Chapter 5 Threats
This is the sixth year that Lele has suffered in this world, but obviously, this world has not let her go.
She looked gloomily at the person in front of her who was chattering away introducing himself. The girl's forced innocence on her face was like a layer of cheap paint, unable to cover up the deliberateness underneath.
In the gaps between her words, other voices penetrated Lele's ears unhindered, so clear and piercing.
Villain, system, black value, favorability...
Lele hadn't gone to school yet, and a bunch of words she hardly understood were bombarding her head. She felt that this strange person definitely had bad intentions, so she didn't bother to pursue the matter and turned around and left.
"Hey, hey, hey, don't go! I haven't even finished what I'm saying!"
Lele listened to the people behind him shouting in silence, and quickened his pace. What a strange person.
"The system is broken! I'm going to fail again!" The girl's frustrated voice sounded behind him.
[Forget it, forget it. This villain is difficult to defeat anyway. Let's go.] A cold, mechanical voice responded.
Lele didn't want to criticize her poor acting skills, which were even worse than the worst actors she had ever seen on TV. Since she had a purpose, she should at least show some sincerity.
“…” There was silence for a while.
When I looked back, the place was indeed empty.
It was as if a switch had been turned on, and from then on, people of all kinds began to flock in.
Men and women, young and old, some put on a smile and abruptly wanted to make friends with her, while others looked compassionate and claimed to give her a home.
Without exception, they were all having conversations with the invisible "system" in their hearts, and the same lame script called "Redemption of the Villain" was playing out in their minds.
At first, Lele agreed to go home with a woman. She was so curious about what home was like. Even if it was an elaborate scam, she wanted to briefly feel the illusory warmth of cotton candy.
"Le Le, look, this room is specially decorated for you. Do you like it?" The woman put her arm around her shoulders and gently pointed to the pink-toned room filled with plush toys, her smile impeccable.
Lele stood at the door, looking at the unreal, beautiful room, feeling like she was walking on clouds. Everything seemed like a fragile dream.
She had her own room, but she still couldn't help writing her name over and over again on her belongings.
On the first day of kindergarten, she did not cry like other children, but just sat quietly on the small stool and looked at the teacher.
So annoying. Watching a group of children older than her making so much noise, Lele sneered inwardly.
The exhausted teacher saw her and felt like he had found an angel amidst the chaos of demons—pretty, quiet, and no trouble. So she became the class monitor.
After several tests, the teacher was even more astonished. This child had a photographic memory and was incredibly quick to react. Who wouldn't want such a smart and beautiful child? The teacher's preference for her grew.
The teacher liked it, and some other children came over to join in. But some people were still not convinced.
"Le Le! Come out! Let's have a one-on-one duel, and whoever wins will be the class monitor!" A little boy who was a head taller than Le Le shouted at her aggressively while standing at the door.
Lele, who was playing with building blocks out of boredom, looked over in confusion and saw that there were already quite a few little followers behind her.
The little girl next to him, who had finally been able to play with Lele, became angry when Lele looked at her with aggrieved look. She kicked the stool away and rushed towards the little boy.
Wen Jing grabbed his collar and raised her fist, cursing, "Mi Xiaohui, are you sick?"
Mi Xiaohui suddenly became depressed and whispered: "Violent girl, violent girl."
Lele took advantage of their "confrontation" and calmly stood up to find the teacher: "Teacher, Mi Xiaohui bullied his classmates."
The result was naturally that the two little guys were taken to the corner and stood there as punishment.
Lele actually liked the toys in the kindergarten; they were much fresher than the junk in the orphanage. But someone always interrupted her when she was concentrating on her studies.
Now that there is no one chattering around, Lele can finally play by himself.
As she picked up a puzzle piece, another child came over, followed by a familiar inner monologue.
"Lele, let's be friends..."
"What a cliché." This was an idiom Lele had just learned. She ignored it and continued fiddling with the puzzle pieces in her hand.
