Clearly, that pill was not the kind of medicine the woman usually took to treat her.
When the maids did these things, it was only to guard against their own mistress.
"Madam, please have a few sips of tea to moisten your throat before speaking to the young master," the maid said, trying her best to keep her voice from sounding out of place.
Just as she was nervously worried that her mistress might become suspicious, she saw her mistress smile and reach out to take the teacup: "Ren Niang, pour a cup of tea for the young master as well."
After saying that, she looked at Hong Xiaoduo as if she remembered something and asked cautiously, "Can he drink tea?"
Hong Xiaoduo guessed that the woman might have thought of the saying that children should not drink tea, and nodded with a smile, saying, "Of course."
When the maid poured Kaiyang a cup of tea and handed it to him, the woman smiled at Kaiyang, raised her teacup, and perhaps because she had been too nervous earlier, or perhaps because she had talked a lot, she was indeed a little thirsty. She drank the tea, which was at just the right temperature, in one gulp.
After receiving the empty teacup from her mistress, the maid breathed a sigh of relief, followed by self-reproach and heartache.
"How about I take you to have breakfast together after dawn?" the woman asked again.
Kaiyang Chaohong Xiaoduo glanced at it, and seeing her nod, she quickly agreed: "Okay."
"So what do you like to eat? Meat pies? Or steamed buns?" the woman asked eagerly.
“Anything is fine, I’m not picky about food,” Kaiyang replied.
As soon as he finished speaking, he saw the woman in front of him sway. Kaiyang was worried and was about to reach out to help her when the maidservant reached out and put her hand on the woman's shoulder.
"Woman, quickly get me some cold water, I can't sleep." The woman tried to keep her eyes open and said anxiously to the maid beside her.
"Madam, if you're sleepy, let's go back and rest. Get a good night's sleep, and then come back to talk to the young master when you're awake, okay?" The maid coaxed her with red eyes as she helped her mistress to her feet and led her outside.
The woman resisted somewhat, but her body was weak and her eyelids were heavy. She was drowsy but still tried to open her eyes, searching for Kaiyang.
"Thank you for your kindness today, young lady. I promise I will not bother you again." The guard stepped forward, clasped his hands in a fist and bowed deeply to Hong Xiaoduo, then turned and carried the woman away.
Watching the other person's figure, Hong Xiaoduo said nothing.
What are you saying?
Should we ask them what their plans are after they go home? Should we ask the woman what she will do after the effects of the medicine wear off?
It's not right to offer well-intentioned advice like "a mental illness can only be cured by a mental cure." Judging from this woman's household, she's no ordinary family. She must have seen many doctors, and surely one of them has said that too!
Also, the guard just said thank you for your help, what kind of help is that?
I just stayed up all night to cooperate because I felt sorry for this lady.
If they were to grant their wish, they would give Kaiyang to that woman to be her son. For Kaiyang, this would mean having a mother who would treat him like her own son, and a home. For that woman, having found her 'son' would cure her heart ailment.
This is quite a win-win situation.
Thinking of this, Hong Xiaoduo looked at Kaiyang, who was also watching the three women leave. The child's innocent face was full of worry.
Otherwise, should we have a good talk with this child later and let him make his own decision?
"Tong'er, my Tong'er..." The three people had already left the room when the woman on the guard's back spoke in a weak voice.
Hong Xiaoduo frowned. Tong'er? Where have I heard that name before...?
