The shopkeeper, who considered himself a man of many talents, was still puzzled. No matter how he looked at it, the man who had dismounted and the other young woman seemed more like the people in charge than the one in front of him.
Judging from their expressions, the shopkeeper was certain that the man was not a guard, and the young woman who got off the carriage was not a maid.
Having received the answer, Tian Shu spoke again: "Manager, did you hear that? We need to stay for at least seven days, what do you think?"
"Oh, I understand, I understand. We'll charge you 20% off the room rate, what do you think, young man?" The innkeeper snapped out of his daze and immediately replied.
20% off? That's amazing! Is there really such a good deal?
All along the way, the inn I looked for was Tian Shu, but now that I saw the innkeeper like this, I hesitated a bit.
He took two steps back, looked up at the inn's sign, and then looked at Hong Xiaoduo.
Faced with Tian Shu's questioning gaze, Hong Xiaoduo couldn't help but smile and give him a look that said it was nothing.
Tian Shu then said to the innkeeper, "Could you show me the room first?"
Looking at the child's reaction, the shopkeeper guessed what had happened. He thought to himself that the horse-drawn carriage and donkey cart had been brought into the stable and should have been unloaded by now.
"Of course, Xiao Douzi, come here and show the young master the room," the innkeeper called out.
As his voice faded, a child ran out, who looked to be about the same age as Tianquan Tianji.
With an honest and simple face, he walked up to Quan Jinghuai and said, "Young master, please follow me."
The shopkeeper saw this but didn't say anything, thinking that since they were all together, it wouldn't matter who he took to see it.
However, the man said, "Take that young master to see it." After saying that, he walked to a chair and sat down.
Xiao Douzi was taken aback, and the innkeeper was also puzzled. So there was someone specifically in charge of checking the rooms?
Little Bean looked at Tian Shu and quickly said, "Young Master, please follow me."
The shopkeeper busied himself calling another waiter to brew tea. Before the tea was ready, Tian Shu and Xiao Douzi came downstairs.
Seeing Xiaodouzi's expression, the shopkeeper breathed a sigh of relief; the business was secure.
"The room is alright," Tian Shu said to Hong Xiaoduo.
"Then let's put our things in the room first, and then go out to eat." After Hong Xiaoduo finished speaking, everyone around her, big and small, started moving, carrying their packages upstairs.
After entering the room, Hong Xiaoduo saw Tian Shu follow her in and said with a smile, "Are you worried that there's something wrong with this inn?"
Tian Shu nodded: "Fengzhou is such a big place, and this inn is on the main street. The location is so good, yet the price is not high. They even bargained with me so readily. I thought a 5% discount would be the most, but I didn't expect them to give me a 20% discount directly."
"Hmm, Tian Shu, you are analytical and cautious, which is good. But you should think like this: we should judge people first. This innkeeper doesn't seem like a treacherous or cunning person, and this inn is located in a prime spot on the main street."
Even if there's some other reason, as long as their place isn't a shady business, that's fine. As for anything else, we don't need to care. Who are we? Even if a murder happened here, we've even lived near desolate graveyards. What's there to be afraid of?" Hong Xiaoduo laughed.
Upon hearing this, Tian Shu thought it made sense and immediately nodded with a smile before returning to his room.
After the two children from the stable returned, the group of ten headed outside.
"By the way, innkeeper, we'll be eating at your inn for the next seven days. Could you have the staff prepare enough ingredients for a few more days, like live chickens and ducks?" Hong Xiaoduo reminded her before leaving.
The shopkeeper laughed upon hearing this: "Young lady, don't worry. The places that sell these ingredients are all nearby, so it's very convenient to buy them fresh every day."
“I’m not worrying unnecessarily. It’s been raining heavily with thunderstorms and strong winds for the past few days, and there’s even hail. Even if you don’t believe me, consider it a favor to ask you to buy enough groceries for us for seven days.” Hong Xiaoduo wasn’t annoyed that the other party didn’t believe her.
The weather outside was just cloudy and a bit stuffy.
After saying all this, seeing the shopkeeper's expression, he didn't take her words seriously.
Tian Shu frowned, and without waiting for the shopkeeper to speak, he took out ten taels of silver and placed them on the counter: "We just need to make sure that there is one meat dish for lunch and dinner each day. As for the other vegetarian dishes, please ask the kitchen to buy them for us."
"Alright, I'll have someone go and buy it right away." Although the shopkeeper didn't believe Hong Xiaoduo's words at all, he could read people's expressions; a customer was angry.
Then just take the money and do as instructed; as long as the customer is happy.
Why bother arguing about whether there will be continuous thunderstorms and strong winds?
hail?
He has been working in Fengzhou for over ten years and has never seen hail fall here before!
"Shopkeeper, here's the money. We'll make up the difference later." Before leaving, Tian Shu gave him a final word of advice.
As they walked out, Hong Xiaoduo smiled and said to Quan Jinghuai, "You see, apart from our own people, no one will believe me."
Quan Jinghuai nodded, so even though she knew about the weather changes along the way, she didn't remind others.
Because even if she reminded them, no one would take it seriously, and they would all think she was strange.
For lunch, we chose a small eatery next door, ordered large steamed buns, a few stir-fried dishes, and soup.
About half an hour later, Hong Xiaoduo took them shopping, mainly for cakes and pastries, which could be kept for a few days without spoiling.
"Yuheng, what's wrong?" As they walked, Hong Xiaoduo suddenly heard Feiyan ask anxiously.
Turning my head, I saw Yuheng looking at the alleyway across the street with a pale face.
People were walking around there. Hong Xiaoduo wasn't sure who Yuheng had seen, so she looked at Tian Shu and the others.
The people who could frighten Yuheng must be people they know, right?
After carefully examining the document, Tian Shu and the others shook their heads at Hong Xiaoduo.
Hong Xiaoduo thought for a moment, then leaned down slightly and asked Yuheng softly, "What did you see?"
Yuheng bit her lip, mustered her courage to look in that direction again, and finally shook her head, saying, "Maybe I'm seeing things."
Hmm? Hearing her say that, Hong Xiaoduo looked up and met Quan Jinghuai's gaze.
"Which one did you mistake? The villain?" Hong Xiaoduo asked in an even softer voice.
Yuheng nodded: "Yes."
Hong Xiaoduo didn't know what to say, so she comforted her, "Don't overthink it. Don't scare yourself."
"I'm a little tired. Let's buy some more good food and then go back to the inn to rest." After Hong Xiaoduo finished speaking, she gestured for Feiyan to come over and take Yaoguang's hand, while she put her arm around Yuheng's shoulder and continued walking forward.
Hong Xiaoduo could feel that Yuheng's body was stiff with fear.
That night, sure enough, there was thunder and lightning in the middle of the night. Hong Xiaoduo and the others were awakened by Yuheng's screams. The little girl was having a nightmare.
Hong Xiaoduo lit the candle barefoot and quickly woke Yuheng, who was still having a nightmare...
