Chapter 10: First meeting and spending a stormy night together "Look, the rain has stopped."...
Song Linsheng rubbed his forehead and asked Wen Yu softly, "Are you okay? Madam Wen Yu."
Just now, Wen Yu seemed to be having a nightmare and kept mumbling. Song Linsheng called her several times but failed to wake her up. He could only hear her muttering "I'm sorry" over and over again, and it seemed that she was talking to Song Linsheng.
Song Linsheng saw that her emotions were gradually calming down like the heat in a fire, with beads of sweat still hanging on her forehead. He took out a snow-white handkerchief from his bosom and handed it to Wen Yu. After thinking for a moment, he said comfortingly:
"I just heard you calling my name repeatedly in your dream. I'm sorry."
Wen Yu stared at the handkerchief, her scattered mind gradually gathering. It turned out that she had dreamed about it again...
"If it's about what happened yesterday, there's no need to worry. If I hadn't startled you, you wouldn't have fallen off the branch. It was me who was rude."
Song Linsheng had always had an excellent sense of direction. Even in his former life in Shangdu, where he rarely ventured out and always traveled by car or sedan chair, he had never lost his way or his bearings. Yesterday, however, he wandered back and forth several times in Houchun Mountain. He didn't notice it at first, but the more he thought about it, the more he felt something was amiss. He had heard that the God of Spring resided in this mountain, making it prone to attracting demons and monsters, so he bravely asked the "Fairy Lady" to appear.
Unexpectedly, Wen Yu was so frightened that she fell from the tree and nearly got hurt. Song Linsheng already felt bad, and hearing that Wen Yu was still thinking about him in her dream, he felt even more guilty.
After hearing Song Linsheng's explanation, Wen Yu knew he had misunderstood. But that was fine, because how else could she answer? Could it be that Song Linsheng and his original destiny of wealth and a bright career were lost because of Wen Yu, leaving his future uncertain?
Wen Yu did not answer, but took the handkerchief from Song Linsheng's hand.
"Look, the rain has stopped."
Seeing that she still had her head down and seemed very depressed, Song Linsheng changed the subject.
There was a light layer of mist outside the house, and the lush green treetops peeked out from the thick white mist. When the first chirp came from the bird's nest on the branch, it woke up Song Linsheng and Wen Yu, and also woke up the entire Houchun Mountain.
The sky is bright.
"When the sun rises, the forest mists part; when the clouds return, the rocks become dark. The changes of light and darkness are the morning and evening in the mountains." Song Linsheng tilted his head to glance at Wen Yu.
The scenery of spring mountains is truly breathtaking.
Unexpectedly, his first day in Jiangyang Prefecture was spent in Houchun Mountain with a woman he had just met. For some reason, Song Linsheng lowered his head, a slight curve at the corner of his lips that quickly faded into the dimple and disappeared.
Wen Yu and Song Linsheng just sat there quietly. The fire had burned out, and the red stars were buried under the gray and white, emitting the last bit of heat.
Wait until it gets brighter, then she will send Song Linsheng down the mountain. Wen Yu thought to herself, Song Linsheng, I will not let anything happen to you, I must make sure you are safe and have a smooth life.
"Young Master! Young Master——"
A male voice from afar broke the delicate silence between Wen Yu and the others. Wen Yu stood up at the sound, took a few steps forward and stood at the door lintel. The voice sounded like Song Linsheng's attendant.
"It's the sound of washing the inkstone."
Song Linsheng raised his hand to straighten his clothes, making sure his appearance was not messy before he stood up and slowly moved to Wen Yu's side. Strangely, he didn't seem to feel any pain in his legs.
"Young Master?" Xiyan's voice was getting closer and closer, and a man in a blue cloth shirt flashed in from the main gate. He strode in with a few quick steps, shouting loudly as he walked quickly, and behind him came the remaining attendants.
Soon, Xiyan stood in front of Song Linsheng.
"Young Master! I finally found you!"
Perhaps it was because of the heavy dew in the mountains. Seeing that the hem of Xiyan's blue shirt had dyed a darker indigo blue, Song Linsheng wanted to ask him to go into the house to warm up first. But before he could open his mouth, Xiyan started yelling again!
"Young Master! You are injured!" Xi Yan squatted down and grabbed the scarlet cloth tied on Song Linsheng's leg at a glance. He was about to remove the bandage and take a closer look. When he was halfway through the action, Song Linsheng coughed lightly.
"Xiyan, this is Madam Wenyu. It was Madam Wenyu who bandaged me."
Only then did Xi Yan see the young lady beside him whom he had ignored for a long time. She was pretty, with a childish face, a round bun behind each ear, and a few small braids hanging down. She was cute and lively, and looked quite young. The imperial-colored dress she was wearing was exactly the same material as the dress on the young master's wound.
Xiyan hurriedly stood up and bowed.
"Xiyan greets this young lady. Thank you for bandaging my young master."
Wen Yu twitched the corners of her mouth and forced a smile. If he knew that his son was injured by her, he would not be so polite. Wen Yu waved her hands guiltily and said repeatedly:
"No, you're welcome..."
Xiyan stood up and nodded, then reached out to help Song Linsheng and placed him on the cushions in the room. He then quickly called the servants behind him to get medicine and prepare gauze. Judging from the posture, they were preparing to apply medicine and bandage to Song Linsheng again.
