Jia Long's bow and arrow gleamed coldly in the moonlight, the arrowhead pointing directly at Chen Zhennan, the taut string seeming ready to unleash a deadly arrow at any moment.
Chen Zhennan showed no fear, but his steps were slightly unsteady, as if he had used up all his strength with each step.
He slowly walked towards Jia Long, saying as he went, "Jia Long, there's no need for us to be so tense."
Gu Siyao gripped the dagger tightly to the side, her eyes fixed on Jia Long warily, like a mother leopard protecting her master.
As Chen Zhennan finished speaking, Jia Long's fingers finally loosened, and the bow and arrow slipped out with a dull thud.
Chen Zhennan walked unsteadily to Jia Long. Although the pain made every step extremely difficult for him, his eyes were very firm.
"Siyao, put down the dagger."
Gu Siyao hesitated for a moment, but ultimately obeyed Chen Zhennan's order. She removed the dagger from Jia Long's throat, the gleaming blade appearing particularly cold in the night.
“Jia Long, I don’t want to lecture you on grand principles today. I’ll just promise you one thing. If Jia Hu dies, I, Chen Zhennan, will definitely spare your life. You can always find another opportunity to seek revenge.”
After a pause, Chen Zhennan walked up to Jia Long and continued, "If Jia Hu survives this ordeal, then we'll call it even and let you two brothers go. But you must remember this: never cause me any more trouble, or I will make sure you two brothers are crushed to pieces, like ants being crushed."
Upon hearing this, Jia Long was greatly surprised. The offer sounded like a windfall, and he couldn't possibly lose out.
He frowned, weighed the pros and cons, gritted his teeth, and said, "Fine, Chen Zhennan, I'll trust you this time. However, I still want to ask you, what are your true thoughts about Feng Zirou's matter?"
Chen Zhennan slightly raised his head, a hint of guilt and helplessness flashing in his eyes, and let out a long sigh.
“Jia Long, when I sent them to the Great Zhou, I gave them strict orders. If the assassination was fraught with difficulties, they had to ensure their own safety, even if they couldn’t kill Zhou Jianjia. But who could have imagined that Feng Zirou was already pregnant with Song Xuan’s child and had already decided to die? I really knew nothing about these things.”
Chen Zhennan deeply regretted what happened to Feng Zirou. He had thought that the drug he had prepared would completely control Song Xuan, but he never expected that something would go wrong.
Man proposes, God disposes; and Feng Zirou said nothing, not even Gu Siyao, who was beside her, knew anything.
Upon hearing this, Jia Long flew into a rage, his eyes widening like saucers. He roared, "Chen Zhennan! What did you say? This is all your responsibility, Zirou..."
As Jia Long spoke, he seemed intent on continuing to dredge up old grievances.
Chen Zhennan was already feeling extremely annoyed, and now he was even more furious. He suddenly raised his hand and slapped Jia Long across the face with a loud "smack".
Chen Zhennan frowned and angrily rebuked, "Jia Long, don't push your luck. Too much has happened tonight, I don't have time to waste arguing with you about these useless things."
As Chen Zhennan spoke, he reached out and picked up Jia Long's bow and arrow. He stroked the bow and arrow, his eyes filled with a complex emotion.
“This bow and arrow was crafted by my own hands. How can I allow you to use it to take my life?”
After saying that, he turned to look at Gu Siyao and said in a serious tone, "Siyao, you keep an eye on him. After Song Yunyang comes back, release him no matter whether Jia Hu is dead or alive."
After saying that, Chen Zhennan didn't look back and slowly walked towards the mass grave with his injured body.
Dragging his tired and battered body, Chen Zhennan hurriedly returned to the mass grave tunnel.
As soon as he entered the tunnel, he rushed straight to the infirmary at the very back, urgently calling out to the medic, "Quick, quick, treat my wound."
The military doctor quickly got to work, his expression as focused as if he were carving a rare treasure.
After a quick bandage, Chen Zhennan didn't stop for a moment and turned around to leave the tunnel.
His heart was filled with concern for Song Yunyang's safety, and he only wanted to see her as soon as possible.
As soon as they came out, they found that Song Yunyang had returned. Her face was as pale as paper, and an arrow was sticking out of her shoulder.
Chen Zhennan's heart clenched, and he rushed forward in a few quick steps, his face full of worry and anxiety, his eyes burning like two flames.
"Yunyang, are you alright?" Chen Zhennan's voice trembled slightly as he helped Song Yunyang walk into the tunnel.
Song Yunyang bit her lip, enduring the pain, and said, "I'm fine, I was just accidentally injured by a stray arrow. I took down that sharpshooter, but it doesn't seem to be Jia Long, and the weapon he used wasn't anything special."
Her brows were furrowed, and large beads of sweat rolled down her forehead, yet she still tried to appear strong.
"You killed him?"
"Yes, I shot him dead. I shot him right through the eye socket. Surprising, isn't it?"
Chen Zhennan grunted. He was indeed surprised by this result. Although he didn't know how good Jia Hu's archery skills were, he was sure they were no worse than Jia Long's.
"That was quite unexpected. I never imagined you were such a good archer. That man wasn't Jia Long, it was his younger brother, Jia Hu."
As he spoke, Chen Zhennan suddenly stopped and turned to the team members behind him, ordering, "Go find Gu Siyao and tell her to kill Jia Long!"
"yes!"
Upon hearing Chen Zhennan's words, Song Yunyang was taken aback and looked at him with some dissatisfaction.
"Now I understand, the person next to Gu Siyao is Jia Long. Judging from your reaction, you must have promised to let him live, right?"
Chen Zhennan took a deep breath and helped Song Yunyang continue walking inside.
