Chapter 109 Lifting a stone only to drop it on one's own foot

Zhou Xiang stood on the mountain, listening to the thunderous explosions that suddenly erupted behind him from below. The explosions echoed through the valley, making the ground beneath his feet seem to tremble slightly.

His heart pounded with the sound of the explosion, and his eyes were fixed on the commotion below the mountain.

"It seems this kid wasn't just bluffing. The entire army is retreating to join up with the reinforcements down the mountain!"

Wang Lei stood still, his eyes blazing, silently watching Zhou Xiang lead his troops away in haste.

His figure appeared exceptionally resolute in the night, like an unshakeable mountain.

Before long, Zhou Xiang's men had disappeared into the night, and Wang Lei finally breathed a long sigh of relief.

A wave of fear washed over him, and he muttered to himself, "Damn it, I only have 20,000 men. If Zhou Xiang hadn't chickened out, I really wouldn't know what to do."

His voice carried a hint of relief; Song Yunyang had only given him 20,000 men to create a show of force, yet they had successfully scared off Zhou Xiang's 70,000-strong army.

With a solemn expression, Wang Lei instructed his subordinates to immediately inform Song Yunyang of Zhou Xiang's retreat.

Then, he took the lead and led everyone to rush towards the top of the mountain.

The mountaintop was a strategic location, a place that seemed to be fought over by military strategists. As soon as Wang Lei and his group arrived, they quickly set up a campfire.

In an instant, flames soared into the sky, the raging fire resembling a ferocious fire dragon dancing wildly in the darkness, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle of a vast army and a powerful force.

Meanwhile, Chen Zhennan and Song Yunyang listened anxiously to the explosions coming from the other side of the mountain.

Chen Zhennan frowned, his eyes fixed on the direction from which the sound came, his hands unconsciously clenching into fists.

"What are you thinking about?" Song Yunyang asked in a low voice.

Chen Zhennan sighed and slowly explained, "Of course I'm thinking about how many people will die. You know me, I don't want to fight."

Upon hearing this, Song Yunyang shook her head with a wry smile and said nothing more. She knew Chen Zhennan's personality well, and this was the last thing he wanted to see.

Before long, the messenger Wang Lei sent returned like a whirlwind.

He was panting heavily, his face covered in dust, when he knelt on one knee before Song Yunyang, his voice tinged with excitement: "Reporting to the Marshal, Zhou Xiang has already withdrawn his troops."

Upon hearing this, Chen Zhennan's tense face finally broke into a relieved smile.

Seeing this, Song Yunyang smiled and nodded, saying, "You've worked hard, get up and go rest."

The messenger grunted in acknowledgment and had just stood up when suddenly, an arrow flew like a meteor, its speed as fast as lightning slicing through the night sky.

With a "whoosh," the arrow pierced the messenger's neck, and blood gushed out instantly, splattering onto the ground.

The arrow, carrying a powerful impact, nearly struck Chen Zhennan, who was standing right next to it.

This sudden turn of events sent chills down everyone's spines. Chen Zhennan's expression changed drastically, and he shouted, "Oh no!"

Then, Chen Zhennan hurriedly pulled Song Yunyang behind the box, catching Song Yunyang off guard by the sudden attack.

She frowned slightly, a hint of annoyance in her eyes, and gritted her teeth as she said, "Who is this person? Such sharp archery skills!"

Ignoring Chen Zhennan's attempts to stop her, she suddenly peeked out, searching carefully for the archer like a wary little deer.

Seeing this, Chen Zhennan grabbed Song Yunyang and said anxiously, "Yunyang, are you out of your mind! That Jia Long is a sharpshooter who can hit a target from a hundred paces away. If you recklessly peek out like this, aren't you just courting death!"

Upon hearing Jia Long's name, Song Yunyang's heart skipped a beat, and images from the past instantly flashed through her mind.

At that time, he and Chen Zhennan were enemies on the battlefield. His two vanguards were both battle-hardened warriors, but they were easily killed by this sharpshooter named Jia Long, as if he were shooting a wild rabbit.

Thinking of this, Song Yunyang's eyes filled with hatred.

Chen Zhennan pursed his lips and shouted to the special forces soldiers on guard nearby, "He's on the east side. All of you, spread out and make sure you take him out!"

At Chen Zhennan's command, the two hundred special forces soldiers, like agile cheetahs, quickly dispersed, spreading out in all directions like a fine net, to search for Jia Long, who had disappeared like a ghost.

Looking at Song Yunyang again, she slowly stood up from behind the box, her figure as upright as a green bamboo.

With a determined look, she beckoned to the side, summoning an archer with a strong voice. She deftly took the bow and arrows and slung them over her shoulder.

Chen Zhennan was taken aback upon seeing this, his eyes widening slightly as he asked Song Yunyang with a puzzled look, "What are you trying to do?"

Song Yunyang raised an eyebrow, her eyes revealing a stubbornness and confidence. She put her hands on her hips and said loudly, "I'm also a sharpshooter. Today I will personally kill that Jia Long to eliminate future troubles!"

Her words carried an undeniable resolve, as if she could already see Jia Long being pierced through the heart by her arrow.

Chen Zhennan twitched the corner of his mouth, a worried look on his face. He hurriedly stood up, trying to stop Song Yunyang, and said urgently, "Yunyang, don't be impulsive. You don't know, Jia Long's bow and arrow were designed by me personally, and they are extremely powerful. Your ordinary bow and arrow are nothing compared to his."

Song Yunyang curled her lip, her face full of disdain. She snorted and said, "I don't believe it! That Jia Long is just a guy who knows how to play some tricks. I, Song Yunyang, have been on the battlefield for many years. Why would I be afraid of him?"

After saying that, she chased after the special forces team like a gust of wind.