"System, if I can't conquer the game successfully, will I die?" the child asked nervously.
"No," the system replied coldly, "It's just that we can't get any points. If that doesn't work, let's just change our goal."
The person breathed a sigh of relief and wanted to try again, but Lele suddenly raised her head and looked at her with empty eyes.
"Ah——" She was startled and almost fell to the ground.
Won’t die?
Does it mean that you can live forever and ever?
She also wants to live forever.
If a person's life is infinitely long, he won't care about wasting time.
This thought instantly entangled Lele's heart like a poisonous snake. If a person's life was infinite, would they not care about wasting that insignificant time?
If that were the case, she might... be willing to answer Li Xin's last call and give that stupid light that was about to burn out a little worthless time?
System, such a good thing, why can so many people have it, but she can't?
An unprecedented poisonous thought, a mixture of jealousy and strong possessiveness, broke out from the bottom of her heart and grew wildly.
"Come with me after school." Lele hooked her finger.
The child was stunned at first, then a look of ecstasy appeared on his face and he nodded hurriedly.
The woman's home wasn't far from the kindergarten. After Lele learned the route, she stopped asking her to pick him up. She led the child through a maze of alleyways, finally stopping in a secluded, deserted corner.
The child followed her warily, frantically discussing countermeasures with the system in his mind.
Lele listened quietly to the conversation between the two, and finally came up with a plan of "accepting fate", "..."
[Why does she seem to... despise us?] The child was confused.
[It's you, not us.] The system disavowed.
"You, what are you going to do?" the child asked calmly, but before he could finish his words, he was thrown against the cold brick wall by a huge force.
"It hurts!" The back of her head hurt. Then, something cold and hard pressed against her neck.
knife!
Lele held a knife in his hand and pointed it at the child's neck. He scanned her with a cold gaze, trying to find out where the system was.
The child was horrified by her gaze and was about to cry. He raised his hands and said, "You, what are you looking for? I, I will give you everything."
The child knew that she was from an orphanage and thought she was going to rob him, so he quickly reached into her pockets.
[Quick! Quick! Quick! Give me some money!] She screamed at the system.
[Why do I feel like... she's not here for the money?] The system also felt a surge of electric shock.
Lele's eyes finally locked onto the child's head. She spoke slowly, her voice as cold as the wind from underground: "Give me the system in your head."
【ah--! ! ! 】
[Warning! Warning! Serious violation! The host must not reveal the existence of the system to the target person!] The system's shrill alarm and the child's scream exploded almost simultaneously!
The child was terrified. [Didn't you say she's young and her Darkness quotient isn't high?! You call that low?!]
"It's so noisy, hurry up." Lele rubbed the knife handle with his thumb in annoyance.
[Do you want to pay 10,000 points immediately to forcibly leave this world?!] The system asked urgently.
"Yes, yes, yes! Quick! Immediately! Right now!" the child cried out in confirmation.
Lele was caught off guard. She felt a flash before her eyes and didn't catch the person. She disappeared right before her eyes.
Bad luck, I met a timid person.
She curled her lips and threw the retractable toy knife in her hand back into her schoolbag. It turned out that such a good thing was not easy to get.
There is still a long way to go. Judging from the number of people she has met so far, there will probably be many more in the future.
"Woof! Woof!"
Lele's thoughts were interrupted. She turned her head to look at a gray puppy in the dark corner, which was arching its back and barking at her fiercely.
However, because it is too thin, it does not seem to be very intimidating.
Lele looked into those wet but vigilant eyes for a moment, then silently took out a sausage from her schoolbag. It was a reward from her teacher, and she had never been willing to eat it.
She carefully broke it open, put half on the ground, pushed it not far from the puppy, and began to nibble on the other half.
The puppy smelled the tempting aroma of meat, and paced anxiously on the spot, with the tip of its tail wagging slightly and its saliva almost dripping, but it dared not move forward because of extreme vigilance.
"Eat." Lele said indifferently, chewing and pointing at the intestines on the ground.
