Zhou Man was lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Perhaps because she had cried a lot during the day, even though she was sad deep down inside, she couldn't shed a tear.
The surroundings were still familiar. The bed she lay on was equivalent to the down payment for an average family's house. The decoration of her entire room probably cost hundreds of millions. This room, which belonged to her alone, she had almost lost. The only reason it was still hers was because Shi Miao didn't intend to fight with her for it.
Thinking of this, Zhou Man's heart was pierced by countless needles, and she felt so painful that she wanted to die. Had she fallen to the point of being abandoned by Shi Miao?
Just a day ago, she was the high and mighty eldest daughter of the Zhou family, a princess held in the palm of everyone's hand. From today on, the halo around her would be transferred to Shi Miao.
A real daughter, a fake daughter. A single word, yet a world of difference. She was still here because of her father and brother's favoritism. But even she wasn't sure how long this favoritism would last. Even her father, who loved her most, hadn't given in after her mother's harsh threats, ready to reveal her and Shi Miao's life story to the public?
Why did Shi Miao appear? Perhaps she was born to be her nemesis, so when she heard this name, she felt a trembling and disgust from the depths of her soul.
It would be better if Shi Miao wasn't here.
Zhou Man bit her lower lip tightly.
Her uncle Zheng Jiaming, whom she had finally met, was taken to the police station because of a report from the two uncles of the Wen family. She was not sure whether he would confess her affair.
Thinking of this possibility, Zhou Man became even more frightened. She had already lost enough.
"Knock knock knock..." There was a knock on the door.
Zhou Man was stunned for a moment, then she opened the small cabinet next to the bed, took out a small bottle from it, and dripped a drop into her eyes. The liquid in the bottle made her tears fall on the spot. She put the bottle away, stepped on the carpet, and opened the door.
Father Zhou Liheng's figure flashed in from outside the house. He closed the door and looked at her with the same concern and love as always.
"Manman, are you crying?"
Zhou Man shook her head and lowered her head. "I'm not crying. I was just standing by the window and the wind made my eyes hurt. Dad, don't worry about me. It's late. Go and get some rest."
When Zhou Liheng looked into her eyes, he knew that she must have cried, but she refused to admit it because she didn't want him to worry about her.
"Don't be afraid, Manman. Your uncle will take care of everything."
He had a lot of evidence against Zheng Jiaming, and the words he used to expose him were enough to get him sentenced to life imprisonment. Originally, he kept Zheng Jiaming around so that he could protect Manman and become a stab in her back.
Zheng Jiaming knew what was going on, so he wouldn't say anything. If he cooperated, Zhou Liheng would find a way to get him out as soon as possible and compensate him later.
Zhou Man's eyes widened involuntarily, her voice choking with sobs. "Dad, I, I'm actually a bad kid. After Miaomiao showed up, my uncles and the others immediately favored her. I couldn't help but feel jealous of her."
"I was wrong. I feel sorry for her. I shouldn't be jealous of her. My mother did such a bad thing... I should make it up to her."
Seeing her weeping, Zhou Liheng couldn't help but recall Tao Xiaran crying before him, saying she didn't want to be separated from her biological daughter. His heart ached even more. "Manman, your mother...she's not a bad person."
Zhou Man heard the deep affection in her father's words, and a vague guess emerged in her mind: Dad, the person you truly love is her biological mother Tao Xia Ran?
Did he already know that she wasn't his biological daughter? Was that why he treated her so well all these years simply out of pure love for her?
"But they all say that my mother is a wicked person who kidnapped and abandoned her child."
Zhou Liheng's face showed pain, "I know she is not, she did all this for me."
Zhou Man looked a little dazed, "So Mom is really not a bad person?"
"Right!" Zhou Liheng said seriously, "Don't blame her. If even you don't understand her, she must be so heartbroken."
Zhou Man looked at him timidly, "Dad, can I continue to call you dad from now on?"
"Of course! In my heart, I wish you were Xia Ran and I's daughter."
This gave Zhou Man a lot of peace of mind. Great! She didn't have to worry about being kicked out.
"Don't worry about the banquet on February 12th. Dad will make all the arrangements for you."
Zhou Liheng was unwilling to let Shi Miao come back. Before the child was even born, he had already been nearly killed. Over the years, the Zhou family had been able to prosper because of Manman's good fortune.
But Aying didn't understand. Just because of that thin blood relationship, she was determined to welcome Shi Miao into the family.
Zhou Man said sweetly, "Miao Miao is your biological daughter after all, and she's suffered a lot over the years. Even if you don't like her, you have to be nice to her. Otherwise, I'm afraid Mom will quarrel with you. It doesn't matter if I suffer a little, as long as this family can be as happy and peaceful as before."
Zhou Liheng sighed deeply. His Manman was still so sensible and considerate.
…
Zhou Liheng pushed a pile of gold bars in front of an old man in a black robe. The old man looked to be over seventy years old, with skin wrinkled like tree bark and completely white hair, but his eyes were as sharp as an eagle.
"I hope that on February 12th, you can cast a spell on my wife that will put her in a coma for more than a month."
