Chapter 100: The living are definitely more useful than the dead.

The next day, Chen Zhennan, along with Song Yunyang, Li Guangyi and his son, and a hundred special forces members, headed towards the capital of the Great Zhou Dynasty.

Sitting on his horse, Li Mingzhe frowned, his mind filled with doubt. He couldn't help but ask, "Chen Zhennan, now that the capital of Great Zhou is completely in Zhou Tianci's hands, aren't you worried about the danger with so few people?"

Chen Zhennan looked relaxed, with a slight smile on his lips. "I'm not worried. The brothers behind me are all elites handpicked. Coming and going in and out of Beijing is no problem for them."

Li Mingzhe looked back at the cavalrymen dressed in black and wearing red cloaks, but his heart was still not at peace.

Hundreds of cavalrymen, each with a tall and imposing figure, yet only a hundred men, still exerted a heavy sense of pressure on Li Mingzhe when facing the Imperial Guard of the Great Zhou Dynasty.

Chen Zhennan saw through Li Mingzhe's worries and smiled gently, "Don't worry, I will never let anything happen to you and your son. I will definitely protect your safety."

Li Mingzhe nodded slightly and said nothing more.

It was noon, and the wind was howling along the road, bringing a chill. Chen Zhennan led everyone to a grove of trees to take shelter from the wind.

The special forces members quickly set up a perimeter and vigilantly watched the surrounding movements.

Just as Chen Zhennan sat down, his men on guard outside rushed over, looking tense: "Reporting to the Marshal, a troop of armored cavalry, about three hundred men, has appeared outside the woods. They look like the Imperial Guards of the Great Zhou capital."

Chen Zhennan raised an eyebrow slightly, then immediately turned to Li Guangyi and asked, "Marshal Li, are you familiar with the Imperial Guards?"

Li Guangyi's expression changed slightly. After a moment of contemplation, he replied, "I am very familiar with it. I was promoted from the Imperial Guard."

Chen Zhennan nodded slightly, pondering to himself, before leading Li Guangyi and the others out of the woods to investigate.

Emerging from the woods, one is greeted by a scene of two armies facing off.

Opposite them, more than three hundred cavalrymen looked menacing, led by a burly general with piercing eyes.

"Marshal Li, do you know the leader of the Imperial Guard?" Chen Zhennan asked, his voice tinged with seriousness.

"Of course I know him. He is Wang Meng, the current head of the Imperial Guards."

As he spoke, Li Guangyi stepped forward, pointed at the Imperial Guard leader, and questioned, "Wang Meng, Zhou Tianlong is dead. What are you doing blocking our way?"

Wang Meng sat on his horse, a cold smile playing on his lips, and mocked, "Li Guangyi, you betrayed your master for personal gain and betrayed the Great Zhou. Today is your death day!"

Chen Zhennan nodded slightly from behind. Li Guangyi wanted to say something, but just as he was about to speak, Chen Zhennan suddenly stepped forward and blocked his way.

"It seems you've come to avenge your master. I am Chen Zhennan. Since you are Zhou Tianlong's man, why not have a duel with me to avoid too many casualties?"

Upon hearing this, Wang Meng couldn't help but chuckle. "Duel with you? I have over three hundred people, three times the number of yours, Chen Zhennan. Why should I duel with you?"

Having said that, he suddenly drew his long sword from his waist, the blade flashing, and shouted, "Kill!"

The sound was like thunderous war drums, carrying an indomitable spirit. More than three hundred men responded in unison, their killing intent surging as they rushed towards Chen Zhennan.

Chen Zhennan snorted lightly, a faint smile appearing on his face. He took out a grenade from behind his waist, pulled the pin, and flicked his wrist, throwing it forcefully.

The grenade traced a graceful arc in the air, like a shooting star, before gently falling to the ground.

Wang Meng disregarded this and took the lead, charging forward madly with his cavalry.

"boom!"

With a loud bang, flames shot out and smoke filled the air, leaving Wang Meng and his men completely stunned.

Wang Meng was somewhat stunned by the shock, and his warhorse trembled violently beneath him, as if it could also sense its master's tension.

He steadied his horse, silently encouraging himself, preparing to regroup and charge forward.

At this moment, the special forces soldiers around Chen Zhennan were already ready, raising their guns and aiming at Wang Meng and his cavalry.

Wang Meng felt a little scared. Although he had never seen these weapons before, he had heard of their power.

After thinking for a long time, Wang Meng gritted his teeth and shouted, "Kill them! Charge!"

Wang Meng gripped his long sword tightly and led his cavalry forward, instantly igniting shouts of battle.

Chen Zhennan sighed softly and waved his hand slightly. The special forces soldiers immediately pulled the triggers, and the gunshots rang out like thunder, deafeningly loud.

Wang Meng was shot three times, blood gushing out, and he fell heavily off his horse, his face contorted in pain as he struggled.

Chen Zhennan frantically hurled grenades from the side, the explosions accompanied by gunfire creating a deafening roar, as if the end of the world had arrived, and the battlefield was in complete chaos.

Wang Meng's cavalrymen were thrown into chaos. Without Wang Meng's leadership, no one dared to advance; their only thought was to flee.

When Chen Zhennan saw that the cavalry were trying to escape, he hurriedly ordered them to give chase.

"Chase them! Make sure to capture a few alive!"

Upon hearing the commotion, Chen Zhennan's men rushed out, but about thirty remained by his side, each performing their duties.

Before long, the men who had chased after them returned one after another, each carrying three prisoners. Their expressions varied; some were panicked, and some were desperate.

Chen Zhennan, with sharp eyes, inquired about their purpose in coming here.

The three prisoners showed no weakness, remaining steadfast and unyielding, their mouths tightly shut, as if they were defending their beliefs with their lives.

"Hmph, preferring death to surrender? Then I'll see just how resolute your will truly is!"
