"I have heard that you are very capable, young lady. However, as the steward of the Jiang family, I also have the responsibility to help the master family screen the guests. Otherwise, if we let anyone in, wouldn't that just cause our master unnecessary trouble?"
"Young lady, if you insist on forcing your way in because of your martial arts skills, then even if I can't stop you, I will risk my life to stop you. I also ask the villagers passing by to bear witness for me. I must remind you, young lady, don't let this end up in the yamen. It will be too late to regret it then." Manager Wu said righteously and sternly to Hong Xiaoduo and the people watching outside the courtyard gate.
Pfft, Hong Xiaoduo couldn't help but burst out laughing.
The other party was betting that she was a passerby from out of town and wouldn't dare to make a big fuss. He also felt that Master Jiang trusted him and that even if he knew what was happening here, Master Jiang would remember that he had served in the mansion for many years and had worked hard, so he wouldn't do anything to him!
Hong Xiaoduo noticed the onlookers, but she didn't care and wasn't afraid of things getting out of control.
"Manager Wu, where do you get your confidence that you can scare me? Do I look like someone who can be easily frightened?" Hong Xiaoduo looked into the other person's eyes, smiling as she spoke, and then stepped up the stairs with her hands behind her back.
The onlookers didn't really know what was going on. Basically, a young woman wanted to enter the Jiang residence to see Master Jiang, but the steward wouldn't let her in.
Originally, I was just stopping to watch the excitement, but now I'm quite curious: who exactly is this young lady? What's her relationship with Master Jiang? And why does she insist on going in?
Why wouldn't the steward of the Jiang family let her in? Looking at this young lady's face, she is clean and doesn't seem like a disreputable or ill-intentioned woman.
Looking at her attire, although it was simple, the fabric of her robes was certainly not cheap.
Watching the young woman steadily approach him step by step, Manager Wu thought to himself, "I haven't managed to intimidate her. What should I do?" Well, he thought, "I'll just risk my life to stop her today. At most, I'll get hurt. No matter how arrogant this woman is, I doubt she'll dare to kill anyone."
Having worked in the household for many years, I have certainly put in the effort, even if I haven't achieved anything great. No matter how much Master Jiang values this young lady, he wouldn't make things difficult for me over a mere passerby, would he?
Furthermore, since this young lady came to our mansion last time, she hasn't come again in the past ten days or so. I ordered someone to keep an eye on her, and they said they hadn't seen her leave the house for several days in a row. I thought that Madam Pang and I were overthinking things, so I withdrew the person. But why did this lady suddenly come again today?
Just now, because he was worried that calling the servants would make too much noise and disturb the master, the people standing at the gate now are just him, the gatekeeper, and an old servant who does odd jobs inside the gate.
If you really want to stop this young woman, how could you possibly stop her?
Manager Wu was mentally prepared to suffer some physical pain, but Hong Xiaoduo was a little hesitant. Should she kick this guy into the Jiang residence or kick him outside?
"Xiaoduo, is it really you?" At the critical moment, a joyful voice came from inside.
But Jiang An came running over quickly, his face beaming with joy.
When Manager Wu heard the voice behind him, his heart sank and he turned around to see that the person behind the master was the gatekeeper who had been about to go in to announce his arrival.
This troublemaker actually went in and announced it without permission. Manager Wu gave the servant a deep look. Good, very good! He'd deal with him later. He'd teach him a lesson and then make him have an accident.
When the servant met the manager's gaze, he immediately lowered his head in a fluster.
"Master Jiang, did you come all this way to greet me?" Hong Xiaoduo replied with a smile. She had also seen the servant; she hadn't really noticed his actions earlier. Not bad!
So what if Steward Wu has worked at the Jiang residence for many years? He still hasn't been able to control all the people working under him.
“Yes, I’ve been waiting for your invitation since you left last time, but I haven’t heard anything. I was too embarrassed to send someone to ask. If you don’t come today, I was planning to come over in a few days to ask you for a drink.” Jiang An was inexplicably happy to see this young friend and said with a smile.
Upon hearing this, Hong Xiaoduo didn't mention that she had gone out, nor did she use the excuse of going into seclusion to practice her skills that she had prepared beforehand. Instead, she smiled and nodded, saying, "Hahaha, in this respect, I am better than you, Master Jiang. Look at me, I wanted to come to your residence for tea, so I came right away. I don't care about being embarrassed or not."
"Yes, I like your straightforward personality, Xiaoduo. Come on, let's go have some tea. The kitchen has been making some pretty good pastries lately, you should try them." Jiang An called to Hong Xiaoduo as they walked back.
After walking a few steps, Hong Xiaoduo turned her head to look behind her, and Manager Wu was following behind with a stern face.
Just follow along, so this guy won't make things difficult for that servant.
After I finish speaking to Master Jiang about the important matter, Steward Wu should have no chance to make things difficult for that servant.
Of course, this is all predicated on Mr. Chiang believing in himself.
In fact, when she decided to get involved in this matter, Hong Xiaoduo was mentally prepared. She had done everything she could. If Master Jiang didn't believe her, then let him continue to be a great traitor!
As for making this trip right before the New Year, it wasn't a complete waste of time; at least the truth was uncovered.
"Master Jiang, the weather is nice today. Would you like to take me for a stroll in your garden?" Hong Xiaoduo suggested casually.
Of course, no one else can be present when I tell him what I'm going to say later.
Hmm? Jiang An recalled that when she last came to his residence, he had told her that there was nothing to see in the garden at this time of year.
Now she's suggesting we go for a walk? Is there something she doesn't want others to hear? Jiang An thought about it for a moment and figured that was probably it.
