Chapter Sixty-Five: I Can't Add Insult to Injury

"Only now does Wu Yunyin realize her mistakes? Did she ever imagine that this day would come when she was so stubborn, arrogant, and self-important? Can the mistakes she made be made up for by this mere edict of self-reproach?"

The envoy's expression changed slightly. "General, His Majesty is sincerely repenting. Aren't you disrespecting His Majesty by doing this?"

Chen Zhennan suddenly stood up, his eyes flashing like lightning, and shouted, "Shut up! Wu Yunyin ignored loyal advice and acted recklessly back then, causing the deaths of many loyal ministers and generals. She is only resorting to this desperate measure because of the circumstances. How could I, the commander, be so easily fooled by her?"

A tense atmosphere immediately filled the tent, and the soldiers around gripped their weapons tightly, as if they would capture the special envoy at Chen Zhennan's command.

Seeing this, the envoy was frightened and dared not say anything more. He just lowered his head and trembled.

Chen Zhennan crossed his arms, seemingly deep in thought, but he was actually quite calm.

After a long silence, Chen Zhennan finally spoke slowly, "I will help her quell the war in the west, but there is one condition: the thirteen states of the customs must be handed over to me first."

Upon hearing this, the envoy was overjoyed and quickly said, "Marshal Chen, Her Majesty the Empress has already decreed that all thirteen prefectures of the customs will be handed over to you, Marshal. We only ask that you show mercy and release the 100,000 troops of Tianyang Pass."

Chen Zhennan slightly raised his eyes, a complex look flashing in them. He paced around the tent, saying as he walked, "Wu Yunyin was ungrateful to me before. I fought for her on the battlefield and made great contributions, but she listened to the words of treacherous people and wanted to kill me. But I cannot kick her when she is down."

At this point, he stopped and turned to face the special envoy, his expression serious: "Go back and tell Wu Yunyin that I, Chen Zhennan, keep my word. However, she should not try any more tricks or schemes, or she will not forgive me for not showing any mercy."

The special envoy hurriedly bowed and said, "Your Excellency is very righteous. I will certainly report back to Your Majesty truthfully."
