Chapter Ninety-Nine: I wouldn't go if it weren't a trap.

Chen Zhennan stood there quietly, his eyes tightly closed, like a majestic mountain, calm and resolute.

He had waited far too long for this moment.

Now, the great moment of unifying the three kingdoms has finally arrived. From now on, his life of conquest with swords and spears will become a thing of the past. The battlefields that were once filled with the smoke and fire of war will no longer require him to fight bravely and shed blood.

Behind Chen Zhennan, Li Mingzhe walked slowly toward his father, Li Guangyi, with heavy but firm steps.

Upon arriving before his father, he knelt heavily on both knees without hesitation, the sound like a dull drumbeat striking the earth.

Li Mingzhe raised his head and said excitedly, "Father, you don't know this, but Chen Zhennan treats the people like his own children. He personally led his soldiers to build roads and bridges tirelessly, without ever slacking off."

Upon hearing this, Li Guangyi frowned slightly and asked in a deep voice, "Mingzhe, have you been threatened? Chen Zhennan is the emperor of the Great Yan Dynasty. How could he be so friendly to the people of my Great Zhou Dynasty?"

Li Mingzhe slowly shook his head and explained, "Father, I also participated in it and witnessed it all. Although the people in Chen Zhennan's jurisdiction have not yet reached a state of abundance, next spring, they will be able to cultivate their own fields, and from then on, there will be no more exploitation like before."

Li Guangyi listened to his son's words, his brows furrowed tightly, his face full of doubt and disbelief.

"Have you been bewitched? How can there be such a perfect person in this world?"

Li Mingzhe quickly shook his head and eagerly defended himself, saying, "Father, everything I have said is true, not a single word is false. The unification of the three kingdoms is an inevitable trend. If you don't believe me, wait until the time is right and go and see for yourself to see for yourself."

Although Li Guangyi was still full of doubts, he could only sigh helplessly and give up for the time being in the face of his son's firm attitude.

Chen Zhennan turned to look at Li Guangyi and said with a slight smile, "Old Marshal, I can understand your feelings, but the trend of the times is inevitable, and we must not go against the will of Heaven."

Li Guangyi smiled faintly: "Going against the will of Heaven? Are you Heaven?"

Chen Zhennan blinked, then said, "Perhaps I am not now, but a hundred years from now, everyone will remember me."

Li Guangyi didn't say anything more. This young man in front of him was really too different.

Turning around, Chen Zhennan laughed heartily, "Gentlemen, today is a joyous day. Let's continue drinking and share in this peaceful world!"

After saying that, he joined the crowd and drank heartily with the officials of the Great Zhou.

In an instant, laughter and cheerful voices echoed throughout the space. The crisp sound of clinking glasses was like a beautiful melody, and the air was filled with a festive atmosphere, as if even the surrounding air had been infected by this joyful ambiance and become lighter.

After several rounds of drinks and several dishes, the banquet gradually came to an end.

Chen Zhennan, with Song Yunyang in tow, mounted his horse and galloped up the mountain.

Upon reaching the top of the mountain, they reined in their horses and gazed into the distance.

Below the mountain, thousands of lights shone like stars scattered across the land, or like a winding, shimmering Milky Way—a breathtaking sight.

Song Yunyang took a deep breath, turned to look at Chen Zhennan, her eyes filled with love and admiration.

"Chen Zhennan, you have accomplished a feat that no one has achieved in thousands of years. What do you want to do next?"

Chen Zhennan dismounted and sat gently on the ground.

"There is still much to be done. I want to change the landscape of the times. Only when the feudal dynasties gradually disappear will true peace come."

Song Yunyang also dismounted and slowly sat down next to Chen Zhennan.

"These are all things you want to do in the future. What do you want to do most right now?"

"Now?"

As he spoke, Chen Zhennan slowly turned his head to look at Song Yunyang.

"I want to return to the Great Wu, formally ascend the throne, and then make you my empress, the mother of the nation."

Song Yunyang had been waiting for these words, and she could no longer suppress the smile on her face.

"So, when are we going back?"

Seeing Song Yunyang's bewildered expression, Chen Zhennan couldn't help but laugh.

"You seem very anxious, but it's not possible now. There are still people in the capital of Dawu who haven't self-destructed yet."

"Self-destruction?"

Song Yunyang thought for a long time before suddenly realizing what was going on.

"Oh! I see, you're waiting for Zhou Xiang, but isn't he your man? What are you waiting for?"

Hearing Song Yunyang's question, Chen Zhennan couldn't help but let out a soft hum.

“It is precisely because he is my man that I understand his character. I previously ordered him not to harm the people in the slightest, but he chose to ignore it.”

Song Yunyang frowned slightly, connecting Chen Zhennan's words to her own thoughts, and suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.

"You want to get rid of him? Chen Zhennan, Zhou Xiang followed you in battles across the country and made great contributions. If you kill a meritorious person, won't you end up on the same path as Wu Yunyin?"

Chen Zhennan waved his hand slightly and smiled confidently.

"Don't worry, I know where the problem lies. I won't touch the wrong Wu Yunyin made. As for Zhou Xiang, he did follow me in battles across the country, but in the eyes of the people, he is worthless."

These words frightened Song Yunyang. Although the three kingdoms had been unified, Chen Zhennan had not yet been to the Great Yan. Song Yunyang did not want her subordinates to be eliminated one by one by Chen Zhennan.

"Alright, Yunyang, don't overthink these things. I always calculate the pros and cons before I do anything. I keep track of what I lose and what I gain."

After speaking, Chen Zhennan slowly got up, mounted his horse, and took Song Yunyang down the mountain to rest.