Wen Yu looked at them, busy but not panicking, and felt an inexplicable coordination. It seemed that they were all servants who had followed Song Linsheng for a long time. Yes, Wen Yu felt relieved a little. At least for now, it seemed that Song Linsheng's family background was still good, and there was not much deviation from his fate.
Wen Yu leaned against the door frame and looked at the distant mountains outside the house. Song Linsheng was so concerned about his appearance, so he decided to avoid him first.
Xiyan behind him started chattering and muttering again.
"Sir! Yesterday my group found a way down the mountain, but it rained again at night. When we returned to the flower tree, we couldn't find you."
"I followed the tracks all the way here, but in the middle of the night, I didn't dare move for fear of disturbing the wild animals in the mountains. So I arrived too late."
"Fortunately, the young master is fine..."
Song Linsheng nodded slightly when he heard this, indicating that he already understood.
"Huh? Young master, your wound..." Xiyan was working on his hands when he suddenly let out a cry of surprise.
Hearing the sound, Song Linsheng looked at his leg. A wound?
Where was the wound? The thin, bandaged scratch had vanished, leaving the entire patch of skin smooth and intact, as smooth as before.
Song Linsheng's eyelashes fluttered, casting a small shadow on his eyelids. He was puzzled. Yesterday... had he really been injured? He took the piece of imperial-colored fabric from Xiyan's hand. It was still stained with traces of dried blood, as if the only proof of his injury...
The belt was wrapped around Song Linsheng's fingers. He looked carefully and through the gaps between her fingers he could see Wen Yu's slender back and the braids draped over her shoulders.
Song Linsheng pondered for a moment, then turned his gaze back to the half piece of cloth in his hand and gestured to Xiyan.
"Please bandage my wound."
Xiyan blinked and was about to speak when he saw the young master tap his lips with his index finger, silencing him. Although Xiyan was puzzled, he skillfully bandaged Song Linsheng's wound.
After some tidying up and washing up, Song Linsheng's wound was treated. He led a group of attendants out and stopped beside Wen Yu.
"Madam Wenyu, the sky is getting brighter. We are going down the mountain and into the city. You..." Song Linsheng paused, as if waiting for Wenyu to respond.
Wen Yu's mind raced. Isn't this a piece of cake? The words she had just thought of were there!
"Me! I might go with you!"
"I mean, I also want to go into the city to look for my brother..."
"I……"
Wen Yu was furious. Why was she always so anxious and nervous when talking to Song Linsheng? Even if she had prepared a thousand years of speech in her mind, it would still be unclear and messy when she spoke it out loud.
She smiled on her face, but she was actually gritting her teeth.
"Why don't you come with me, Madam Wenyu? My carriage is at the foot of the mountain, so I can just give you a ride and thank you for bandaging me."
Song Linsheng's words not only relieved Wen Yu's embarrassment, but also touched Wen Yu's heart. That's right, this is called "beauty saves the hero"!
Wen Yu followed Song Linsheng and his party out of the yard. After going down the steps from the main hall, Song Linsheng stopped and looked back at the inscription "Xianchun Xiaozhu" on the plaque.
"Huh? Xianchun Cottage? Isn't this the house that the young master mentioned when he came here?" Xiyan followed Song Linsheng's gaze and blurted out the name of the courtyard.
No way… Wen Yu secretly complained. Song Linsheng was well-educated, so why did even the little servant beside him know more words than her? When she entered Jiangyang Mansion, she must find more books to read and learn all the poems and classics of this mortal!
What's the difference between a house and not a house? It's just...
Um?
Wen Yu stared at Song Linsheng in surprise. What house did he mention when he came here? Where did he come from? When did he come here?
Song Linsheng blinked innocently and did not stop Xi Yan from speaking, letting him continue.
"This must be the villa where the young master lived when he was young! This is my first time following the young master back to Jiangyang Mansion, and I've never been here before!"
Song Linsheng couldn't help but chuckle, but quickly stopped. He had lived in Jiangyang Prefecture for some time when he was young, most of which he spent in Xianchun Cottage. Later, his father and brother both became officials in the imperial court and rarely lived in Jiangyang Prefecture, so they moved Song Linsheng to Shangdu City with him.
It is true that I haven't been back here for many years. Although the house has been cleaned by someone for many years, it has been uninhabited for a long time and is very deserted.
Yesterday's pile of firewood brought the first hint of human habitation to the tree in many years.
Song Linsheng couldn't help but look at Wen Yu, her round little head lowered.
Wen Yu wished she could just bury herself back in the earth and become a tree without any senses. She had once wanted to occupy another deity's Palace of Excellence in the Eastern Heavenly Court, but now she was taking Song Linsheng back to someone else's home, claiming it was a good place?
"I'll send someone to put it back in place. When the weather gets hot, it will be a great place to spend the summer." It was just the beginning of spring, and Song Linsheng was already planning how to spend the summer.
He was clearly explaining something to Xi Yan, but for some reason, when Wen Yu heard the words "good place", she always felt that Song Linsheng was talking to her, and her cheeks couldn't help but get hot.
"Let's go down the mountain quickly! Don't delay any longer!" Wen Yu reminded everyone and took the lead, walking in front in a hurry, for fear that Song Linsheng would see the suspicious blush on her face.
Song Linsheng was talking to Xi Yan on the surface, but his eyes were following Wen Yu. When he saw her walking away, he hurriedly followed her.
"Madam Wenyu, be careful, the road is slippery!"
