Yao Guang felt she shouldn't have said it, because her older brother had told her that she absolutely couldn't let her mother know.
But if I don't tell her, I feel like I'm letting my mother down. She loves me so much, and she even carries me around in her arms.
She then thought of the last time her mother asked why she called her mother, and she herself had told her mother. Her mother wasn't angry at the time, and afterwards she didn't do anything to her older brother, neither scolding nor hitting him.
I figured that telling my mother this time wouldn't be a big deal!
She curled up slightly, brought her little mouth close to Hong Xiaoduo's ear, and whispered, "Big brother said that Master Dong might want to be our father. If we call him uncle, then he can only be our uncle."
Yao Guang's little mouth was too close, and her breath tickled Hong Xiaoduo's ears. The child was afraid that her older brothers and sisters would hear and reveal the secret, so she spoke very softly. Therefore, Hong Xiaoduo had to endure it and not look away in order to hear clearly.
Now that she has the answer, Hong Xiaoduo thinks it's fortunate that she asked the question now. If she had asked it while eating, she would have either choked half to death or nearly died from choking.
What is all this about? Dad's even showing up?
They called each other "uncle" to prevent Brother Dong from wanting to become their father.
However, it seems logically plausible, since siblings cannot be husband and wife!
She was still thinking that maybe she was overthinking it. Perhaps the children called Brother Dong "Uncle" simply because they heard her call him "Brother," so they would have to call him "Uncle."
Oh, this Tian Shu!
The reason she lets them continue calling her "Mom" is simply because she treats it as a label. Even this readily available "Mom" needs maternal love; she's still a big baby herself who needs to be loved!
Tian Shu, who was walking ahead holding Kai Yang's hand, felt a chill on the back of his head. Thinking his hat was crooked, he straightened it and turned to look at Hong Xiaoduo. Hey? His mother gave him a bright smile. That's nice. Tian Shu pursed his lips, turned his head, and continued walking forward, feeling very happy.
After walking for a while, I noticed that the children ahead of me had slowed down. Following their gaze, I saw a meat pie shop.
The meat pie maker places the prepared patties into a flat iron pan and fries them in oil, the sizzling sound accompanied by the aroma of the meat patties.
When the waiter saw people stopping to watch, he quickly stepped forward to greet them warmly and introduce the place.
Hearing this, Hong Xiaoduo, along with the meat porridge and wontons, led the seven children into the shop.
The waiter led them directly to a large square table, and Hong Xiaoduo let the children tell her what they wanted to eat.
After spending these past few days together, the children have become a bit bolder, but Hong Xiaoduo noticed that even though they dare to order food on their own, they are still a little cautious, glancing at her first and then looking at Tian Shu.
At this time, there weren't many customers in the shop. Seeing a young woman with seven pretty children, people couldn't help but glance at her a few times. They were curious when they noticed that the seven children seemed to be bald, but no one would dare to go up and ask them anything.
The food was served quickly. Without Hong Xiaoduo having to say anything, Tian Shu was already reminding his younger siblings to eat slowly and not burn themselves.
A sharp-eyed diner nearby quickly noticed that the young woman had seven children with her. They all looked quite handsome, but seemed to have little skill in using chopsticks, appearing rather clumsy.
Especially when Kaiyang noticed a customer staring at her, her face flushed red at the look and expression in that person's eyes. Nervous, she tried several times to pick up the meat pie with her chopsticks, but failed miserably and almost dropped it on the table.
"It's okay, don't worry about it, take your time, like this." Hong Xiaoduo noticed the child's embarrassment and gently reassured him, showing him how to pick up the meat pie without it falling.
He picked up the plate of meat patties with one hand and brought the meat patties to his mouth with the other.
Hong Xiaoduo's gentle voice and encouraging smile not only comforted Kaiyang, but also inspired the other children who had thought many times about putting down their chopsticks and grabbing the meat patties with their hands to bite into them.
Sure enough, eating it this way makes it easy to bite into the fragrant meat patty.
Seeing that they were eating the meat pies in peace, Hong Xiaoduo then looked at Yaoguang sitting next to her. Although she was the youngest, she was very clever. She moved the plate of meat pies to the edge of the table, bent down to bite the meat pies in the plate, and used chopsticks to help push them towards her mouth when they were hard to bite.
These beef patties have a thin crust and a generous filling; every bite is bursting with flavor. They're so delicious!
When other diners pointed and whispered about her, Hong Xiaoduo didn't feel embarrassed or ashamed at all.
When she took them to sit at a food stall for the first time to eat meat buns, she noticed that the children did not know how to use chopsticks. Some children wanted to eat with their hands, but Tian Shu reminded them in a low voice that they could not.
But at the table outside the steamed bun stall that day, the diners were just the three of them—one adult, seven children, Brother Dong, and his good brother.
Hong Xiaoduo didn't ask the children, but just thinking about their previous situation, she knew why they didn't know how to use chopsticks. It was because they never needed chopsticks to eat before.
They would grab dry biscuits and eat them with their hands, or gulp down soupy food by tilting their heads back. For noodles and other rations, they would use thin wooden sticks as chopsticks to shovel them into their mouths.
They have never eaten a decent meal, never sat down at a table to eat, and don't know how to use chopsticks. Is that their fault?
It's okay if they don't know how to use it; she'll teach them.
It will definitely seem a bit clumsy at first, but it will get better gradually. It's only been a few days, and it's already much better.
Hong Xiaoduo wasn't sure how long she could protect them, but she hoped that while she was by their side, she could make things as better as possible for them.
