As soon as she finished speaking, a rustling sound came from under the stool, then half of her body slowly moved out, and then Kaiyang's little face appeared.
Seeing that he was struggling to move, Hong Xiaoduo bent down and gently pulled him out, helping him to stand up.
"Mother." Kaiyang, with her hair in a mess and her robes wrinkled, called out cautiously.
Hong Xiaoduo, who had intended to give him a good scolding, couldn't bear to scold him anymore when she saw his obviously swollen eyes and his timid expression after making a mistake.
"Are you planning to sneak away with me? Don't you really care about your family's worry, anxiety, and sadness?" Hong Xiaoduo asked.
Kaiyang shook his head gently, his eyes brimming with tears again: "No, I just wanted to stay with you for a few days before going back."
Hong Xiaoduo couldn't hold back any longer. She reached out and hugged the child, gently patting his back and saying softly, "Silly boy, if you want to hide under the stool for days, you'll either die of thirst or starvation."
“I hid after I had eaten my fill, and I also brought a gourd of sweet soup and a few rice cakes. Didn’t you say before that if a person has nothing to eat, drinking sweet soup can sustain their life for seven to ten days?” Kaiyang said in a low voice, his voice choked with emotion.
Hong Xiaoduo was both amused and exasperated upon hearing this. Well, it was her fault.
But I was still quite gratified that he remembered what I had told the children.
She released the person from her embrace and asked with a smile, "So what are you going to do if you need to pee? Are you planning to pee on the car?"
"How could that be? I also prepared a gourd." Kaiyang immediately looked up and told him.
How could he possibly pee on the car? He may be young, but he wouldn't just relieve himself anywhere, it's too dirty!
Hearing him mention gourds again, Hong Xiaoduo became very curious. She pulled Kaiyang to sit beside her, bent down and lifted the curtain herself, and saw a row of gourds and several oil paper packages stuffed under the stool. No wonder the corner of his robe had been peeking out earlier; there were so many things inside.
"You're saying you drink sugar water in a gourd, and you plan to pee in a gourd too? Aren't you afraid of getting them mixed up?" Looking at the anxious Xiao Kaiyang, Hong Xiaoduo was extremely confused. She really wanted to say that since he couldn't bear to part with her, he could just come with her.
But that definitely won't work.
"Kaiyang, I know you don't want to be separated from us, but what I want to say is, like I said before, separation doesn't mean we'll be strangers from now on."
No matter how much time passes, no matter how old you get, as long as Kaiyang has me, your master, Brother Tianshu, Sister, Little Sister, and Sister Feiyan in your heart, we will still be the closest of friends.
And we, no matter where we are, will never forget you.
What you need to do is maintain your kindness, but don't be a saint. Study hard to become a better person, not simply to pass the imperial examinations and become a top scholar.
"Do what you think is meaningful, don't waste this life, remember?" After Hong Xiaoduo finished speaking, she felt that she was at a loss for words, and that her words of encouragement were so unskilled.
Kaiyang forced back the tears in his eyes and nodded earnestly.
"Young Lady Hong, do we need to go around again?" the driver asked softly as they returned to the fork in the road outside the city gate.
He heard the conversation inside the carriage very clearly. So the young master was hiding inside the carriage. No wonder the young lady wanted to drive around the capital.
Hong Xiaoduo did not respond immediately, but looked at Kaiyang instead.
"Mom, I know what to do. I'll get off the bus and go back by myself." Although Kaiyang was still reluctant, he felt much more at ease.
He needed to grow up quickly and become stronger so that she wouldn't be disappointed in him when they met again.
Only when you are good enough and capable enough will you be able to take care of them in the future and stand up to help them when they need it.
Seeing Kaiyang's expression, Hong Xiaoduo breathed a sigh of relief; the child had come to her senses.
That's for the best. Otherwise, who knows when this kid might sneak out of the capital to find her, which would be troublesome.
"Uncle Tong, tell the man in the back to wait here, and then take him back to the Wei residence," Hong Xiaoduo said to the person outside the carriage.
"Alright!" Coachman Wei Jiatong immediately responded, jumped off the carriage shaft, told the coachman from the Marquis of Fu'an's residence behind him, and then spurred the carriage to turn around and head towards the city gate.
The guards at the city gate saw the carriage from the Wei family that had left that morning return, but they didn't think much of it.
In the carriage, Kaiyang held Hong Xiaoduo's arm tightly and leaned against her: "When you have nowhere else to go, remember to come to the capital."
"Okay, I got it. You need to save your allowance so you can treat us to roast duck at Jinghua Restaurant. Also, keep practicing martial arts, or you'll embarrass yourself by not being able to beat Yaoguang." Hong Xiaoduo teased him with a smile.
Kaiyang nodded as he imagined himself being thoroughly beaten by Yaoguang, and decided that when he returned to the manor, he would tell his father to find him a martial arts instructor.
Yes, that's the coach. He already has a master, named Quan Jinghuai, and he can only be the master of this life.
The Wei family was in a panic because they hadn't found Kaiyang yet. Despite her husband's advice, Madam Hua insisted on following the route Hong Xiaoduo took when she left the capital.
When Wei Junpei and his wife found out, they also chased after them to the gate of the mansion. Just then, they saw the carriage that had brought Hong Xiaoduo back.
The family of four felt that Hong Xiaoduo must be worried and came back to confirm whether she had found Kaiyang.
The carriage stopped, the door opened, and Kaiyang stepped out.
"Kaiyang, my son!" Hua rushed over immediately.
She reached out and hugged her son, tears streaming down her face: "Kaiyang, if you don't want to stay here, tell your mother, and I'll pack my things and come with you."
Upon hearing this, Wei Zizheng paused for a moment, then breathed a sigh of relief.
