking nonsense, there is no such thing as a crooked tree, she is... she is still single."
"Yeah."
The old man turned his gaze meaningfully to Fang Li opposite him. His eyes seemed to relax a little, and the corners of his mouth rose a few degrees.
"Girl, I haven't had time to ask, where are you from?"
Fang Li: "I'm from Haicheng, went to university in Hangzhou, and now I'm planning to start my own studio in Beijing."
"Oh, what a coincidence."
"skillful?"
The old man smiled, a look of profoundness flashing across his eyes, and said, "It's nothing. Grandpa just feels that you and I are really destined to be together. Maybe you don't know this, but Grandpa has a very handsome grandson."
Wen Yang was eating when he suddenly looked at Fang Li.
Fang Li did the same. She just stretched out her chopsticks to pick up some food, but she froze in mid-air.
"My grandson has been liking nothing but girls from Haicheng for so many years. Grandpa is worried about this. What do you think? Would you like to consider becoming my grandson's daughter-in-law?"
Fang Li: “….”
Wen Yang: “…Uh, this…”
The two of them were in a stalemate, not knowing how to respond to the old man's words, when the next moment a bright voice came from the entrance of the alley.
"Is this the one? It doesn't look very good. Why are there so many people?"
The yard was already a bit noisy, but this sound somehow got in and seemed very abrupt. Everyone who was eating looked towards the gate.
The three people in the corner couldn't help but frown.
Fang Li and Wen Yang both turned around and looked over. Soon, two graceful and beautiful young figures walked in from the courtyard gate.
One of them was wearing a colorful striped suspender skirt with a black Gi shoulder bag hanging diagonally on her chest. Her long hair was braided into a side braid and placed on her chest, which was fashionable and playful.
The woman she was holding was wearing an apricot-pink short top with a pearlescent A-line long skirt. The hem of the skirt was embroidered with flowers and leaves of the same color. She wore a wide-brimmed sun hat on her head, and sunglasses covered most of her face. The rest was hidden behind a black mask. It was obvious that she was trying to hide.
The yard was packed with people, and the proprietress and her family were busy moving around.
After entering the yard, the woman raised her head and looked at the yard. Although she couldn't see anything, it was not difficult to imagine from her slightly shivering hands and feet that the expression on her face at the moment must be a little disgusted.
A sharp gleam flashed across the old man's eyes, but quickly disappeared, and he lowered his head and continued eating.
"Fang Li........"
"Yeah, I see."
Fang Li's voice was obviously gloomy and cold, and she looked indifferently at the two young women not far away.
