Chapter 68 I really got into it

"It wasn't me, he wanted to drink it himself." Meeting Fan Wu's gaze, Hong Xiaoduo waved her hands repeatedly and pointed at Fan Wu to explain.

At that moment, she felt a sense of pressure when facing her friend's parents, as if she had invited them out to play, only to have them get their clothes dirty or cause trouble.

As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized that it was rather disloyal.

However, she didn't know that her tone and actions were considered cute by others.

"Thank you for bringing him back, young lady." Murong Jing realized that he might have frightened her just now, so he quickly thanked her with a smile.

"Of course, Brother Fan, we're going back now. If you're feeling unwell, have some warm tea." Hong Xiaoduo said goodbye to Fan Wu and was about to leave with the children.

Brother Fan? Upon hearing this address, Murong Jing and several of his subordinates simultaneously looked at the person who was drinking happily.

"I'll take you back," Fan Wu said as he started to walk out.

Huh? When Hong Xiaoduo heard that he was going to take us back, she quickly looked to Murong Jing for help, thinking to herself, if he takes us back, we will definitely have to take him back if we are worried. This back and forth is going on and on without end.

Murong Jing suppressed a laugh and scolded Fan Wu in a low voice, "You reek of alcohol, what are you doing taking them? Yuanxi, you take them back to the inn." Just as he finished speaking, seeing that Fan Wu was about to speak, he said to another person, "Haidong, you go and take them too. Make sure to get the young lady and the others back to the inn safely."

"Yes, Your subordinate obeys." The two men, suppressing their excitement, loudly replied when they heard their names called.

"No need for them, my subordinates aren't drunk, I can deliver it myself." Fan Wu didn't notice the excitement in his two good brothers' hearts, simply thinking that he should deliver it himself, after all, Little Duo wasn't familiar with them.

Murong Jing gave him a look: "You stay here, I have something for you to do."

Upon hearing that something was up, Fan Wu hesitated. The task his master had entrusted to him was important, but his sister and children were equally important.

“Brother Fan, serious matters are important, and you know I’m not some weakling who needs protection. If anyone tries to provoke me, you know what will happen to them,” Hong Xiaoduo quickly advised.

Fan Wu realized that this was indeed the case. If she didn't have some skills, how could she have brought seven children to this place safely? Moreover, it seemed that she and the children were getting better and better.

Even so, he still instructed his two good brothers to make sure they delivered the person to the destination and not to be lazy and turn back halfway.

Murong Jing thought to himself, "Do you even need to say that? You've got it backwards. You should have said, 'Deliver the person and come back immediately without lingering!'"

"Goodbye, Uncle Wu." As Hong Xiaoduo and her group turned to leave, the seven children waved goodbye to Fan Wu in unison.

Holy crap, Uncle? Fan Wu just picked up seven nephews and nieces all at once?

Although they were all bald, they were all so handsome with delicate features.

Everyone looked on with envy. Those who had become uncles were still envious of the seven of them. They weren't related by blood, yet they were so close! Unlike their own sister's little rascal, who only knew how to call him "uncle" and ask for money whenever he saw him. If he gave him money, he would cry if he didn't.

"Yes, my uncle will come to take you there first thing tomorrow morning," Fan Wu replied proudly.

He'd been standing there for quite a while, and Murong Jing felt a pang of heartache. Although they were master and servant to outsiders, he'd treated him well, and they'd been through so much together—they were practically brothers in arms. But now, he was less important than a young woman and a few children he'd just met!

Was it because I was such a failure as a person? Murong Jing couldn't help but wonder.

"Master? Isn't something wrong?" Fan Wu, who had just come to his senses, turned around and saw his master looking lost in thought, so he asked.

"Come in and let's talk," Murong Jing said as he walked towards the guest room.

He didn't need to bother making up excuses to appease his drunken subordinate; he had too many things to do, so he could just pick one at random.

At the break of dawn, Murong Jing opened the door and went into the courtyard to wait for the inn to send water for washing.

"Is he back?" he asked his subordinate Hai Dong.

"Reporting to Master, he returned to his room a quarter of an hour ago and should have sat on the roof of that inn all night. It seems he's really taken to her and doesn't want her to leave. Perhaps you could help him by asking the young lady what she thinks?"

"It's rare that he's taken a liking to me; it would be a real shame to miss this opportunity," the subordinate sighed.

Murong Jing shook his head upon hearing this: "You've spent quite a bit of time together, yet you still don't understand him well enough. Besides, you should know that there are two other words: appreciation and affinity."

The subordinate disagreed: "Appreciation and affinity—aren't those used to describe people of the same sex? Between men and women, there's no such thing as appreciation or affinity. There's only admiration and fate."

He didn't believe it, and Murong Jing didn't argue with his subordinate. In any case, based on his observation, there was no romantic relationship between Fan Wu and that young woman, at least not yet.

Fan Wu had been with him for many years and he knew Fan Wu's personality very well. Although he didn't know the young woman well, Murong Jing was certain that she was also a straightforward and honest woman.

Suddenly, I remembered how she hurriedly explained when I told her he had been drinking last night after I brought Fan Wu back. It was really quite cute.

"Wait a moment." After saying this, Murong Jing turned around and went back to his room. When he came out again a short while later, he handed a letter to his subordinate to deliver to the young lady.

The subordinate paused for a moment, guessing that the letter was related to Fan Wu, but did not dare to ask and quickly went to ask.

Last night, Fan Wu said he would go to see her off today, which meant that the young lady and her children would be leaving this place today.
