Chapter 61 Adopt one

Why were the children all looking at her? Because they remembered her careful instructions: this matter should not be told to anyone else, as it would implicate her kind-hearted Uncle Yuefan and could potentially land her in jail.

"That problem has been solved. We're all in this business, we need to have some skills, right? Otherwise, how would we dare to come out here?" Hong Xiaoduo replied with a smile.

This explanation is vague, but it has already given the other party a hint, and the problem has been solved. People who travel the world have certain methods. As for these keywords, let Lord Wei understand and experience them for himself.

She didn't feel she shouldn't lie, especially knowing the other person was a good person, but she just couldn't tell the truth.

It's not that I don't trust Lord Wei; this matter is no small thing, and it's not a matter of trust or distrust.

She couldn't betray Brother Dong just because she trusted him; that was her bottom line.

Besides, they are all intelligent people, so even if Lord Wei doesn't believe it, he won't ask any further questions.

"Uncle, I heard you're an official. If I say this, you won't arrest me for questioning, will you?" Hong Xiaoduo joked again.

Lord Wei laughed after hearing this: "Am I a pedantic person in your eyes? Besides, they are innocent children, not evil people."

"Of course not, otherwise they wouldn't have brought us here to stay." After Hong Xiaoduo finished speaking, she saw that Yao Guang was gnawing on a rib but staring at the plate of braised lion's head meatballs, so she got up, used her chopsticks to pick up two meatballs and gave one to Kaiyang and one to Yao Guang.

“Take what you can, and if you can’t, stand up and take it. Your father is worried that you’ll be too shy to eat, so there’s no one else in the room.” Hong Xiaoduo said when she saw the other children looking at the braised lion’s head.

Hearing her say that, the other children also got up to pick up the braised lion's head meatballs. The meatballs were round and big and difficult to pick up, so they simply followed her example and used chopsticks to poke one back.

"Is that young lady taking them home?" Lord Wei thought to himself, "Today I won't play the proper gentleman. I'll just ask if I want to. There's no one of my own in this house anyway."

Hong Xiaoduo shook her head: "I'm the same as them, I have no home."

How could this be? This answer immediately made Lord Wei, who had been in a good mood, feel heavy-hearted.

Looking into Hong Xiaoduo's eyes, one could see a hint of pity from an elder. The guard even said that at such a young age, she was not at home doing needlework and embroidery. Who would want to wander alone outside when they have a home?

"Then your constant wandering outside isn't a long-term solution. After all, they're all so young, and you're a young lady," Lord Wei said, looking somewhat worried.

Hong Xiaoduo replied, "Uncle, what you said makes sense. But for now, let's just wander around like this. There's a whole world out there, and there's bound to be a place for us to stay."

Lord Wei nodded, deeply admiring the young girl's magnanimous spirit despite her young age!

He wanted to say something, but after thinking about it, he didn't say anything. He picked up his wine cup and drank it all in one gulp.

During the first half of the meal, Lord Wei chatted with Hong Xiaoduo, but he didn't talk much in the second half, only occasionally putting food on the plates of the two children next to him.

Hong Xiaoduo also focused on eating; this dish was even better than the food at Juxianlou Restaurant in Mopan Town.

After finishing her meal, Hong Xiaoduo realized she hadn't asked Lord Wei when they would be setting off. If he wasn't leaving today, she would have to take the children and leave first.

Although the inn offers free food and lodging, one shouldn't try to stay there for free.

“It wouldn’t be good to set off right after lunch. Why don’t you sit down and have a pot of tea with me, young lady?” Lord Wei spoke first.

Hong Xiaoduo didn't refuse. It wouldn't take long, just the time it takes to brew a pot of tea, so she nodded in agreement.

Lord Wei led her to his study in his guest room and ordered someone to brew a pot of tea.

The guard thought to himself, "Didn't the master say we'd set off after lunch? Why are we having tea now?"

"Take them to digest their food." Seeing the children follow him in, Lord Wei hurriedly called to the guards and gave them instructions.

Tian Shu didn't want to leave. Hong Xiaoduo looked at Lord Wei and guessed that he had something to say to her that he didn't want the children to hear.

"Go check if we've left anything behind," Hong Xiaoduo said to Tian Shu.

She spoke up, and Tian Shu had no choice but to agree and walk out.

Stepping outside, Tian Shu took a few steps toward the stables, then turned around to see that no one was paying attention to him before changing direction.

Inside the house, Hong Xiaoduo wanted to pick up the teapot and pour tea for the other person, even though she was a guest, the other person was an elder.

Unexpectedly, Lord Wei was faster than her, picking up the teapot first and pouring her tea.

He had drunk a cup of tea, but he didn't say anything.

“Uncle, please feel free to speak your mind,” Hong Xiaoduo said directly.

She sensed that what the other person was about to say might be related to the seven children, otherwise they wouldn't have asked the guards to take them to digest their food.

But she couldn't be sure what it meant exactly.

"I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Wei Junpei, courtesy name Yaxuan, and I serve as the Minister of Personnel in this court." Wei Junpei paused and looked at the person sitting opposite him.

Hong Xiaoduo nodded, waiting for him to continue.

Wei Junpei was taken aback. The reason he stopped was because he was afraid of startling the child and wanted her to digest the information first.

As a result, she remained so calm. Did she not know how high the rank of the Minister was? Or did someone she knew actually hold such a high position?

"Are you familiar with my official position?" Wei Junpei asked.

Hong Xiaoduo thought to herself, "Are you testing my historical knowledge?" "I know a little bit, but not in great detail."

"Oh, then tell me." Wei Junpei was eager to hear what this homeless girl could say.
