Chapter 44 Who is this person who ruined my good deed?

This was only the second time in Mu Zitao's life that he had felt this nervous. The first time was when he went to the battlefield to fight for the first time with his elders.

He planned to take a few men north after tonight's events to see the first snow and admire the plum blossoms. He envisioned a small table with a few dishes, a pot of mellow wine, and after a few drinks, he would dance with his sword in high spirits. Just thinking about it made him feel very comfortable.

No longer would I have to follow that young lady around, being subject to wild speculations from my subordinates. From now on, we'll go our separate ways.

Suddenly, another person leaped in from outside the wall below and headed straight for the window of the small dormitory.

This thief had accomplices? Mu Zitao and his men were somewhat surprised. They had been careless and hadn't noticed.

However, what happened next surprised them even more.

The one who came later raised his hand—a whip? Yes, a whip, and lashed it out at the person outside the small dormitory window with a gust of wind.

The person who was blowing incense towards the window reacted, but it was too late to dodge. He was slapped squarely on the back, hissing in pain, but he couldn't make a sound.

"Who goes there, ruining my good time?" the black-clad thief muttered under his breath.

While cursing, he pulled something out of his pocket and threw it at the other person. Then, taking advantage of the other person's dodge, he quickly leaped to the side and disappeared over the wall.

Before chasing after him, the man wielding the whip glanced at where Mu Zitao was before leaping over the wall.

"Should we give chase?" Baqian asked his companion in a low voice.

"Why chase after him? That thief knew he couldn't win, that's why he ran away," Sanjin replied, glancing towards his master.

Jiao Tu also looked in that direction, and could vaguely see his master's figure: "So what should we do next?"

Yes, the thieves came and went, they escaped, they certainly won't come back to finish what they were doing. So, it seems unnecessary for them to continue guarding this place, right?

"What are you still asking? Let's get out of here." Song You, who hadn't spoken until now, had no choice but to remind his companions.

"Withdraw? But our master is still here." Baqianyou was in a dilemma.

Song You didn't bother to respond anymore, so he jumped off the roof and went back to his room.

A bunch of blockheads! Don't they realize their master's plans have fallen through again? Heaven knows how bad his mood is right now. Does he need company? Of course not, he probably just hopes no one saw what just happened!

Of course, it wouldn't be murder to silence him, but everyone will definitely see a gloomy face tomorrow morning!

Song You was the smartest of the group. Seeing how decisively he left, the others belatedly realized what was going on and quickly jumped off the roof and returned to their rooms.

At this moment, Mu Zitao was so frustrated he felt like vomiting blood. Such a perfect plan had fallen through again.

Actually, the thief's insult was quite right: "Who do you think you are, ruining my good deed!"

With me here guarding the place, that thief will ultimately fail. Why would you need to intervene and help him out?

The next morning, Hong Xiaoduo also woke up early. Tian Shu and Tian Quan were the first to get up, as they went to the stable to feed the donkeys the fodder they had bought the night before.

Yuheng helped Yaoguang put on her clothes and hat.

Hong Xiaoduo helped her fold the bedding. Actually, it didn't matter if they didn't, as the inn didn't require it. But it was a good thing that the children were diligent and self-disciplined, so why should she stop them?

After getting ready and washing up, we had breakfast at a steamed bun shop not far from the inn.

After finishing their meal, they returned to the inn, paid for their room, and stood outside waiting for Tian Shu to arrive with his donkey cart.

The innkeeper came out and told Hong Xiaoduo that she should stay at the inn again next time she passed through Willow Town.

Hong Xiaoduo smiled and agreed, then suddenly remembered something: "Shopkeeper, there's a small hole in the paper window of our room. Please have someone fix it quickly, as the weather is getting colder and drafty is not good."

"Alright, thank you for reminding me, young lady," the shopkeeper said with a smile.

Mu Zitao and his group happened to come out as well, and overheard the whole thing. Looking at the young lady who had kindly reminded the shopkeeper, they were truly speechless.

What incredible luck! I was almost sexually assaulted and robbed at night, and I was completely unaware of it!

"Young lady, did you rest well last night?" Jiao Tu asked slyly.

Hong Xiaoduo automatically ignored the narcissistic guy at the front and smiled, nodding to Jiao Tu: "Yeah, I slept pretty well." Then, as if remembering something, she asked, "Didn't you get enough rest?"

Otherwise, why would I ask myself that question?

"Of course it's good," Jiao Tu replied against his will.

Tian Shu led the carriage over, Hong Xiaoduo carried Yao Guang into the carriage, turned around and waved to Jiao Tu, and then got into the carriage herself.

Jiao Tu waved back, feeling quite pleased. He thought the young lady was really nice, poised and unpretentious. But when he turned around after putting his hand down, he met his master's cold gaze and was startled.

No, he didn't say anything he shouldn't have just said. He held back and didn't say anything. Since we're going the same way, why don't we travel together?

"Hey, Brother Liu, what are you rushing off to?" the shopkeeper asked curiously, noticing the people hurrying along the roadside.

The man called Brother Liu stopped and said, "Haven't you heard? At dawn, Old Man Xu, who was on night watch, saw a man hanging from the locust tree outside the town. There was a sign on his body that said something like 'Those who do many evil deeds will surely perish.'"

People who've been there say it's a new face, probably not from our town. I'm going to check it out too. Want to come along?

The innkeeper understood and waved his hands repeatedly, saying, "It's not a good thing, I'm not going to join in the fun."
