Chapter 289 Returning Home

Seeing the two people, one big and one small, walking ahead without showing any signs of fatigue, Yan Qian turned around and looked at the carriage following not far behind. After hesitating for a while, he finally spoke up: "Miss Hong, the carriage from the manor is just coming. Would you like it?"

"Shall we sit?" Hong Xiaoduo asked Kaiyang first, as always.

Kaiyang didn't want to do it himself and just wanted to spend more time alone with her. But then he thought about how she had been shopping all day for his sake, and how she had gotten up very early in the morning and must be tired.

So Kaiyang nodded, and the two of them stood there, watching Yan Qian wave to the carriage behind them. When the carriage arrived, the driver was about to go to the back to get a step stool when he saw the two distinguished guests, one big and one small, lightly put their hands on the carriage shaft and get into the carriage.

The coachman paused for a moment, then returned to the front of the carriage, said "Please sit down," and then drove the carriage back.

He'd been following behind all day, and the distinguished guest finally got on the bus. He's really got amazing stamina from all that traveling; how can he walk so much?

The key point is that after a whole day of shopping, all he did was buy food. He didn't look like he was doing any heavy lifting, but he had a pretty good appetite.

If you wander too far, and there are too many pedestrians on the street, the carriage won't be able to go fast.

"Are only Master and my elder brother aware of this?" Kaiyang asked in a low voice inside the carriage.

After getting into the carriage, they no longer needed to hold hands, but Kaiyang still sat close to Hong Xiaoduo.

When Hong Xiaoduo heard him ask, she turned her head and could only see Kaiyang's profile: "Yes. I told you about your master. As for Tian Shu, he guessed it himself. You know he's always been quite clever and perceptive."

Because I didn't know the exact situation in the capital, I didn't tell everyone.

"So, it's because I'm stupid. I thought she only brought me along because I could calm her down." As soon as he said this, Kaiyang's voice sounded a little aggrieved and choked up.

The child's temper flared up again, Hong Xiaoduo sighed inwardly, not thinking that he was going to keep going on and on.

A child who is only seven years old (by Chinese reckoning) has experienced something like this. How can you expect his emotions to remain stable?

Hong Xiaoduo is truly gratified to see Kaiyang in this state.

He reached out and put his arm around the little guy's shoulder: "How are we Kaiyang stupid? Didn't we all guess that only your master and eldest brother knew?"

"I was wondering why Master wanted to give me the sword manual, and why my older brother gave me his favorite bamboo dagger," Kaiyang muttered aggrievedly.

"Don't be sad, you'll definitely see each other again. Even if it's inconvenient for you to leave Beijing, it's easy for them to come looking for you," Hong Xiaoduo comforted her.

Kaiyang nodded and hummed in agreement. Because he was feeling sad, he didn't notice that Hong Xiaoduo had just said "you" and "they" to him, instead of "we" and "us".

"By the way, you asked me before what would happen if I had a family. Didn't I say that I should consider my family's situation and if it wasn't good, I should bring my family with me to continue following you?"

"If your family is well-off, you can stay here and continue being together. You won't have to separate anymore," Kaiyang said, turning to look at her.

Hong Xiaoduo understood what he meant; his family was very well-off.

My grandfather and father were both high-ranking officials, and my mother was very wealthy.

Hong Xiaoduo smiled and said, "Your family is well-off, and supporting our whole family isn't a problem. But the problem is, your master and I are both people who like to be free and independent."

He's a member of the martial arts world, and as for me, although I don't know my original identity either, as you know, my style of doing things along the way—killing mountain bandits and sea pirates—has offended quite a few underworld figures.

If we were to all pledge allegiance to your grandfather's household, we might bring them undeserved disaster.

Kaiyang remained silent after hearing this, but Hong Xiaoduo knew that he had taken her words to heart.

The carriage slowly came to a stop, and the two knew they had arrived at the gate of the Wei residence.

“Actually, even if people who are close break up, it doesn’t mean we’ve become strangers. Would you forget us? If you knew something was wrong with us, wouldn’t you worry and help us?” Hong Xiaoduo said when she saw that Kaiyang didn’t get up from the car.

“Of course I won’t forget, I’m just afraid you’ll forget me,” Kaiyang replied immediately.

"You're overthinking it. How could we possibly forget you? When we come looking for you, just don't hide from us. Save your allowance carefully, or you'll be short of money when you have to treat us to nice meals or fun activities," Hong Xiaoduo teased him.

"No way," Kaiyang replied with certainty.

In that case, I need to save money properly, otherwise when my master, older brother, older sister, and younger sister come to the capital, I'll have to take them to Jinghua Restaurant at least once!

Seeing Kaiyang's reaction, Hong Xiaoduo suppressed a laugh and said, "Also, you should practice martial arts and study hard, and be more reliable in your work. Otherwise, when you want to go out of the capital to see everyone, your family won't feel comfortable letting you go."

I said these things half-jokingly and half-seriously because I wanted the child to know that being separated doesn't mean we'll never see each other again.

Sure enough, these words had an effect on Kaiyang, who got up and got out of the car.

Kaiyang jumped off the carriage first, and Yan Qian reached out to catch him.

After Kaiyang steadied himself, he reached out to Hong Xiaoduo, who was exiting the carriage: "Mom, slow down."

"This child," Hong Xiaoduo sighed inwardly, but still cooperated by placing her hand on Kaiyang's little hand and jumping out of the car. She couldn't let the child down!

"Miss Hong, the young master is back. How was it? Was the capital city fun?" Steward Zhongqing, who had been waiting outside the mansion gate, asked with a smile as he ushered Hong Xiaoduo and her companion inside.

He thought to himself, "The two of you are finally back. I don't know how many times the Madam and Young Madam have asked him about it all day."
