Chapter 18 Is she the reincarnation of the Immaculate Giant?
Lin Wei's body trembled under Chen Zhennan's punches and kicks. His face was covered with bruises and blood, and his eyes were swollen shut from the heavy blows.
Lin Wei's consciousness gradually blurred. Just then, Song Yunyang finally stepped forward and said with concern, "That's enough, Chen Zhennan. If this continues, someone will die."
Chen Zhennan stopped what he was doing, turned to look at Song Yunyang, and nodded with a slight smile.
He reluctantly released his hand, dusted himself off, and turned his gaze to the dozen or so guards standing to one side.
"Take your master back. I'm warning you, anyone who causes me trouble again will die!"
The guards breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly stepped forward to help Lin Wei up. They moved very carefully, afraid of angering Chen Zhennan.
With their help, Lin Wei was dragged out of the command tent, leaving behind a mess.
Inside the tent, Chen Zhennan, Song Yunyang, and Song Yunming looked at each other, and all three couldn't help but laugh.
Song Yunyang's smile carried a hint of relief: "Chen Zhennan, you went too far. Lin Wei is, after all, an official appointed by the imperial court."
Chen Zhennan shrugged dismissively: "If you don't teach this kind of scoundrel a lesson, he won't learn his lesson."
Song Yunming's laughter carried a hint of helplessness, but after a moment, his expression turned gloomy.
"Lin Wei is, after all, the deputy commander-in-chief appointed by the Emperor. He certainly won't let this go easily after being beaten. The Emperor can't do anything to you, but he will definitely make things difficult for my sister. What should we do?"
Song Yunyang frowned slightly. Her brother's words made sense. She turned to look at Chen Zhennan and nodded slightly.
Chen Zhennan seemed indifferent, his face full of disdain. "When soldiers come, we'll block them; when water comes, we'll dam it. A general in the field may disobey the emperor's orders. Just ignore Jiang Wenyu's words. If Lin Wei is looking for death again, I'll grant him his wish."
...
Lin Wei was carried back to the camp, and the guards around him looked tense and their faces were full of worry.
As he gradually regained consciousness, a surge of anger welled up in Lin Wei's heart. He slightly raised his head and saw that the guards' gazes were like knives, piercing straight into his heart.
"You bunch of good-for-nothings, you were actually scared so badly by Chen Zhennan alone!"
Lin Wei was furious, his voice low yet authoritative, as if declaring his dissatisfaction.
The guards exchanged glances, secretly sneering.
Although they were indeed afraid of Chen Zhennan's martial arts skills, it was ridiculous that Lin Wei, who had just been beaten so badly that he didn't even have the courage to fight back, still dared to blame them.
Lin Wei clenched his teeth, wishing he could devour Chen Zhennan alive. However, seeing the lowered eyes of his guards, he abandoned the idea of attacking Chen Zhennan again.
"Go and prepare the brush, ink, paper, and inkstone!"
Lin Wei waved his hand to send the guards away, a sinister plan forming in his mind.
He sat at the table, his heart aching, yet his hands began to fly across the paper. His pen moved across the page, the characters as sharp as a knife, and the contents of the memorial gradually took shape.
"Chen Zhennan, I'll make sure you die by my hand!"
As he wrote, he secretly vowed to make a big fuss about this matter and let the Emperor know what Chen Zhennan had done.
"Your Majesty, I, your humble servant Lin Wei, am filled with fear and trepidation. Today, I was attacked by the traitor Chen Zhennan in the army without cause. One of my guards was killed by him. I am loyal and devoted, yet I have suffered such a calamity. I am deeply grieved and hope to be granted the authority to execute Chen Zhennan first and report later, so as to eliminate this great threat to Your Majesty."
...
The next morning, as dawn broke, Chen Zhennan carefully examined the map drawn by Song Yunming in his tent, his brow furrowed.
The markings on the map were vastly different from the terrain he remembered, which made him suspicious.
"Yunyang, Yunming, something doesn't look right on the map. We need to go out and take a look ourselves."
Upon hearing this, Song Yunyang and Song Yunming immediately agreed, and the three of them set off together for Tianyang Mountain outside Tianyang Pass. This was the highest peak in the vicinity and the best place to survey the terrain.
Standing atop Tianyang Mountain, Chen Zhennan frowned and stared intently, carefully observing the surrounding terrain.
Time passed by, and he was so engrossed in watching that he seemed to have become one with the natural environment around him.
Just then, Song Yunyang's eyes widened suddenly, her expression changed drastically, as if she sensed something was wrong.
She suddenly drew her sword from her waist, the blade flashing. Chen Zhennan was startled by her reaction and turned around to see footsteps coming from the west.
Dozens of men in black surged in from all directions, each with a gloomy face and holding sharp swords in their hands, like a pack of hungry wolves, closing in.
The leader of the group, a man in black, wielded a giant axe. He was burly and had a ferocious face, clearly the leader of the group.
Who is Chen Zhennan?
“I am. You bandits aren’t from Tianyang Mountain, are you?” Chen Zhennan stepped forward without fear.
The leader was taken aback, clearly not expecting Chen Zhennan to be so calm, and asked in return, "How do you know we are bandits?"
Chen Zhennan sneered, "I've fought in the north and south for many years, and I've been to Tianyang Mountain more than once. I wiped out the bandits here long ago. Oh, by the way, you guys were hired, weren't you?"
The bandits exchanged glances, then answered bluntly, "That's right, we've been hired to take your life!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than the leader shouted, "Kill!" Dozens of bandits suddenly swarmed forward.
Just as Chen Zhennan was about to lead Song Yunyang and her brother out to fight their way out, the sound of horses' hooves rang out again nearby, and a group of cavalrymen dressed in black and wearing red cloaks suddenly charged out.
These men, wielding long knives, began to slash and kill the bandits as soon as they appeared. In no time, all the bandits were wiped out by this cavalry that had descended from the sky.
Song Yunyang and Song Yunming were dumbfounded. The cavalry of the Great Yan was all in Song Yunming's hands. Even the most elite cavalry did not have such formidable combat power.
The battle ended in the blink of an eye. The cavalrymen sheathed their swords, and one of them dismounted and knelt down in front of Chen Zhennan, taking out a secret letter from his pocket.
Song Yunyang then realized that these cavalrymen were all Chen Zhennan's men.
Chen Zhennan took the secret letter, tore it open decisively, and read it carefully.
"You bastard! You want to start a two-front war, collect taxes, and even send Song Xuan to lead the attack on Lingnan."
Chen Zhennan was so angry he laughed, and he smashed the secret letter to pieces.
Song Yunyang leaned closer and asked in confusion, "What do you mean? Does Wu Yunyin want to start a war?"
Chen Zhennan nodded slightly: "That's right, she also wants to fight Lingnan and Dayan at the same time. Is she the reincarnation of the Immaculate Giant?"
"Immaculate, a giant? What is that?"
“Uh…” Chen Zhennan twitched the corner of his mouth and explained, “They’re people with open heads but no brains. Let’s not talk about that. These bandits were probably hired by Lin Wei. I have to give them a way out and let them voluntarily seek death.”
