Just as Chen Zhennan was racking his brains trying to figure out how to kill Jia Long, another arrow came whistling through the air, its sound like the roar of a demon.
The arrow traced a perfect arc through the air, shooting straight towards Chen Zhennan with such force that it pierced through the large tree behind him.
The arrow, like a sharp fang, pierced Chen Zhennan's back.
Chen Zhennan's eyes widened in shock and anger. He endured the excruciating pain without making a sound.
After a two-second pause, Chen Zhennan suddenly took a step forward, as if using all his strength, and finally got rid of the arrow.
He could feel that although the wound wasn't deep, the sensation of the cold arrow piercing his body sent chills down his spine.
He secretly rejoiced; if it weren't for the tree trunk, the arrow would have pierced his heart.
Chen Zhennan dragged his injured body and slowly squatted down, knowing that Jia Long had firmly locked onto his location.
Although the injury to his back was not fatal, every movement felt like a thousand ants gnawing at his heart, and trying to escape this place was harder than climbing to heaven.
If they run away like this, sooner or later Jia Long will catch up with them like an eagle catching a chick.
Gritting his teeth, Chen Zhennan rolled over and lay face down on the ground, his eyes scanning his surroundings warily. He shouted, "Jia Long, I know it's you! Do we want to talk?"
The sound echoed in the silence, but it was like a stone sinking into the sea; the other party did not give any verbal response.
Immediately afterwards, an arrow came whistling like a meteor, and with a "whoosh," it struck the ground next to Chen Zhennan, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Chen Zhennan's heart tightened, and large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead. He gritted his teeth and shouted again, "Jia Long! I have always treated you well. We have known each other for many years and have gone through thick and thin together. Now you want to kill me. What good will that do you? Is it just for Zhou Xiang? We both come from our hometown in Lingnan. Are our past friendships just like fleeting clouds, leaving not a trace?"
Chen Zhennan's voice carried a hint of pleading, yet also a touch of resentment; this was the first time he had ever been so humble.
After a long while, the other side finally responded. Jia Long slowly emerged from his hiding place, his eyes burning with fury, his bow and arrow still aimed at Chen Zhennan.
"I'm not doing this for Zhou Xiang. That idiot is like an ant trying to shake a tree; he's no match for you, and he's bound to lose. Even if I kill you today, he's still no match for Song Yunyang. I'm killing you because of me, Feng Zirou!"
Upon hearing this, Chen Zhennan's eyes widened, and a wave of guilt washed over him, as if it were a surging tide.
His lips trembled slightly as Feng Zirou's face flashed through his mind. But in an instant, he sensed something was amiss and couldn't help but ask, "As far as I know, you and Feng Zirou seem to have no connection. Why are you trying to kill me because of her?"
Upon hearing this, Jia Long's anger intensified, his face contorting like a volcano about to erupt.
His face flushed red, veins bulged on his neck, and he gripped the bow and arrow tightly in his hands, as if the bow and arrow were the only outlet for his anger.
“Feng Zirou is my uncle’s daughter, that’s my cousin! I thought she would be safe with you. But I never expected you, Chen Zhennan, to be so heartless as to send two weak women to infiltrate Song Xuan. It’s like sending lambs to the slaughter.”
After a pause, Jia Long took a deep breath and continued, "Later, you even sent the two of them deep into the Great Zhou to assassinate Zhou Jianjia. Is the Great Zhou a place to be trifled with? Your actions are unworthy of a man; you are a thoroughly despicable villain!"
Jia Long's voice echoed through the valley, filled with endless anger and resentment, as if the entire air was ignited by his fury.
Chen Zhennan was visibly surprised. He had rescued Feng Zirou from a brothel years ago, but he never expected her to be Jia Long's cousin.
"I do feel guilty towards Feng Zirou, but I have a question: who is that sharpshooter who was with you?"
Chen Zhennan is now completely certain that there is another archer working with Jia Long, and that the archery skills are also excellent.
"The commander is indeed the commander. When the two of us attacked at once, you were able to detect that there were two people. That's right, there was another person, my younger brother, Jia Hu."
Upon hearing this, Chen Zhennan couldn't help but let out a cold snort.
"Jia Long! You call me a villain, but what about you? Jia Hu is being hunted down by my special forces, along with Song Yunyang. He's doomed!"
"That's my own business! I don't care about any grand principles; I only know that I must avenge whoever harmed my family! Zhou Jianjia is dead, and Zirou is dead too. I can only settle this score with you!"
Jia Long's gaze was cold. He drew his longbow, and the arrow shot out with a "whoosh".
The arrow hurtled toward its target like a shooting star. As soon as it was released, he reached out again without hesitation to draw an arrow from the quiver on his back.
Just then, a gleaming dagger, as if a ghost, silently pressed against his throat.
Who is it?
"Gu Siyao!"
The newcomer was Gu Siyao. She had originally been raised by Chen Zhennan in Qingzhou City, but since Chen Zhennan returned, Gu Siyao had sneaked out of Qingzhou City.
Gu Siyao's eyes were icy cold, like a bottomless pool of ice. She coldly shouted, "Jia Long, put down your bow and arrows, or my dagger will have no eyes and take your dog's life right now!"
Jia Long's brows furrowed deeply, like two angry black worms writhing on his forehead. He glared and retorted, "Gu Siyao, don't forget, Feng Zirou went through thick and thin with you. She died in Da Zhou, and it was all Chen Zhennan's fault. Yet you still follow him so devotedly. Don't you even think about avenging Feng Zirou?"