Hunger finally overcame fear, and the puppy tentatively jumped out and picked up the sausage.
While it was wolfing down the food, it kept its eyes on Lele, guarding against her possible kick at any time. After all, it had experienced this kind of thing too many times.
After eating, the puppy saw that Lele really had no ill intentions and even felt a little grateful for sharing the food. It approached cautiously and licked Lele's palm in a flattering manner.
Maybe it was the desire to want more when you can't get it, but the flavor of this sausage didn't seem nearly as good as the roasted sausage she'd smelled on the street the other day. She hadn't tried it before, so she couldn't compare.
When she returned home, the woman had already cooked dinner for her.
"Le Le, did you have fun in kindergarten today?" The woman smiled slightly and picked up some food for her with chopsticks.
Lele lowered her eyes, avoided the dish she had picked up, ate other things, and simply said "hmm".
[Alas, no progress at all. Is this kid's heart made of stone?] The woman sighed inwardly.
"Host, our time limit for staying in this world is almost up. If it really doesn't work out... let it go?" the system suggested.
Lele summarized these conversations and guessed that they were entering a game world, where she was the boss and they were the players. If they could pass the level, they would get a lot of rewards, but if they couldn't, they could spend points or survive for a while and leave.
And she is obviously an extremely tough nut to crack.
Lele sneered in her heart. The so-called love and warmth given by these players were so fake that they were not as real and precious as the wild dog that licked her hand in the alley just now.
Then she silently spat on herself. The wild dog had gotten half of her intestines, but still knew to come up and lick her hand to show her gratitude.
And she, for no reason, enjoyed the food, lodging and stability provided by the woman in front of her, but she didn't feel even a bit grateful in her heart.
[System, system! Look!] The woman's surprised voice suddenly exploded in Lele's mind.
[Although the Darkness Point didn't change, her favorability towards me increased by 1 point! Increased by 1 point!]
[What?!] The system also seemed shocked. [Wait, let the backend estimate...]
[Oh my god! Host! The points calculated for her 1 point of favorability are ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands... one hundred thousand! We're making a killing! One hundred thousand points!]
Lele was stunned when she heard her excited voice. It turned out that her insignificant favor could earn her so many points.
Maybe she can use this to get more things. One point from these players can be exchanged for a lot of currency in this world.
The system can’t be obtained for the time being, at least she needs to have money.
She wanted money. Lots of money.
[Eh? Host, something's wrong. Why has the favorability... dropped back down again? To 0?] The system's voice was filled with confusion.
[Huh? My happiness was in vain…] The woman was instantly depressed.
"It's not for nothing," Lele suddenly raised his head and looked directly at the woman with a piercing gaze that didn't resemble that of a kindergartener. "I was just testing it."
The woman froze, looking at her in disbelief, and stammered, "Le, Lele, what are you talking about?"
"I'll exchange 10 points of favorability with you for money." Lele replied calmly.
The woman was completely petrified, her mind blank. After a few seconds, a flash of panic crossed her eyes, followed by signs of frantic, silent communication with the system.
Lele pursed her lips, actually unsure whether the other party would agree to this deal.
After a long while, the woman seemed to have finally reached a consensus with the system.
She took a deep breath, trying to remain calm, but her voice still trembled slightly. "How much do you want? I've only just started... I don't have many points..."
"One hundred thousand."
"It can't be exchanged for anything...ah?" The woman's pretended calmness suddenly cracked. She had prepared herself to be severely punished by the child.
It's really... the lion's mouth is so small.
Lele just wanted to get well first before discussing other matters. The old lady had said before that she would need a lot of money, and this amount would definitely be enough for her treatment.
She was very prescient.
There's no way. Lele just started the middle class of kindergarten and only learned numbers within ten today. In her eyes, ten thousand is already a considerable amount of money.
"Deal!" The woman's eyes revealed indescribable excitement. It turns out that children are so easy to fool!
