Falling leaves startle deer

Falling leaves startle deer

Today, there seemed to be more than twice as many guards in the Canggu Temple. Although Lu Yixin was puzzled, she still had a vague feeling that something big was about to happen.

The doors to the council hall were tightly shut, and six guards stood outside, all with stern expressions. When they saw Lu Yixin arrive, they managed a forced smile as a greeting.

Not knowing when the Forest King would appear, Lu Yixin sat down to the side, cast a small spell to keep the food box warm, and quietly waited for the Forest King.

After an unknown amount of time, Lu Yixin was nodding incessantly outside like a chick pecking at rice, almost falling asleep, when she finally heard a noisy commotion.

She rubbed her eyes, picked up the food box, and stepped forward. "Grandpa."

But the first person to come out was not Sen Wang, but a woman that Lu Yixin had never seen before.

The woman was stunningly beautiful, with a cinnabar dot between her brows and a vermilion mark trailing at the corner of her eye. Her features were striking and elegant. Her hair was styled in a high bun, upon which perched a golden nine-tailed phoenix. She was incredibly tall, dressed in a magnificent golden gown that trailed on the ground, like a proud phoenix.

Unfortunately, she seemed extremely angry at the moment, her expression was sinister and unfriendly, and her eyes twitched slightly.

Lu Yixin was stunned by her gaze, standing there holding the food box. The woman, seemingly used to such stares, merely glanced at her sideways, snorted coldly, and said, "You're a maid here, aren't you? Put this away carefully, and don't let me see it again!"

After the woman finished speaking, she threw a stack of documents heavily into Lu Yixin's arms. She didn't have time to catch them all, and most of the documents fell to the ground. The sharp edges grazed her eyes, leaving a bloody mark below.

The crimson hue was glaringly bright, and Shen Qiexing's eyes darkened completely as he clenched his fists under his sleeves.

This is the ruler of the Phoenix Clan. What is she doing here in the Forest Clan?

It seems there was a dispute between them and the Forest King. This is not surprising, as the four major clans have always had a bad relationship. Many issues do not actually require such a big fuss, but for the sake of face, they have to escalate small matters into big ones and even start a war.

It doesn't matter. If the Phoenix Clan really starts fighting the Forest Clan, it will actually make things easier for him.

But that idiot Lu Yixin actually squatted down and picked them all up!

"Ah, okay,"

Lu Yixin, carrying a food box in one hand and documents in the other, looked at her somewhat awkwardly, "Where should I take this?"

Shen Qiexing almost burst out laughing.

He realized that the little deer fairy wasn't stupid, just naturally naive.

"You didn't hear a single word I just said!" the woman laughed angrily. "If all the people of your Sen tribe are like this, then I think there's no need for us to continue our conversation!"

What does she mean by that? Isn't she a member of the Sen tribe?

Lu Yixin frowned and raised her voice slightly: "My lord, although I do not know who you are, it is an honor for Mi Tianze to have you here today. However, what you just said was really rude. I hope you can apologize to me."

"I apologize to you?" the woman sneered. "What are you?!"

“I am a member of the Forest King’s retinue, Lu Yixin.”

When someone mentioned the city gate tower to her, she replied with "hip bone."

Her sudden self-introduction made the woman glare at her fiercely. Not to be outdone, she looked back while holding her documents and food box.

Just as the two sides were deadlocked, an old voice suddenly came from inside the council hall.

"Xin Xin, this is a distinguished guest of our Sen clan. You must not be rude." King Sen, leaning on his cane, slowly walked out.

He had a kind and gentle face, with a long, snow-white beard. Although his body was hunched over, he showed no sign of fear.

No one could have imagined that such an old man would commit such a heinous act as the massacre of his entire clan.

Shen Qiexing used all his strength to suppress the hatred in his heart and control himself from rushing forward to attack.

She was the one who was rude first!

Lu Yixin bit her lower lip and looked at Sen Wang with some grievance, but a look from Sen Wang stopped her from saying what she was about to say.

It was a look of helplessness and self-reproach.

He blamed himself for failing to strengthen the Sen tribe, which had suffered such humiliation.

"This is the current ruler of the Phoenix Clan, the Divine Lord Phoenix Maiden."

He chuckled and stroked Lu Yixin's long hair, then nodded slightly to the Phoenix Maiden: "This is my little granddaughter. I've raised her since she was a baby. She's never seen anyone from the Phoenix Clan before. Please don't take offense, Divine Lord."

His words were ostensibly an apology to the Phoenix Maiden, but in reality, they were meant to show her how high Lu Yixin's status was in the Sen Clan. Shen Qiexing gave Lu Yixin a deep look, wondering what her expression would be when he fought against the Sen Clan in the future.

He dared not get too close to the Phoenix Maiden, fearing she would sense his presence, and could only watch them from afar.

"It was my poor eyesight that I did not recognize the Divine Lord. I hope the Divine Lord will forgive me." Lu Yixin swallowed her anger and bowed to the Phoenix Maiden.

The Phoenix Maiden was giving the Forest King face, or perhaps she didn't want to lower herself to a conflict with a junior. She simply ignored him, flicked her sleeve, and turned to walk away.

Sen Wang took the food box and documents from Lu Yixin and told her to go back first.

