The two of them fiddled with each other, applying makeup to one another; the scene was truly chaotic and frantic.
After finishing their makeup, the two looked at each other, and that one look almost scared the other out of their wits.
Their faces looked as if they were possessed by evil spirits, with blue faces and fangs, almost indistinguishable from ghosts.
Chen Zhennan couldn't help but shudder. Even he, an atheist, felt terrified. He was sure he would be scared to death by Zhang Quan.
Chen Zhennan gritted his teeth and whispered, "Let's go in!"
Subsequently, the two climbed over the wall and entered Zhang's residence.
As soon as they landed, they crouched down like two frightened mice, their eyes darting left and right like searchlights. But the mansion was as quiet as a dead city, and there wasn't a single person in sight.
Chen Zhennan's eyes darted around, and he lowered his voice and said, "We're ghosts now, so stand up and go in openly and honestly. Pull out your knife."
As they spoke, the two of them stood up as if they were two fickle ghosts emerging from hell.
Yan Shiyu drew his long sword from his waist with a "whoosh" and followed closely behind Chen Zhennan.
The two swaggered into the cold stone path of the mansion, their demeanor as relaxed as if they were returning to their own home.
Just as they were about to reach the inner courtyard, two figures suddenly appeared on the mottled wall of the inner courtyard, like ghosts that appeared out of nowhere.
One of them saw Chen Zhennan and his companion, snorted coldly, and shouted, "Stop! Who are you?"
Upon hearing the shout, Chen Zhennan and Yan Shiyu stopped in their tracks and slowly looked up at the two people on the wall.
Neither of them spoke; they simply watched each other silently, their eyes revealing an unfathomable, sinister quality.
By the dim moonlight, the two people on the wall could make out Chen Zhennan and his companion's faces and attire. One of them turned green with fright, like a mouse seeing a cat, and with a scream, fell off the wall.
Chen Zhennan slightly raised his arm, the wide sleeves covering his hands like a black curtain, making him look like a ghost messenger from the underworld summoning the dead.
Chen Zhennan slowly pointed to the person who had fallen, the movement like a slow-motion scene in a movie, full of eeriness.
Yan Shiyu immediately understood. He gripped the long sword tightly, his face expressionless, but his eyes revealed a cold killing intent.
He walked slowly toward the man, his steps light and airy, like a gust of cold wind or a weightless ghost drifting by.
As the distance closed little by little, the man trembled with fear, like a leaf in the wind, his eyes fixed on Yan Shiyu, who looked like a demon, filled with terror and despair.
Seeing this, the other person on the wall became anxious and loudly warned him to move aside.
"Brother, get out of the way! These two things are really weird!"
But the person who had fallen to the ground was so terrified that he couldn't hear anything anymore. He was frozen in place, unable to move.
Yan Shiyu walked closer, raised his knife, and with a swift motion, severed the man's head as easily as cutting tofu.
Blood splattered on the ground, and the stench of blood instantly filled the air, making the already eerie and terrifying atmosphere even more chilling.
The other person on the wall witnessed the bloody scene before him, his eyes widened, and his breathing became extremely rapid, like a broken bellows struggling to pull.
His legs trembled uncontrollably as if their tendons and bones had been removed, and he pressed himself tightly against the wall, as if he had been frozen in place, not daring to move an inch.
Chen Zhennan's face was ashen, like a demon emerging from hell, as he slowly walked to Yan Shiyu's side.
He bent down, reached out, and grabbed the blood-soaked head from the ground, which was still dripping with blood. The blood on the head slowly flowed down his fingers, like a winding blood snake.
Then, he turned to look at the person on the wall, his eyes gleaming with a cold light that seemed capable of freezing a person instantly.
Chen Zhennan blinked, his throat felt like it was choked by something, and he said in a voice that was almost as hoarse as a broken gong, "Every wrong has its perpetrator and every debt its debtor. Your lifespan is not over yet, so leave quickly to save your life."
Upon hearing this, the man on the wall felt as if he had received a decree granting amnesty to the world, and instantly breathed a sigh of relief.
He swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. He carefully jumped down from the wall and walked towards the door.
However, his legs were weak and powerless, and every step he took felt like walking on cotton. His pace was as slow as a snail's crawl, as if he was afraid that he might accidentally anger the "ghost messengers" behind him.
Chen Zhennan sneered, slowly pulled out his pistol, and aimed it at the back of the man's head. There was no pity in his eyes, just like a hunter eyeing his prey.
"Bang!"
With a gunshot, and a burst of brilliant sparks, a bullet, like a beast unleashed from its cage, pierced the back of the man's head.
The man didn't even utter a sound, his eyes widened, and his body suddenly fell forward.
Seeing this, Yan Shiyu's eyes were full of doubt, and he couldn't help but ask, "General, didn't you just say you were going to let him go?"
Chen Zhennan snorted lightly, a hint of disdain on his face, and said, "Shiyu, you are really too naive. They are responsible for guarding the home of a scoundrel like Zhang Quan. It is obvious that they are not good people. Letting him go will only leave endless trouble behind."
After saying that, Chen Zhennan ordered Yan Shiyu to cut off the man's head. The two of them, each holding a head, pushed open the door to the inner courtyard and slowly walked in.
The doors to the inner quarters creaked, sounding like the slow opening of the gates of hell, eerie and terrifying.
