Chapter 2 Escape Plan
“Lele…Lele…”
The sound seemed to sink to the bottom of the water, unclear and with a suffocating sticky feeling.
Who is calling her?
"Le Le, Le Le, Le Le..." The voices were urgent, like the ghosts from hell demanding death.
Lele frowned, feeling as if a heavy stone weighed on him, and he almost couldn't breathe.
"Ah!" When she was about to suffocate, she sat up suddenly and breathed in and out deeply.
When she looked closely, she found that it was the fat girl next door who was sleeping on her. Lele kicked her away with a blank expression.
The chubby little girl was kicked back to her bed by her.
"Annoying." A clear, slightly hoarse voice came out of Lele's throat.
She froze. As if burned by her own voice, she subconsciously covered her mouth. In the darkness, her eyes widened.
"Annoying, annoying... annoying..." She repeated it carefully, word for word. Though her voice was low, it hit her eardrums distinctly. It was like the sound of air leaking from a worn-out bellows, but it was definitely coming from her.
Can she speak now?
Lele opened his little hands and patted his face. It hurt, it really did!
Her eyesight was not very good at night, so after putting on the ugly clothes donated to her by others, she groped her way out of bed.
He stood by the bed for a long moment, stunned. The orphanage was completely silent, but Lele's heart was beating like a stone thrown into boiling water. A thought that had been lingering in his heart for countless days and nights suddenly came to his mind.
She wants to run!
Jiang Le packed very neatly, hanging a water bottle on her body in case she needed to drink water; then she picked up her tattered schoolbag, which was of course not bought by the welfare home but donated by someone last year; finally, she stuffed a bunch of random things into the schoolbag, all of which were things she had received in the past few years, including her own toys.
She didn't touch any of the other things provided by the welfare home.
Get ready and start your escape plan.
He opened the dilapidated iron door very gently, but the door, which had not been repaired for a long time, still made a "creaking" sound.
Her hair stood on end and she looked around vigilantly to make sure no one noticed her. Then she tiptoed downstairs.
At that time, the old lady arranged for her to stay in the innermost room on the third floor in order to find a room with fewer people. Therefore, she had to use a lot of effort to run to the stairs.
It was a thrilling journey, but fortunately none of the other kids were night owls like her.
Fortunately, she ran downstairs smoothly without any danger and came to the front door. She couldn't open the door because she didn't have the key, but she didn't need to go through the front door.
Lele's body was tinkling and clanging. She squatted on the ground, stretched out her little hand, and gently touched its warm ears. Xiao Huang hummed comfortably in his sleep.
Her favorite dog in the welfare home is this one, but she can’t take it with her because it will suffer with her.
"Goodbye, Xiao Huang." Although Lele felt regretful, there was still no expression on his face.
She first stuffed her schoolbag into the dog hole, then lay on the ground, twisting her butt, and grunted as she tried to throw herself out of the dog hole.
"call--"
The dusty child leaned against the wall with a sense of relief. After working for most of the day, she was finally able to take a breath.
Her plan was half successful, and she couldn't rest any longer because they would wake up soon.
Lele took a deep breath, puffed out his cheeks, put on his schoolbag and started running for his life.
The child has been weak and sickly since childhood, with average physical strength. He would be out of breath and gasping for breath after running a few steps.
The orphanage was located in a remote suburb, with no one around and little light. But Lele was used to it and wasn't too scared.
Thanks to the child's high energy, Lele could run a long way no matter how weak and sickly he was.
When she couldn't run anymore, the child would squat in the corner to rest for a while, open her schoolbag and take out a small bag of biscuits, which were secretly given to her by her aunt.
The old lady's hands and feet became less and less flexible, so the dean wanted to replace her. The thin woman instigated her, which made the dean even more dissatisfied with her.
There was no other way, the old lady could only do what she wanted according to her expression, not daring to offend the woman. So when the woman didn't give her food, she could only secretly give her one or two cookies to eat.
