Chapter 3 Practice and Confirmation

A bird she didn't know was perched on a branch not far ahead. "You're the one," Hong Xiaoduo thought, and threw the stone in her hand at the bird.

"I hope it won't just scare that bird away," Hong Xiaoduo was thinking when she heard the bird chirp and fall off the branch.

What?! It really hit?

Hong Xiaoduo scratched her head in disbelief and walked over there.

Looking at the bird she had shot dead under the tree, she was still somewhat unsure whether she had really shot it down.

The first time might have been a coincidence, but hitting the target the second time was probably not a coincidence.

Does that mean we could try hunting wild rabbits or something, then we and the kids would have something to eat, and it would even be meat, authentic wild game!

Suppressing her excitement, Hong Xiaoduo straightened her back and walked deeper into the forest. After a few steps, she stopped and looked back at the dead bird. "What if we can't hunt any other game later? This bird may be a bit small, but it's better than nothing." She muttered to herself as she turned around, picked up the bird, and saw some thin vines at her feet. She broke off a piece, tied it to the bird's leg, and continued walking.

It's been almost a day and a night since yesterday, so her beautiful fantasy of returning to the modern world after the 90-minute experience has been shattered. She has no idea what the current plot is about, so she has no clue how or when it will end.

At least with this current identity, having some martial arts skills is good. At least like now, I can hunt wild game to survive and not go hungry.

Stay calm. The more anxious you are to find the answer and understand the truth, the more anxious you will become. In that case, you will only make yourself feel worse and it will not do you any good.

So, let's focus on filling our stomachs first before thinking about anything else. People can always come up with a solution, and there's nothing that can't be solved.

Thinking this way, and having just verified the skill of hitting exactly where you point it, Hong Xiaoduo's mood improved slightly. This skill could be used with darts, throwing knives, or anything like that. It was like having hidden weapons in martial arts novels.

Not far from where she had gone, Hong Xiaoduo saw a pheasant emerge from the bushes. Without a word, she excitedly threw the small stones she had just picked up at it.

This pheasant is dozens of times larger than the bird we just saw, so it should be easier to hit, right?

The thought had barely crossed his mind when he saw the pheasant being struck by a stone and fall to the ground.

"I won! I really won!" Hong Xiaoduo was overjoyed. She ran over to the pheasant that was still flapping its wings on the ground. Unable to contain her excitement, she picked it up and tied it together with the bird she had caught earlier. The vines she picked up suddenly became heavy.

If we get one or two more that big, it should be enough for the three of them—one adult and seven children—to have a good meal.

After hunting another rabbit and a pheasant, Hong Xiaoduo had forgotten her previous plan of just enough for a meal, and her enthusiasm for hunting was irrepressible.

In the end, they had caught too much prey, and it was difficult to carry it all in both hands. So, they reluctantly looked deeper into the forest and started to walk back.

Just as we were about to leave the woods, I faintly heard crying. To be precise, it was the crying of children, and not just one or two, but a whole group of them.

Upon hearing the crying, Hong Xiaoduo's scalp immediately tingled. Although she no longer had the memories of the past, she was certain that she didn't like hearing children cry.

What's going on? Could it be that man has caught up with us?

Hong Xiaoduo was very worried and quickened her pace to run outside. In her haste, she didn't even notice that she was carrying two hands full of the game she had hunted, weighing over a hundred pounds in total, but she didn't feel any strain at all.

Furthermore, her feet were almost off the ground, making it appear as if she was flying forward on the tips of grass.

She began to regret leaving them on the main road, knowing full well that the man who had abused them was likely to come after them. She should have hidden them before entering the woods.

Once out of the woods, I immediately saw the children not far away. Some were standing, some were sitting, some were crying with their heads up, some were crying with their heads down, and some were crying while hugging each other.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven? Hong Xiaoduo counted the number of people from afar. There were no more or fewer than the number of people, and she didn't see the figure of that bad man. She breathed a slight sigh of relief and slowed down her pace. Ouch, why is it hurting my foot when I slow down?

"Look, it's Mother! Mother didn't abandon us!" The eldest boy had been facing Lin Zi the whole time, so he was the first to see her and excitedly told his companions loudly.

The crying stopped abruptly, and everyone turned to look in that direction.

Then, some children ran towards Hong Xiaoduo first, and the other children followed closely behind.

"Don't run, don't fall, be careful... Oh my god." Hong Xiaoduo shouted as she watched some children still fall down. She frowned and quickened her pace to go and meet them.

"Mother, you caught so many?"

"Mother, did you do all of this?"

"Mom, you're amazing!"

"These could sell for a lot of silver, right?"

Amidst a chorus of chirping, Hong Xiaoduo, like a mother hen, led her brood of chicks back to the roadside.

The children excitedly watched the prey; if it weren't for the tears and snot on their faces, it would have been as if the heart-wrenching cries from just now hadn't come from them.

The oldest child's attention was always on Hong Xiaoduo's face. Seeing her looking at her friends' faces with a furrowed brow, he quickly pulled out a cloth and went forward to wipe them.

"Mom, we all thought you didn't want us anymore, that's why we cried," the boy explained carefully as he wiped his friends' faces.
