Chapter 46: Our family doesn’t owe any debts, right?

As Huo Yao entered the living room, Song Ning, who was sorting cardboard boxes, looked up. When he saw her, he was startled and the account book in his hand fell to the ground.

"Yaoyao... why did you come back so soon? Didn't you say you were going to visit Old Madam Yang?" Song Ning looked surprised, then she hurriedly bent down to pick up the account book and put it into the cardboard box.

Huo Jinyan, who was holding a calculator and wearing glasses, also put down the calculator. He first checked the time on his wrist before asking in confusion, "Daughter, you've only been out for a few hours. Did you forget to take anything?"

Huo Yao glanced at the cardboard box in front of Song Ning as if nothing had happened, and replied casually: "The old lady has guests at home, so I came back."

Song Ning heard this and said, "So that's how it is..."

After a pause, without thinking too much, she continued, "You haven't eaten yet, have you? Your dad and I thought you wouldn't be back at noon, so we haven't prepared lunch yet. Wait a minute, mom will clean up and cook."

As Song Ning spoke, she quickly threw several account books on the coffee table into the box, and finally threw in her husband's calculator.

"Old Huo, move the things back to the room. I'll go make dinner." She ordered.

"Okay." Mr. Huo took off his glasses, picked up the cardboard box and went upstairs.

Huo Yao looked at his back thoughtfully, then followed Song Ning into the kitchen. While helping to pick vegetables, he casually asked, "Did any guests come to our house today?"

Song Ning shook his head, "No, why are you asking this suddenly?" Did he encounter some financial problems?

"When I walked in just now, I saw a few more pairs of clean slippers in the shoe cabinet." Huo Yao lowered his eyes, and there was no sound unusual in his voice.

When Song Ning heard this, he paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "Mom cleaned the shoe cabinet this morning, but your dad interrupted her, so she might have forgotten to put her shoes in."

Huo Yao said "Oh", and after a few seconds, she seemed to remember something and said casually: "By the way, Mom, I just met a group of people in black suits when I was waiting for the elevator downstairs."

Song Ning paused again, and when he was about to say something, he heard his daughter's words again.

"Those people look ferocious, a bit like the kind of people in society who come to your door to collect debts. Mom, our family doesn't owe any debts, right?" Huo Yao looked at Song Ning with a serious expression.

Song Ning felt a little guilty when being stared at by this gaze, and couldn't help but shook her head: "No, our family doesn't owe any debts!" However, after a few seconds, she asked again tentatively: "Do those people you mentioned really look scary?"

"Well, he doesn't look like a serious person." Huo Yao told the truth.

When Song Ning heard this, the words "They are the company's finance department, not the debt collectors" that she was about to say were instantly suppressed in her throat.

As expected, what Old Huo was worried about was right. The image of that group of people in the company was too scary. Even if he told his daughter that the person she just met was the company's financial officer, she would probably be frightened. She might even suspect whether her parents were running some illegal business.

No, I must not let my daughter know the truth.

Song Ning collected her thoughts and said calmly, "Maybe someone in our building has borrowed money from a loan shark. Next time you run into someone like this, remember to avoid him."

Huo Yao turned her head to glance at Song Ning, her eyes slightly fixed, her long eyelashes casting a faint shadow. She didn't ask any more questions and put the last vegetable she picked into the basket.