Lele was very grateful to the old lady. Although she sold her longevity lock, it was also for her medical treatment. She was really a nice person.
As for how she knew, that’s a long story.
To put it simply, Lele fell ill again one time, and the old lady's own son was also sick and had no time to take care of her, but the director forced her to stay.
The old lady pointed at Lele and cursed, "It's a pity that I rescued you in the middle of winter and saved your life. If I didn't feel sorry for you, I would have taken your broken gold lock and enjoyed it myself. I also used it to treat your illness and the coffin for the dead..."
Lele blinked her eyes and took small bites of the biscuit. She couldn't eat too fast, otherwise there would be nothing to eat later.
She reluctantly stuffed the biscuits back into her schoolbag and continued walking towards the town.
Why was there a plan to escape?
A sister who often comes to the welfare home as a volunteer always has her eyes shining like stars when she talks about her policeman father: "Le Le, the police uncles and aunts are the most powerful people in the world! They catch bad guys and protect the good people. If you encounter difficulties, go to the police! They will definitely help you! Just like my father!"
Lele nodded, seemingly understanding, and muttered as he walked, "I'm going to find the police. They'll help Lele find his parents. Lele... will have a home."
She would become the happiest child in the world, just like her older sister.
Lele clutched the strap of his schoolbag, the more he thought about it the more energetic he became, and he quickened his pace as he headed towards the town.
At daybreak, Lele finally reached the edge of the town, where a long line of stalls had been set up on the roadside.
The noisy shouting penetrated her ears. Normally, she had sensitive hearing and any noise would make her irritable, but now she no longer cared about these sounds.
"Whose child is that?"
"Oh, I don't know. You're carrying a small schoolbag so early in the morning. Are you going to school?"
"I wish my child could be this sensible."
–
Lele was walking around aimlessly with her schoolbag on her back, feeling hungry. This small town was too big for her.
She was a little unable to walk, so she squatted in front of a small supermarket, swallowing her saliva and looking at the fragrant grilled sausages outside the store.
“Gu——”
Lele covered her belly which was almost deflated to her back and lowered her eyes. It was no big deal. She would eat as much as she wanted after she found her parents.
"Ah!" A scream and a child's cry came from the side.
"What's wrong with you? You can't even hold something steady. Did you get hurt from the fall?"
Lele looked up and saw a woman cursing and brushing the dust off a child's knees.
The little boy was stunned for a moment, and then he was about to bend down to pick it up, but the woman exclaimed and slapped the child's hand, "Hey, what are you doing? It fell on the ground and it's dirty. You can't eat it, you can't eat it."
But the child insisted on picking it up, and started crying if she didn't give it to him, "Mom..."
"Okay, okay, I'm really impressed. I'll buy you another one, okay?" The woman pouted and handed the child another one. "Hold it well. I'll blow on it for you. It's hot."
The child was now content holding the sausage with a smile, and opened his arms and said, "Mommy, hold me."
The woman held him and left helplessly.
Lele didn't look at the two men, his eyes were fixed on the sausage rolling on the ground like a hungry wolf.
She also imitated the woman's movements and clapped her hands. When they turned red, she said to herself, "Mom said that things that fall on the ground are not clean and cannot be eaten. I must listen to Mom."
Lele is a good child. She won’t cry and make a fuss like the other kid just now. She is very obedient.
After a while, she closed her eyes to avoid looking at the intestines on the ground, stood up suddenly, and prepared to continue looking for the police.
Suddenly, her vision went dark. She tried to grab something nearby to support herself, but she found nothing and fell straight down.
"Hey, hey, this kid..." The owner of the small shop had noticed her for a long time. When he saw her collapsed at the door, he was so scared that he ran out quickly.
Lele opened his eyes and saw the anxious face of the woman opposite him. He opened his hands and pouted, "Mommy, hold me..."
The shop owner, who already had a little daughter, couldn't bear to see the child in such pity. He picked her up and patted her on the back. "Whose baby are you? Why are you out on the street so early in the morning? Are you hungry?"