After the Forest King and Phoenix Girl had gone far away, Lu Yixin looked around and, seeing that no one was around, punched and kicked in the air for a while. She punched the wall and hissed in pain for a while before walking away indignantly.

Seeing that she wanted to go home, Shen Qiexing flicked a faint blue light around his fingertip. The blue light then pierced and attached itself to the Forest King before disappearing without a trace.

He had to get back before Lu Yixin and finish making the desserts, otherwise it would be difficult to explain.

Although she believed his casual lie, he had kept many things from her after all, and out of conscience, he decided to keep his promise for the time being.

Shen Qiexing sighed and left the Canggu Temple.

"I'm so angry! I'm so angry! I'm so angry!" Lu Yixin stomped her feet the whole way, wishing she could stomp a hole in the ground and lie down inside it.

Close your eyes peacefully.

Even a god-king of the Phoenix Clan cannot speak of the Forest Clan like that!

Wait, what is the Phoenix Clan?

Lu Yixin stopped and pondered the question seriously. She vaguely remembered that Senwang had mentioned this to her, but she couldn't quite recall it.

It seems that besides the Forest Clan, there are three other clans in different territories on this continent, one of which appears to be the Phoenix Clan.

What were the other two again?

Having thought about it all the way here without finding a solution, Lu Yixin decided to stop torturing herself and give up on answering the question.

The fragrance of peach blossoms wafted from the small courtyard, and Lu Yixin instantly forgot all her unpleasantness from earlier, happily running back to the courtyard.

"God, what did you make? It smells so good!"

“I noticed you liked peach blossom pastries last time, so I picked some and made some shortbread cookies with fillings.”

Shen Qiexing smiled and obediently handed the bowl and plate to Lu Yixin.

Good heavens! To save time, he simply plucked all the peach tree branches off the branches, stripped off all the peach blossoms, and threw the branches into the stove to burn.

Hopefully she won't find out that the area in front of the door is completely bald.

The shortbread was only about half the size of a teacup. Lu Yixin threw them into her mouth one after another, her eyes squinting with happiness.

"Delicious! Shen Qiexing, you're so virtuous!"

Shen Qiexing's lips twitched...

He'll just take it as a compliment.

Shen Qiexing leaned against the window, watching her enjoy her meal, and couldn't help but feel glad that he had made the right choice this time.

"Speaking of which, do you know which four clans are the four major clans?" Lu Yixin stopped eating and suddenly asked this question.

Why would she suddenly think of asking this?

No, wait, how come she doesn't even know this!

Sometimes, Shen Qiexing really wanted to lift her skull to see what was inside.

Despite his sighs, he still told Lu Yixin everything.

“I see. I’ve never seen a bird before,” she said, gazing longingly at a point in the sky. “Being able to fly must be a very happy thing.”

"And dragons? I've rarely heard of them. It's like dragons only exist in stories."

Lu Yixin stretched out her finger and drew circles in the air, "It can fly through the clouds and overturn the sea, it must be very powerful."

"Not impressive at all."

Shen Qiexing lazily rested his chin on his hand, his voice devoid of any emotion.

If he were truly so powerful, how come he's the only one left?

"You know so much," Lu Yixin said, looking at him with some surprise. "How many years have you been cultivating?"

"I'm a bit older than you, about a thousand years."

Shen Qiexing did not lie to her about this. When the dragon clan was slaughtered, he was still young and a child. He was hastily hidden in a secret chamber in the deep sea by the Xuanhai Dragon God, who then placed a seal on the chamber for ten years.

During these ten years, he took the opportunity to go into seclusion and cultivate diligently. Although he did not know why his cultivation progress was extremely slow, he still cultivated day after day without interruption. He thought that he would receive praise from the Xuanhai Dragon God after he came out of seclusion, but little did he know that what awaited him was a disaster that would wipe out his clan.

He was just a child at the time, yet he suffered this terrible fate.

No one could empathize with his despair at that time, not even himself now.

"I only have three hundred years of cultivation, so I should call you brother."

Lu Yixin looked at him, a smile playing on her lips, "Brother Qiexing."

Suddenly, a warm breeze rushed in, lifting her fine hair. The orange sunset shone through the window lattice and into her eyes, like two ponds filled with scattered gold.

Shen Qiexing's heart felt like it was covered in dandelion fluff, an itch that instantly spread throughout his body. He scratched the back of his hand under the table, but he could never quite hit the spot.

The white fawn turned orange-red.

"Brother Qiexing?" Lu Yixin asked again, puzzled. "Are you feeling unwell? Why is your face so red?"

He blushed? How could he possibly blush?

Shen Qiexing was about to speak up to defend himself when he found his throat suddenly dry, making it impossible for him to make a sound.

This is really... strange.

Lu Yixin is his enemy!

Shen Qiexing suddenly stood up, gritted his teeth, and slammed his fist on the table. The stool was kicked over in the chaos, startling Lu Yixin. Her antlers sprouted out like bamboo shoots after a spring rain.

"Where are you going, hey! Brother Qiexing!"

She stared in shock at Shen Qiexing's hasty retreating figure, and began to reflect on what she had just done to make him flee in such a panic.

But she clearly didn't do anything!
