Siyu's Love
On the first weekend of December, while Lin Weixi was working on a photography report in the library, she received an urgent text message from Chen Siyu asking for help: "Come to the second floor of the third cafeteria quickly! Help!"
She hurriedly packed her bag and rushed to the cafeteria, where she found Shen Siyu sitting in a corner with a strange boy. The boy wore black-framed glasses and nervously gripped a Coke can between his fingers, while Shen Siyu's face was as red as the ketchup on the table.
"Wei Xi!" Chen Siyu rushed over as if she had seen a savior. "This is Zhou Mingxuan from the Computer Science Department. We met in an elective class."
Lin Weixi immediately understood the situation. She sat down naturally, took the milk tea handed to her by Shen Siyu, and secretly observed the boy who made his best friend feel at a loss. He would push up his glasses when he spoke, and his smile was shy, but his eyes would light up when he talked about programming.
"So you two met in Python class?" Lin Weixi tried to lighten the mood.
"Yeah," Zhou Mingxuan nodded, "She sat in the row in front of me. One time, she lost her USB drive, and I helped her recover the data."
Shen Siyu pinched Lin Weixi under the table, her eyes saying "Stop talking". But Lin Weixi discovered that when Zhou Mingxuan was explaining the code, Shen Siyu's eyes were always following him, just like the way she had secretly looked at Chen Wang back then.
When they parted after dinner, Zhou Mingxuan carefully handed the scarf to Shen Siyu: "It's windy outside." This action made Shen Siyu's ears red.
On the way back to the dormitory, Shen Siyu finally confessed: "I've liked him for two months, but I stutter every time I talk to him."
"I can see that," Lin Weixi smiled, "You almost knocked over the Coke just now."
During a late-night chat, Chen Siyu climbed onto her bed, holding a pillow and asking, "Wei Xi, do you think I should confess my feelings?"
Moonlight shone through the gap in the curtains onto her bestie's serious face. Lin Weixi remembered that in her senior year of high school, Chen Siyu had encouraged her in the same way.
"If you're in so much pain, why not give it a try?" she whispered.
"But being rejected is so embarrassing..."
"But missing out might be even more regrettable."
When she said this, Lin Weixi herself was stunned. It turned out that she had already figured out her own thoughts while persuading others.
A week later, Chen Siyu announced her relationship in a very Chen Siyu-esque way - she posted a photo of shadows holding hands on her Moments with the caption: "Caught a programmer." Lin Weixi liked the post immediately, and the comments were filled with cheers from her high school classmates.
What surprised her most was Chen Wang's comment: "Congratulations. I'll treat you."
Zhou Xu immediately replied: "Please invite Wei Xi first."
This reply made Lin Weixi's heart skip a beat. She clicked on the private chat window, wanting to explain something, but didn't know where to start. Finally, Chen Wangxian sent a message: "Zhou Xu was just joking, don't mind it."
"It's okay." She replied, but a subtle sense of loss arose in her heart.
On Christmas Eve, Chen Siyu dragged Lin Weixi on a double date. Zhou Mingxuan brought his roommate, a physics major who was quiet but considerate. The four of them went to see the lantern exhibition, and Lin Weixi deliberately walked behind, watching her bestie happily snuggle up to her boyfriend.
"Are you not used to it?" the physics student handed her hot cocoa. "I also find it a bit awkward to be a third wheel."
They sat on a bench in the square and chatted. The boy's name was Li Zhe, and he was Chen Wang's direct junior. When she heard Chen Wang's name, Lin Weixi's hands trembled, and the hot cocoa spilled on her scarf.
"Be careful!" Li Zhe handed over a tissue. "Do you know Senior Chen Wang?"
"High school classmate." she said softly.
Li Zhe's eyes lit up. "He's a legend in our department. But he seems to be hanging out at the photography club a lot lately. It's quite strange."
These words were like a stone thrown into a lake, creating ripples in Lin Weixi's heart.
On the subway on the way back, Shen Siyu leaned on her shoulder and whispered, "Li Zhe is a nice guy, right? He asked me for your WeChat."
"You gave it?" Lin Weixi frowned.
"Of course not!" Shen Siyu squeezed her hand, "I know who's in your heart."
That night, Lin Weixi couldn't sleep. She opened Chen Wang's WeChat Moments, and the latest update was the A University Photography Club's Christmas-themed exhibition. One photo looked particularly familiar—a basketball court against the light, a composition that resembled a photo she'd taken in high school.
She opened the dialog box, typed in a message, then deleted it, ultimately asking, "I saw the photos from your photography exhibition; they're fantastic."
Three minutes later, a reply popped up: "Some of these ideas were inspired by you."
These words made her curl up in the quilt, and the corners of her mouth couldn't help but rise.
When the New Year's bell rang, the class group exploded with blessings. Chen Wang rarely sent a red envelope with the message: "Happy New Year." Lin Weixi grabbed 5.20 yuan and stared at the number in a daze until the early morning.
The next day, Chen Siyu announced that Zhou Mingxuan had officially met his parents. She excitedly showed off the bracelet her boyfriend's mother had given her, her eyes sparkling. "Weixi, be brave and good things will happen."
Lin Weixi looked at her best friend's happy face and suddenly remembered the rooftop in her senior year of high school. The sincerity in Chen Wang's eyes when he said "You should go to the place that suits you best".
She opened her diary and drew a picture of four little people watching a lantern show. Next to it she wrote:
"It turns out happiness comes in many forms. Siyu's directness and passion, my reserve and forbearance, neither is superior or inferior. Just like different lights, both can illuminate the path forward. What matters is that we are all growing towards the light."
The first snow of the new year fell outside her window. She took a photo, this time making it visible to everyone. Five minutes later, Chen Wang liked it, and Zhou Xu commented: "When will we go back home to get together?"
She replied: "Winter vacation."
Snowflakes fell on the window, melting into water droplets. Just like some worries, they will eventually find their own outlet.
