Chapter 272 Tell You

"There's one last question. Does your aunt know about this?" Hong Xiaoduo asked curiously.

Looking at the girl in front of him, Wei Junpei could tell from her expression that the previous questions were serious business, and now she was just curious.

That's what makes her special. Apart from her, even if someone hears about that matter and is curious, no matter how close or familiar they are with him, they would never ask him about it.

After all, this is nothing to be proud of or boast about.

"Zizheng is one and a half years old. After weaning, I told her," Old Man Wei said.

Having told this girl the whole story without any embarrassment, what else is there that can't be said?

"So, what was your aunt's reaction? Was she angry? Was she annoyed with you? Has she been uncomfortable looking at you for some time now?" Hong Xiaoduo asked in quick succession.

Wei Junpei was somewhat helpless; what could he do when this little girl was so compatible with him?

"She was naturally angry and sad, but that was because she never expected her close cousin to do such a thing behind her back. She was wondering why her aunt, who had come once when she gave birth and was celebrating her third birthday, had gone back after the banquet, and why her cousin Yumin had suddenly gone back to her hometown without saying goodbye."

Although she didn't blame me, she felt uneasy for a while. Wei Junpei finished speaking and sighed.

That incident was a disgrace to him, and it bothered him for a long time.

"Hey, Xiaoduo, that's enough. It's your turn to speak. What exactly happened?" Seeing that Hong Xiaoduo was about to speak again, Wei Junpei quickly interrupted.

Upon hearing this, Hong Xiaoduo looked towards the door and hesitated, "Uncle Wei, how about we find a slightly safer place to talk?"

If the fake Tong'er is actually related to Old Man Wei's family by blood, then Hong Xiaoduo needs to be even more cautious.

Actually, all that gossip and joking around just now was because she hadn't figured out how to tell Uncle Wei.

The way things turned out was completely unexpected for her; it was so unexpected.

Hearing her words and seeing her expression, Wei Junpei frowned slightly and asked, "Is it really necessary?"

He was completely baffled. Could it be that the girl had overheard something unfavorable to him outside? Was someone trying to use that incident from years ago to get back at him?

But surely that doesn't mean he has to be so cautious, even in his own residence!

"Of course, if you think it's not that serious, I can say so here." Judging from the other person's expression, it was clear that they didn't expect it to be such a serious matter.

I couldn't even guess the general direction.

"Girl, come with me to the study," Wei Junpei said, standing up.

To question the girl in front of you is tantamount to questioning your own judgment of people.

"Uncle Wei, Guard Yin, and Guard Fang, don't they live in the mansion?" Hong Xiaoduo asked as she walked towards the study.

"You said you saw a few last time? We'll see one soon. The others are in the other courtyard. They don't know you're here yet, otherwise they would definitely have followed us." As he spoke, he reached the door of the study.

"Eh, Miss Hong? It's you?" The person squatting in a horse stance at the door of the study turned around upon hearing footsteps and saw Hong Xiaoduo, asking in surprise.

"Guard Yin, it's me! Hello!" Hong Xiaoduo greeted the familiar face with a cheerful and playful smile.

Wei Junpei didn't give them a chance to exchange pleasantries: "Keep an eye on them, don't let anyone get close."

"Yes, Your Majesty, I obey." Guard Yin immediately became serious.

"Oh, by the way, please have someone find Kaiyang here and have him wait for me in the courtyard. Oh, he went to see the koi and pick grapes with the steward." Hong Xiaoduo had already stepped over the threshold and turned to ask Guard Yin for help.

Before his master could speak, Guard Yin nodded and blew a whistle.

Hong Xiaoduo then entered the study and closed the door behind her.

"Is this alright? If not, I'll lead you into the secret chamber," Wei Junpei asked.

“With Guard Yin guarding the door, everything should be fine. Uncle Wei, you didn’t even hide the secret room from me. Are you really not afraid that I might harm you?” Hong Xiaoduo laughed.

It feels especially comfortable and wonderful to be trusted like this.

Wei Junpei sat down and gestured for Hong Xiaoduo to sit as well: "Can we talk now?"

After sitting down, Hong Xiaoduo remained silent for a moment before speaking: "Uncle Wei, you'd better be mentally prepared before I speak. No matter what I say, whether you believe it or not, please don't get agitated."

Wei Junpei nodded, thinking to himself, "At my age, even if the sky were to fall, I wouldn't be afraid."

"What I want to talk about is your grandson Tong'er. The one you've recognized now isn't the real Tong'er." Hong Xiaoduo saw the old man getting anxious and thought, "Fine."

"No, girl, you can't say things like that. You should know how important Tong'er is to the Wei family after you met Zizheng's wife, right?" Old Man Wei got angry as soon as he heard the beginning and couldn't listen anymore.

"Can you please stop getting so impatient? Can't you just let me finish what I have to say?" Hong Xiaoduo said patiently.

Old Man Wei suppressed his temper and retorted, "No, Little Duo, listen to what you're saying. Does it make sense? Don't you already know the whole story of finding Tong'er?"

The news came from the Dali Temple's trial.

The presiding judge was Ding Zhiyuan, the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review, who was an upright official. I had no grudges against him in the past and no enmity with him today. Previously, the Emperor had ordered the two of us to try Nie Qing's case.

"I'm not one to believe everything people say. I brought men and carefully investigated and double-checked the clues they provided. There was nothing amiss. Are you questioning my abilities, girl?"

This tone was no longer the kind and approachable one before; instead, it carried the authority of an elder.