Lele lay on the boss's shoulder, greedily enjoying the warm embrace, clenched his fists, and said nothing.
"Huh? Why aren't you talking?" The boss pushed open the door and carried her in. He pulled out a candy from the door and gave it to her. "Have a candy."
After being stuffed with a lollipop, Lele's eyes lit up, and then he hugged his boss's neck tightly, shouting happily: "Mom, Mom, you are my mom!"
When the old lady secretly gave her cookies, she was always sneaky, afraid that the director would find out. But this mother gave her candy openly!
Only her mother would be so good to her, not even her aunt.
The boss was melted by her soft voice. He shrugged and shook his hands happily. Wow, whose child is so cute?
I wanted to play with the child, but was interrupted by a burst of crying.
"Wow……"
She quickly put Lele down, rushed to the back room, picked up her daughter who was woken up, "Oh...oh...don't cry, don't cry, baby don't cry..." She rocked her daughter and pulled a chair for the child who followed in to sit on.
Lele obediently took off her schoolbag and held it in her arms, climbed onto the chair and sat down, her two thin legs dangling in the air, and she tilted her head to watch the woman coaxing the child.
The woman held her daughter in one hand and struggled to prepare milk powder with the other.
"Mom, let me help you." Lele jumped down very tactfully, fixed the bottle, and waited for the woman to scoop out the milk powder.
The woman smiled gently and patted the child's head again, "What a good child."
After preparing the milk powder, the woman sat down to feed the child.
Lele squatted beside her, looking at the baby drinking milk, then at the woman who was carefully feeding her. She asked curiously, "Where's Daddy? Why are you alone?"
The breastfeeding woman paused and smiled unnaturally, "Uh, Daddy went to work."
Lele nodded, and when she saw that the woman was tired and wanted to help her, an extremely clear and desperate voice pierced her mind without warning.
[That damn man hasn't come back all night. Where did he go to gamble again? Gamble, gamble, gamble. He doesn't care about the kids and has lost all his money. How can I live like this?!]
She was so frightened by the extremely resentful voice that she sat down on the ground, "Mom, what did you say..."
The woman came back to her senses, frowned, and said to her with a slightly tired voice: "Little girl, I'm not your mother. Your parents will definitely be worried if you run away alone. Can you call them and ask them to pick you up?"
"Call... pick me up..." The color drained from Lele's face in an instant. Pick her up? Pick her up? Where?
She jumped up from the ground like a frightened rabbit, not even bothering to pick up the fallen lollipop. She grabbed her schoolbag on the ground and rushed out of the supermarket without looking back.
"Hey! Why are you running!" The woman stood up quickly.
She doesn't want this mother anymore.
She ran around in panic, afraid that if she was a step slower she would be arrested and sent back to the orphanage. Her vision was blurred, and she couldn't see the road ahead. She raised her hand and wiped away a tear.
While wiping her tears, she bumped into a solid high wall and immediately sat down on the ground with stars in her eyes.
"Hey? Where did the little cannonball come from?" A voice filled with surprise and a bit of amusement sounded above his head.
Lele raised her head dazedly, her vision blurred by tears. She saw a figure in a dark blue uniform and a large cap squatting down.
He lifted the child up with one hand and heard the child's "Gu...". He said to the bun shop owner with a smile: "Boss, give me two more meat buns and a cup of soy milk."
"Okay!"
"Little boy, why are you running around on the street alone? It's very dangerous. Can your uncle take you home?" The big and strong policeman softened his voice to coax the child.
A few tears hung on Lele's eyelashes, and she said in a muffled voice: "I don't want to go back, I want to find the police, I want to find the police..."
The police officer was stunned and couldn't help laughing. It was the first time he heard a child crying and asking to find the police. "I am the police."
But when he took a closer look at the child's dusty appearance, he became wary and wondered if the child had been caught by human traffickers. He took his breakfast and rushed the child to the police station.
Lele lay on his shoulder in a daze.
She found the police.
