Figures at the sports meet

Figures at the sports meet

The clamor of the campus sports meet filled the late autumn playground, and the red track was particularly eye-catching in the sun. Lin Weixi stood at the starting line, feeling her heart about to beat out of her chest. She had originally been pulled in just to make up the numbers, and had never imagined that she would stand on the women's 400-meter relay field.

"Wei Xi, relax." Shen Siyu patted her shoulder, "Just treat it as an experience."

But Lin Weixi couldn't relax. Because she saw Chen Wang standing outside the track, with the sports committee member's badge on his chest and a stopwatch in his hand. As the sports committee member, he was responsible for coordinating the entire competition process.

"Everyone, take your positions—" the referee raised the starting gun.

Lin Weixi took a deep breath and got into a running position. She could feel Chen Wang's eyes sweeping over her, which made her even more nervous.

The gunshot rang out, and the first runner rushed out like an arrow. Lin Weixi stood in the third runner position, watching her teammates gradually widen the gap, her palms sweating.

When the second runner stumbled and stuffed the baton into her hands, they were already far behind. Lin Weixi ran forward desperately, with the whistling wind and vague cheers in her ears.

Just when she felt her lungs were about to burn, a familiar voice penetrated all the noise: "Lin Weixi, pay attention to your breathing rhythm!"

It was Chen Wang. He had appeared on the inside of the track at some point, following her as he ran, instructing her: "Swing your arms, and regulate your breathing!"

Miraculously, she adjusted her pace according to his instructions, and her steps suddenly became much lighter. In the last 100 meters, she even surpassed two opponents.

When crossing the finish line, Lin Weixi almost collapsed to the ground. A strong arm supported her in time: "Good run."

She raised her head and met Chen Wang's smiling eyes. His hands were steady, and the warmth she felt through the thin tracksuit was palpable.

"Thank you..." she said breathlessly, her cheeks getting hot from the exercise or something else.

"There's something wrong with your running form," Chen Wang let go of his hand and demonstrated the movements. "I'll help you adjust it during the next training session."

Next time? Lin Weixi was stunned. Does this mean they will have another chance to be alone together?

In the afternoon's high jump competition, Chen Wang made it to the finals without any suspense. Every time he jumped over the bar, the whole audience would burst into enthusiastic cheers. Lin Weixi hid in the crowd, using her camera to record every graceful movement of his leap over the bar.

When it was Chen Wang's turn in the final, the bar had already risen to an astonishing height. He ran up, jumped, and his body drew a perfect arc in the air - but his heel lightly brushed the bar.

Amid everyone's exclamations, the horizontal bar trembled a few times, but ultimately did not fall.

"We won!" The classmates cheered and rushed to the center of the field, surrounding Chen Wang. Lin Weixi stood on the edge of the crowd, watching him being thrown into the air, a bright smile on her face.

At the award ceremony, Chen Wang stood on the highest podium, his gold medal gleaming in the sun. When the national anthem sounded, Lin Weixi quietly pressed the shutter, freezing this moment forever.

After the sports meet, the students left the playground one after another. Lin Weixi was packing up her photography equipment when she suddenly heard footsteps behind her.

"The photos are great," Chen Wang's voice rang out. He had changed back into his school uniform, his hair still damp, probably from a shower.

"Congratulations on winning the gold medal." Lin Weixi said softly.

Chen Wang smiled, revealing that familiar dimple: "Thank you too."

"Thank me for what?"

"Thank you for capturing these moments." He pointed at the camera. "Especially Xiaoxing, she must love these photos."

Lin Weixi then remembered that she had promised to take pictures of her sister at the sports meet. It turned out that he remembered it, he had always remembered it.

The setting sun stretched their shadows very long, and there were only two of them left on the playground. Lin Weixi mustered up her courage: "You said before... that you would teach me how to run..."

"Of course," Chen Wang said cheerfully, "Starting next week, stay for half an hour every day after school and I'll help you with special training."

On the way home, Lin Weixi's steps were particularly brisk. Although she didn't get any ranking today, she felt that this might be the most wonderful sports meeting in her life.

That night, she filled her diary with photos of the sports meet and wrote under the last photo:

"Today, he called me by my full name for the first time. Amidst the clamor of the arena, his voice rang clear to my ears. Although it was just a simple instruction, it made me feel like the mountains and rivers between us were no longer the barrier."

Outside the window, the moon had already risen. Lin Weixi recalled Chen Wang's agile figure as he jumped over the horizontal bar, and his bright eyes as he spoke. This autumn, because of a sports meeting, suddenly became particularly unforgettable.
