Chapter 280 Kaiyang's Uncomfort

Hua listened to her father-in-law's words. After leaving her parents-in-law's courtyard with her husband, she kept glancing towards the guest room.

"Otherwise, shall I accompany you to see him?" Wei Zizheng felt sorry for his wife, but at the same time, he also longed to see his son.

Although they had met and even dined together, they didn't know at the time that he was their biological son.

Now that I know, my mindset is naturally different.

Then, recalling what he had learned from his father—that before the children met Hong Xiaoniangzi, they had been wandering around begging with a man, and that the man was said to treat the children very badly—Wei Zizheng felt both hatred and heartache.

The couple walked hand in hand toward the guest room. Wei Zizheng could feel his wife getting excited again, and his hand was a little sore from her grip.

They soon arrived at the guest room courtyard, only to find that the room where Hong Xiaoduo and Kaiyang were staying was dark and quiet, indicating that they were already asleep.

"Otherwise, let's think of an excuse to knock on the door?" Wei Zizheng said in a low voice, sensing his wife's disappointment.

Hua shook his head and said, "They must be tired from traveling, so let's not bother them. Zheng-ge, would you like to stand here with me for a while?"

Wei Zizheng would never say no. He stood with his wife in the yard for about 15 minutes before she finally suggested they go back, and he left.

Despite the major events that had occurred during her half-day back in the capital, Madam Hua did not suffer from insomnia. After washing up, she lay down and quickly fell asleep. Wei Zizheng, who was lying beside her, had not heard his wife's laughter for the first time in the years since Tong'er's accident, and it was in his dream.

He also made a decision: even if there was a real reversal later and Kaiyang was not his biological son, he would do everything he could to keep the child.

If all else fails, and his wife wants to leave the capital with the child, he won't stop her. He doesn't want to keep his wife by his side; he just wants her to be happy and well.

Kaiyang slept very soundly that night.

Hong Xiaoduo, who shared a room with him, didn't fall asleep until late at night.

The next morning, Hong Xiaoduo, who always slept in late, woke up early. Seeing that it was still early, she didn't get up, but saw Kaiyang carefully getting up and tiptoeing to open the door.

Knowing that the child had gone to practice martial arts, I didn't call out to him.

Today I really have to tell this child. Hong Xiaoduo despises herself. So many days have passed since we came here, and she still doesn't have the confidence to tell Kaiyang the truth.

When Ziyue, who was waiting outside the door, heard the noise, she quickly greeted her and came in.

She refused when asked to help Hong Xiaoduo with her washing and grooming.

Ziyue went to the bedside to tidy up the bedding, only to find that both beds had already been made up, with the bedding neatly folded.

“Young Lady Hong, the master arranged for us to come here to serve you two,” Zi Yue said softly.

Hong Xiaoduo smiled and said, "I'm not used to it."

“Young lady, you’ll get used to it after a while,” Ziyue quickly said.

"I won't be staying here permanently, so I don't need to adapt. Don't worry, your Master Wei knows my personality and won't blame you for not being thorough." As she spoke, Hong Xiaoduo finished washing up.

When she went outside, she saw Kaiyang squatting in a horse stance in the open space outside the door, his little face flushed and his forehead covered in sweat.

"You've had enough rest. Go take a shower and change into something dry. Don't keep your grandfather and the others waiting for us to have breakfast." Seeing that Kaiyang showed no sign of stopping, Hong Xiaoduo spoke up.

Upon hearing her words, Kaiyang immediately stood up straight and quickly went inside to wash up.

At this moment, Kaiyang began to mutter to himself that if he weren't a guest at someone's house, he wouldn't be so particular about washing up and changing clothes after practicing martial arts in the morning, even if he was sweaty. He would only take a bath after evening practice.

This morning, Ah Wen was clever. Kai Yang wouldn't let him serve him, but after Kai Yang finished washing up and changed into dry clothes, he turned around to put away his clothes so he could wash them again when he came back for breakfast. Only then did he realize that his clothes and socks were gone.

"Don't bother looking, Awen took it. He probably sent it to the laundry." Hong Xiaoduo didn't see anyone come out, so when she went inside to look for him, she found Kaiyang looking for something. She guessed what was going on and told him.

"I can wash myself," Kaiyang muttered.

Hong Xiaoduo reached out and tidied his hair, saying, "Alright, I know you're diligent, but since we're guests in the mansion, let's do as the Romans do."

As they were talking, a maidservant from Qi's side came by and said that breakfast was ready.

The breakfast at the Wei residence was quite lavish, but Kaiyang didn't feel very comfortable eating it. He sensed that his grandfather's family was acting strangely today, especially the way they looked at him, which was similar to how Hua Shi had looked at him at first.

Although the seven of them followed Hong Xiaoduo around, they attracted a lot of attention from others, whether they were in restaurants or shopping. They had long been used to it.

However, the way the four members of the family looked at the elderly man was completely different from that of the passersby.

Furthermore, they kept putting food on his plate, so the plate in front of him was never empty.

Why are they treating me, a mere guest, with such hospitality? That was the first meal I had after arriving at their residence yesterday afternoon, and even dinner wasn't like this. What's wrong with them today?

Hong Xiaoduo noticed Kaiyang's unease. Observing the reactions of Qi Shi and her son and daughter-in-law to Kaiyang, Hong Xiaoduo knew that their behavior must be because Lord Wei had already told them the truth.

Similarly, the Wei family members' attitude towards her was different from before. Now, they looked at Hong Xiaoduo with a prickly gratitude.

However, Hong Xiaoduo did not feel uncomfortable.
