Chapter Thirty-Eight: I Promise to Marry You

Inside the command tent, the atmosphere was heavy, and Song Yunyang and Jiang Wenyu's gazes clashed in silence.

Finally, Song Yunyang broke the silence and walked firmly toward Jiang Wenyu.

A guard nervously stopped her and ordered her to hand over her weapon.

Song Yunyang gave her a cold glance and snapped, "Get out of here."

The guard was speechless. Jiang Wenyu waved for the guard to leave, leaving only the two of them in the tent.

Song Yunyang gripped the dagger tightly, her gaze as cold as icicles in the dead of winter, staring straight at Jiang Wenyu.

"I will never marry you!"

Jiang Wenyu seemed to have anticipated this answer. He remained calm and composed, a confident smile playing on his lips: "Yunyang, I can grant you any request. As long as you make it, I will agree to it."

Upon hearing this, Song Yunyang sneered inwardly. She suddenly drew her dagger, and the moment it left its sheath, it was like a lightning bolt slicing through the night sky, aimed directly at Jiang Wenyu.

"I have no other conditions, I only ask that you let me leave this land of Great Yan, and from now on we will live in peace and never interfere with each other."

Song Yunyang knew in her heart that Jiang Wenyu seemed generous, but in reality he was treacherous and cunning, and being with him would definitely not end well.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Wenyu's face immediately darkened. Naturally, he would not agree to the request. In his view, Song Yunyang was like prey that had been caught, and he could not let her go so easily.

"Hmph, want to leave? That's wishful thinking!"

Upon hearing this, Song Yunyang felt a surge of anger, her eyes seemingly spitting fire.

"Since that's the case, then today it's a fight to the death!"

Jiang Wenyu couldn't help but laugh, a laugh full of mockery.

He then slowly clapped his hands, the sound of which was particularly jarring in the silent tent.

Outside the main tent, a group of imperial guards, like wolves and tigers, escorted in a dozen or so armored generals.

The generals were all disheveled, and their armor was covered in dust, clearly indicating that they had suffered a great deal of torment.

Song Yunyang turned her head and couldn't help but gasp. These people were all her subordinates who had risked their lives for her, including a valiant female general.

Her heart clenched suddenly, as if gripped tightly by an invisible hand.

Suppressing her anger and grief, Song Yunyang coldly questioned Jiang Wenyu: "What exactly do you want? Your actions are utterly despicable, shameless, and insane!"

Jiang Wenyu snorted coldly and waved his hand slightly again, the movement so casual that it was as if he were swatting away a fly.

The next second, a guard, like an executioner granted a pardon, raised his gleaming longsword without hesitation.

With a swift movement, he beheaded a vanguard without hesitation.

The vanguard's head rolled to the ground, blood gushing out and splattering onto the people around him, instantly filling the air with a strong smell of blood.

Song Yunyang's eyes were bloodshot as she stared intently at Jiang Wenyu.

"Yunyang, people are fickle, especially women. I'll give you time to think it over. Death and wealth are just a thought away, so don't make the wrong choice."

After speaking, Jiang Wenyu led his men out of the tent slowly and then ordered them to keep a close watch on the place.

Looking at the head that remained open in death, Song Yunyang's legs went weak and she knelt heavily on the ground.

"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry! Chen Zhennan, where are you?"

...

The back of Cuiming Mountain is gloomy, with mass graves stretching across it, resembling a desolate city of tombs.

Ma Ying, the captain of the caravan escorting the silver, was extremely anxious.

His eyes searched anxiously, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead, but all he could see were rows of desolate graves in the mass grave, with no sign of Chen Zhennan.

Ma Ying paced anxiously across the mass grave, like an ant on a hot pan.

He knew that Song Yunyang's arrest was urgent, and if he couldn't inform Chen Zhennan as soon as possible, Song Yunyang's chances of survival would be slim.

"General, where are you?"

Ma Ying muttered to herself, her voice tinged with despair.

Right at Ma Ying's feet, in the tunnel of the mass grave, Chen Zhennan was intently sharpening a gun barrel.

Chen Zhennan frowned deeply. He had failed five times already, and this time he was determined to make a standard model no matter what.

However, the more cautious he was, the more inexplicably agitated he became.

Those failed images kept replaying in my mind, like a group of lingering ghosts.

"Why!"

Chen Zhennan sighed inwardly, and finally put down his tools and lay down on the bed to rest, exhausted.

In this dark and sunless tunnel, Chen Zhennan had long lost the concept of time.

He felt as if the whole world had forgotten him here, and loneliness washed over him like a tide.

At this moment, his mind was filled with Song Yunyang's image. He worried about her safety one moment and recalled the little things they had done together in the past the next.

Just as Chen Zhennan was lost in thought, one of his subordinates slowly walked over.

The subordinate's footsteps were very light, as if afraid of disturbing Chen Zhennan, but in the quiet tunnel, the faint footsteps could still be heard.

The subordinate approached Chen Zhennan and whispered, "Commander, it seems there are people moving around up there."

Chen Zhennan sat up abruptly, a hint of alertness flashing in his eyes, and hurriedly asked, "How many people are there?"

The subordinate replied somewhat nervously, "General, there are quite a few of them. Judging from their commotion, they seem to be up to no good."

Chen Zhennan shook his head slightly, a hint of caution in his eyes, and said in a low voice, "All's fair in war. We shouldn't expose ourselves now. Let's wait and see."

The subordinate nodded silently and then quietly withdrew, and the tunnel returned to a deathly silence, with only the oil lamp still flickering defiantly.
