Seeing that she didn't believe him, the man reminded her, "Do you need me to swear a solemn oath? If we delay any longer, the effects of the medicine will wear off."
Ah, that won't do. I can't go home empty-handed tonight. Judging from this person's appearance, he probably won't do anything bad. Never mind, Hong Xiaoduo didn't care about anything else: "Step back a little and stay a bit away from me."
Hong Xiaoduo couldn't feel comfortable turning her back to the stranger who had suddenly appeared.
However, she also realized a very serious problem: this person appeared behind her without her noticing at all, which showed how powerful this person was.
If he really is going against me, I probably can't beat him, right?
The man chuckled upon hearing this, actually took a few steps back, and then gestured with his hand that she could continue.
Hong Xiaoduo gritted her teeth and decided to go all out. She turned around to face the door, picked up the dagger in her hand, and was about to continue to try to unlock the door when she suddenly turned around again to see that the man was indeed still standing in the position she had just retreated to. Only then did she turn around and continue to fiddle with the door.
In period dramas, it's so easy for characters to unscrew a door, but why can't I do it myself?
The more anxious he became, the worse it got. Suddenly, he remembered something and turned around again.
When the man saw her looking at him again, he shrugged, indicating that he hadn't moved.
But she beckoned him to come forward, and the puzzled man stepped to her side.
"Well, you must be quite good at something as simple as opening a door, right?" Hong Xiaoduo tilted her head and asked him in a low voice.
The man was speechless. Who did she think she was? How could he possibly be good at this kind of thing? "You seem pretty capable, young lady. You can't even handle something this simple, can you?"
Hong Xiaoduo didn't feel embarrassed. Being bad at this kind of thing wasn't shameful: "To be honest, this is my first time doing this kind of thing, so I'm not very good at it. Could you please help me out?"
"I'm sorry, I've never done such a thing, so I wouldn't," the man replied rudely.
Seeing that he was unwilling to help, Hong Xiaoduo thought for a moment, shrugged, and said helplessly, "If you can't even open a door, then forget it." After saying that, she turned and left.
Seeing that she was giving up on leaving, the man instinctively stepped forward and stopped her: "Why are you leaving?"
"I can't even open a door, what am I supposed to do here? I'm done playing, it's no fun." With that, she walked past the man and continued on her way.
One step, two steps, three steps...
"Wait a minute, let me try." A man's voice came from behind.
Hong Xiaoduo stopped in her tracks. This trick actually worked? How bored must this person be to agree to help her open that door just for some entertainment?
She slowly turned around: "Isn't this inappropriate? You yourself said you've never done such a thing, so there's no need to make things difficult for yourself."
The man could tell she was saying it on purpose, but he had lost his temper and acted impulsively just now!
He stopped arguing with her and walked to the door, beckoning Hong Xiaoduo to come closer and extending his hand to her.
Seeing that he wanted the dagger in her hand, Hong Xiaoduo hesitated for a moment but still handed it over. However, after the other party took the dagger, she silently took a few steps back, creating what she considered a safe distance.
Seeing her like this, the man frowned. He had offered to help her, yet she still didn't trust him and was so wary of him?
He sighed inwardly, shook his head helplessly, inserted the dagger in his hand into the crack of the door, flicked it a few times, and gently pushed it open.
Huh? It's open? The person's guard has now disappeared, and they happily step forward.
The man gestured for her to enter. Hong Xiaoduo stepped forward, tapped his palm lightly, and whispered, "Pleasure doing business with you." Then, she walked inside.
The man stared blankly at his palm where she had struck him, his brows furrowing even more. How could they have cooperated so well? Who cooperated with her? He was just there to watch the show, so how did she label him an accomplice with a single sentence?
Coming to his senses, he stepped inside and saw that the person had already turned on the lights and gestured for him to close the door.
The man really didn't want to be bossed around, but when he heard footsteps approaching outside, he quickly closed the door.
The footsteps didn't stop outside; they went in the other direction, probably the servants of the mansion on patrol.
Then he saw the person inside tiptoeing towards the bedroom, and he followed.
She carefully rummaged through the contents, leaving the jewelry untouched, only taking the silver. After searching for a while, she frowned as she looked at the pile of silver in the bundle, clearly dissatisfied with her haul!
"Does Your Excellency know where people like them usually hide their gold, silver, or banknotes?" Hong Xiaoduo was losing patience, fearing that the two would wake up once the effects of the medicine wore off.
She wasn't afraid of being unable to defeat the unscrupulous couple when they woke up, but she was worried that if the commotion got too big, she wouldn't be able to handle the series of troubles that followed!
Now that the room was lit, one could finally see the man's face clearly: a strong, agile physique, dressed in a blue robe, with resolute and bright eyes, a sword on one side and a soft whip hanging on the other.
"Hey? What a coincidence, we have the same equipment!" Hong Xiaoduo pointed to the other person's waist and said in surprise.
The man looked down, then at her waist. Sure enough, there was a sword and a whip! But, equipment? Did he mean weapons?
"Look at what's wrong with my brain, still talking about this? Let's get back to the point, hurry up and find me some money," Hong Xiaoduo urged anxiously.
Seeing her serious expression, the man realized she wasn't joking at all: "Why should I help you find money?"
"Why? You opened the door for me, so we're accomplices now. Of course you have to help me," Hong Xiaoduo said matter-of-factly.
