Chapter 40 What exactly is her background?

"That young lady said she wanted to? Jiao Tu, have you forgotten whose subordinate you are?" Mu Zitao suppressed his anger and asked coldly.

Upon hearing this, Jiao Tu shrank back and turned to look at his other companions, pleading with his eyes, "Brothers, you guys had a share too, didn't you?"

“Master, actually, we can’t entirely blame him. He didn’t lend a hand just now, leaving a delicate young lady to face those three robbers alone. He must feel bad about it,” Sanjin said, showing his loyalty.

Mu Zitao got even angrier upon hearing this, pointing in the direction the donkey cart had gone: "Her, delicate? Sanjin, are you blind?" After a pause, he pointed at the three unlucky robbers on the ground: "I think they're the ones who are delicate, aren't they?"

Seeing that Sanjin's words only made his master angrier, some people felt that if they didn't speak up to persuade him, how would things end? "Master, please don't be angry. It's just that we've been following you for so long. We can kill enemies on the battlefield, and it's become a habit for us to help those in need when we're out and about."

"You've been with me for too long, and it's become a habit? So you're blaming me for this? Baqian, what you're doing now, is it like helping someone in need? You're just being fooled by a few words and cleaning up their mess." Mu Zitao got angrier and angrier as he listened. How come his subordinates, who usually seemed so reliable and clever, have all become so stupid?

None of the three companions were properly dealt with, and the remaining two looked at each other, communicating with their eyes, as if they needed to say something more.

“Master, since things have come to this, there’s no use getting angry. You might even ruin your health. Let my men take these three to the yamen. You can continue on your way.” Song You figured that taking on this heavy lifting himself was the right thing to do.

He wanted to say, "Master, please continue with what you were doing?" but he didn't dare to continue. His master was already so angry with that young lady, how could he be expected to continue?

"What are you sending? The nearest government office is Dong Fanren's. If you send it there, he'll find out that these three bastards robbed his little sister, Xiaoduo. What do you think he'll do then?" Mu Zitao was about to lose his temper.

Hmm? Was that young lady Dong's little sister, Xiaoduo? Is she someone related to Dong?

Also, why does the master's words sound a bit sour?

Song You's brain was racing, trying to figure out what had happened between his master, Young Master Dong, and that little girl, Xiao Duo.

Seeing that Song You still hadn't come up with an answer, Mu Zitao glared at him: "Based on my understanding of Dong Fanren, if he knew what those three bastards were doing today, he would either be instigating the magistrate to execute them or he would be killing them himself."

"Oh, what should we do? How should we deal with them?" Song You blurted out.

"What are we going to do? Who are these three bastards? What kind of business do they run? Do I have to teach you how to deal with them?" Mu Zitao almost kicked them.

Song You and the others understood what he meant. They dragged the three robbers into the woods and swiftly sent them to meet their maker.

Another hole was dug, and while it was being dragged, Sanjin let out a "hey".

The others saw him squatting beside the wounded corpse, examining the wounds, and when they couldn't see clearly, he used a dagger to cut open the corpse's trouser leg.

After figuring out why Sanjin was like that, the others were also drawn to the wound.

"What are you all dawdling about? What, are you setting up an altar for them, or choosing an auspicious time for their burial?" Impatiently waiting by the roadside, Mu Zitao scolded them as he walked towards them.

"Master, come and see!" Baqian greeted excitedly.

Mu Zitao frowned. What was so strange about a dead body? But he still walked over, and when he saw it, he gasped in shock.

The body was injured at the knee, where there is now a hole, a hole running from the back of the leg through the kneecap.

Looking at the leg wound of the other corpse, there is a similar through-hole, the only slight difference being the size of the hole.

They remembered what the young woman had thrown out that was a hidden weapon with a cold glint in its eye.

That accuracy, that power—it's impossible to achieve without profound internal strength and years of rigorous training. That young lady looks to be around the age of fifteen.

Severing an opponent's arm with a casual sword strike is something that can be achieved with a sharp blade and skillful technique.

However, even though she was carrying a sword, I couldn't see any trace of martial arts aura about her.

Furthermore, judging from her fighting style with the bandit leader, she doesn't seem to be a martial artist at all! Just who is she?

Mu Zitao glanced at the holes in the knees of the two corpses, made a gesture, and his men threw the bodies into the pit and simply covered them with soil.

Back at their mounts, the men silently followed their master as he mounted, wondering whether he intended to continue on his journey.

Similarly, Mu Zitao was also hesitant, wondering whether he should continue to travel with her.

With her abilities, she certainly didn't need to ask him for help.

And what's wrong with me? Why am I doing something so childish, ridiculous, and boring?

Is it just to kill time when you're bored? Dong Fanren spent three years in that small town of millstones, wasn't he even more bored? He and Hong Xiaoduo got along so well, yet he never casually went with her.

I, a person who has always been calm and composed, have acted so absurdly!

Sanjin and the other five stood by, not daring to breathe, watching their master turn his horse around two or three times before finally urging it to go in the direction the donkey cart had left.

The five men on horseback breathed a sigh of relief and urged their horses to follow.

On the donkey cart, which had already traveled some distance, Hong Xiaoduo stared blankly at the sword lying across her legs. She had just used it to sever the arm of the robber. Now, the image of the robber clutching his severed arm and the blood spurting to the ground was still replaying in her mind.
