Chapter 16 The Constables Arrive

In recent years, natural disasters and man-made calamities, wars and chaos have made life unbearable for the people, and naturally, the number of beggars and vagrants has increased.

The authorities ordered that they not be expelled, and the local authorities were unable to take them all in and manage them. Therefore, they turned a blind eye to their wandering around and let them go.

As long as you don't cause trouble or make a scene when begging on the street, basically no one will step in to help you.

If he were to send all seven beggar children back to the yamen, the official would be furious, and he'd probably lose his job as a constable.

The head constable, eager to leave, was quite troubled when he saw someone beckoning to him from outside the crowd, so he went over.

"Brother Jin Hu, what are you doing? What happened?" The person who greeted him was a middle-aged man.

Jin Hu sighed and simply told him what had happened: "Hey? Wan Quan, don't you run an inn? Why don't you let them stay at your place for the night? They won't stay for free. That young lady has money; didn't you see she even bought new clothes for those kids?"

Business isn't good right now, and your guest rooms are all empty. Let them stay one night; just give them a large dormitory-style bed. It's just a hassle to clean up tomorrow.

"Huh?" Wan Quan frowned slightly upon hearing this: "I see. My business isn't doing well, but it's peaceful enough to leave it empty. I'm afraid it might cause trouble if they stay there."

"Get lost! You might say that to other people, but do you think I'd believe you if you complained to me? I can't speak for others, but with your inn, who would dare to cause trouble? Alright, stop pretending after taking advantage. If you really don't agree, I'll take them to stay at Old Yang's house." Jin Hu glared at him.

“Alright, alright, if others won’t do, then let’s have them come with me since Brother Jin Hu has spoken.” Wan Quan quickly agreed with a smile.

Once things were settled here, Constable Jin Hu waved to Hong Xiaoduo. She thought it wasn't a bad thing, so she walked over there, followed by a string of beggar children.

Approaching, Constable Jin Hu pointed at Wan Quan and said, "This is the innkeeper. He's letting you stay for the night out of respect for me. Go quickly and tell them not to cause any trouble; there are other guests at the inn."

Oh? We can stay at an inn now, that's great!

"Thank you very much, Officer. Quickly, children." After thanking him, Hong Xiaoduo gestured for Tian Shu and the others to thank him as well.

The seven children said in unison, "Thank you, Officer! May you be kind-hearted, live a long and prosperous life, and have many children."

Upon hearing this, Hong Xiaoduo realized something was wrong and quickly told them to stop.

Then, happily, he followed Wan Quan away, not worried at all that A Kuan would cause any more trouble.

The constables have already started helping her with her accommodation. If Ah Kuan still can't see the situation and keeps bothering the constables, then he's just asking for trouble...
